Good tripod, little finicky to adjust

This is a fairly sturdy tripod, but don't expect it to hold more than a point and shoot or GoPro type camera. The legs are fairly adjustable, but stiff. I guess that is good, so it does not move after you have set it up, but it does make adjusting it a bit of a chore. The picture shows it set up as a conventional tri-pod, but it may be difficult to adjust it to this type of setup. It is best suited for uneven surfaces, or if you plan to wrap it around a tree or pole. Overall, it does what I bought it for, and is a useful additional camera stabilization tool, but you have to work with it's limitation. Only time will tell if the stiffness of the legs will hold up to constant bending. So far, I have not had any problems with the legs becoming loose.

Great Tripod, Camera Mounts Need Work

This is a great little tripod. It can grip onto almost anything and is able to be quickly adjusted to fit a wide range of locations. I would have preferred the legs to be slightly longer, but I've been able to make it work in every situation I've encountered so far. I dislike the 2 mounts. The standard tripod screw requires a coin to tighten or loosen which means one more 'tool' in your camera bag, and lots of extra time compared to a hand screw. On the other hand, the GoPro adapter doesn't make a good connection with the GoPro case. Even with the screw as tight as I'm able to tighten it, I can still rotate the GoPro around the mount pivot. MUST-HAVE adjustable tripod for GoPro cameras!

I secured it to the back of the bus driver's seat during Shore Adventures, propped it up in the wave pool on the Disney Wonder and it never moved, no matter how bad the wave (the wave pool moves according to the back and forth motion of the ship so, you never know what type of wave you will get!). I wrapped it around ship railings and everything I could get my hands on, to film raw footage. When someone stood in front of me that blocked my view, did I care? No, I wrapped my camera up to a post that was taller than him! This item works great as a hand-held too (like a selfie stick) and there is really no need to carry anything else, in my opinion. I never found the need to carry any other tripod or any other peripheral with me for my GoPro Hero4 Session while on my Cabo vacation. This Joby is a MUST HAVE, and I cannot say it enough! I took photos of it while it was attached to my veranda door handle and everything else and posted to FB like this, "My GoPro Jobbied to the veranda door, etc." Yup, I have created a new term: "Jobbied." Joby is now always in my back pocket. YOU WON'T BE SORRY FOR MAKING THIS PURCHASE!

My new favorite for travel photography
4 July 2017

This is a new permanent addition to my vacation packing list. I've been a photographer for more than 35 years and have a wide range from the original Joby for point-and-shoot cameras up to full sized video and photo tripods. But on my last 2-week vacation trip I took three cameras (GoPro, a Canon mirrorless, and my Pixel smartphone) and ended up barely using the mirrorless and using the smartphone many times a day. It was great indoors, a nice grip outdoors, worked well at night, and was light enough that it was always with me for the two weeks and I used it multiple times a day, especially for video. I brought another ultralightweight (1.8 lb) tripod with me but used it once on the trip. The item I have is solid--there is no slipping of the quick release, or ball head. The fluid level is a nice feature that I used more than I was expecting--I find it's more important for video. I bought a third party smartphone clamp for less than $10 and left that on the whole time. The tripod ought to work with my DSLR too but I rarely take it on trips now. I like having the flexibility of using this with my GoPro too--the included quick release plate for it is nice because it also has a standard 1/4-20 set of threads so you can put it on a regular tripod or screw it onto the camera (red) plate without switching the GoPro base. Neat!Another small perk is that it makes for a nice stand to watch videos. I shot video with my camera and the Joby and it was a good way to watch the product without having to hold the camera and to also share the view with another person. My original GorillaPod (10+ years old) still works but developed a small crack one one of the top-most joints. I suggest using care in not over-extending that joint because it's the one that is likely to crack first. I bought this to augment the small model was too low, didn't have GoPro compatibility, and was not sturdy enough to handle a weighty mirrorless.Only downside to lightweight tripods is that they can be top-heavy and a bit jiggly, but I will gladly pay that price when I am traveling.

Works just as well with the dji Osmos
9 January 2022

Got this product while on promotion and to be used for a specific purpose. I needed to shoot video of a holiday HO train set up. This little tripod was used on the ground to shoot the passing of trains. It also helped stabilize the Osmos in an empty coal car so I could capture video from a passenger's perspective. The little tripod's legs have a nice amount of friction, so it's able to accept positioning without shifting around. The head attachment is the perfect size for the legs and able to hold an action cam without issue. You get a GoPro/Osmos mount and a standard thread to mount a light weight camera if needed. Well worth the price paid.

[Rewarded Review] Great Product - Durable, Versatile, and Quality!
30 January 2017

I was looking for a small tripod for my eight-year-old daughter to use with her webcam and IPad for shooting YouTube videos. The other tripods available were more traditional, with long, straight extendable legs, which I didn't think were ideal for her purpose. This one looked more versatile and I took a chance on it. It is perfect! She can use it on a table top in a more traditional format (it has a bubble level built in), or attach it to just about anything to get just the angle she wants for shooting video. The legs bend in any direction and can wrap around nearly anything for a steady shot without fear of falling. It is extremely well-made and durable and appears to be something she'll be using for years to come. Definitely the right choice if you are looking for more adverse uses than you would get from a traditional straight legged tripod. Not the right choice if you need to set up a tripod for say, a family photo using the camera's timer, where you might need to achieve a certain height, but perfect for just about everything else.

I bought this thinking that I would be able to start my Vlogs on YouTube. the legs were real stiff as you might imagine they would be when you 1st buy it. I used this about 4 times and after I get done I always put the legs back down so I can carry it and shoot my Vlog on the move. All 3 of the legs can and will pop out of the very 1st joint up by the mount when you put all the legs together and try to carry it that way. After it did this 3 times and I snapped the leg back in place, a crack developed and the leg was no longer tight and it was not able to hold the weight of my Cannon G7X point and shoot camera anymore. Upon closer inspection you can see the seam where the plastic (Hip joint I call it) was formed and it cracked on that seam. If you buy it and mount your camera and just leave it alone and don't bend the legs, it will probably work well, but for what I do it was just a waste of 40 bucks.

i bought this specifically for my GoPro Hero4. it comes with a GoPro mount and doesn't require the GoPro-to-tripod adapter mount. And while it certainly does what it is supposed to do, I like the GorillaPod SLR-Zoom better, even for the GoPro and even if it requires the adapter plate. the SLR-Zoom is a bit larger and heavier and the ballhead is a lot better and articulates fully in all directions. On the GorillaPod with GoPro mount (the one I'm reviewing here), the ballhead movement is somewhat restricted and only tilts fully when aligned with the slot in the head. Sure, the whole tripod can be moved around to compensate for that. But the 'SLR Zoom' head does it a lot better.
