The Mind Expander is an alternative all-mountain board that wants to slash every terrain feature in sight. Surf shaper Chris Christenson and Jeremy Jones designed the Mind Expander for the creative rider who draws lines blending freestyle, freeride and surf styles. The blunted nose, full size tail, tight sidecut, and 3D Contour Base 3.0 offer the nimble maneuverability of a directional board matched with the all-mountain performance of a directional twin. New for 22/23, the Mind Expander now features a Surf Camber profile for better edge hold in variable conditions and the stance was moved forward 20mm for improved carving performance. To keep the playful board feel, the Bamboo Surf Core has V-core profiling that gives the board a softer flex between the feet for easy turn initiation and a stiffer flex in the tips so you won’t fold the nose. The Mind Expander is also built with Basalt Power Stringers for edge response, Rounded Recycled ABS Sidewalls for topsheet durability, and a super fast Sintered 8000 base.

The Ultra Mind Expander does just what the name says. It expands the way you think about boarding. I was able to do more than ever before because of its performance. You could point the nose down the mountain and bomb everything(as long as you could hold on) or carve it up. It was nimble in the trees and great on the traverses when you have to take them. I was nervous about spending this kind of change on something I only get to do 6-10 days a year but I couldn't be happier. I did buy the 158 because I was uncertain about the reviews that said you should get one size smaller. The only thing I might do different is get the 154 but that is really splitting hairs. MAYBE it would be a little more nimble but I'm sure there would be some other trade off. I really liked ... MoreThe Ultra Mind Expander does just what the name says. This board has more to offer than I could get out of it I'm sure. Highly Recommend!!

Amazing board from what I've done in Spring of 2020. Did about 4-5 bootpacks while carrying it before I had a complete tune on it. If you are light with big feet and tall (10.5 Mens US, 6' tall, 145lbs) you may need to look at other less stiff boards.I had issues before I got used to the size and flex, but downsize when possible. I bought the 158, but wish that I could've bought a smaller one. Very strong, stable and fast board, but it is less nimble in slushy and wet snow.

Bought this prior to leaving for a heli trip in BC and man was it worth it! I've been riding a regular Mind Expander for the past two seasons and it was the most fun board I'd ever been on....until I took this up to the high alpine/glacier terrain in Revelstoke. We were doing big group helis (11 guests and a guide) and in the high alpine/glacier terrain I found myself waiting.... and waiting.... and waiting to drop lines because I'd catch the rest of the group (and the guide) so quickly with this thing! I literally felt like I was getting shot out of a cannon. Floats really well in pow, snappy turns when you want them, slashy turns when you want those. I got exactly what I was hoping for out of this which was the perfect blend between the playfulness/fun you get ... MoreBought this prior to leaving for a heli trip in BC and man was it worth it! I'm only assuming it'll be even more fun once it's fully broken in and softens up just a little bit. If you like a stiffer/faster ride and only have one board for the quiver I'd go this route. Want something a little softer, you can't go wrong with the regular mind expander.

I am a very experienced snowboarder who has been riding for almost 30 years. I would call myself an "all mountain" rider. I used to spend about half of my time in the park but in the past few years I have been leaning a little more towards riding natural terrain features and looking for powder. I still ride just about anything depending on the day/conditions. I'm 5'9" tall and weigh about 155 lbs. My first day on the Jones Mind Expander was perfect for really putting the board to the test because we had some fast groomed runs earlier in the day then hiked to some deep powder in the afternoon. I am usually a bit hesitant about full rocker snowboards. My first day on the Jones Mind Expander was perfect for really putting the board to the test because we had some fast groomed runs earlier in the day then hiked to some deep powder in the afternoon. I am usually a bit hesitant about full rocker snowboards. In the past I have tried boards with a lot of rocker that floated great while turning in deep snow but were a little hard to stomp jumps and drops on because the rocker made me wheelie out of landings. I've also experienced full rocker boards that did not hold an edge well when carving on firmer snow. The Mind Expander quickly squashed those notions. Mt Bachelor is a mountain that requires quite a bit of traversing to get where you want to go. I was impressed by how well this board turned on the fast groomers and held it's edge while I traversed across a pretty icy and wind scoured face. Once I got to the goods the board really lit up. I dropped into a few different wind loaded bowls full of deep/light snow and the board charged through it. Floatation was great and I had no problems putting down the landing gear after jumping off of windlips. The Mind Expander is one of the better boards I have ridden for powder but will still keep you smiling on the firmer snow inbetween pow stashes.
I've ridden this board on a deep pow day at Squaw, on hard pack at Kirkwood, and pow at Kirkwood. I was coming from the Hovercraft, which is a very different board, so it took me half the day to dial in my approach to the board. Then it clicked. It is fun to ride on any condition of snow. It is literally meant to surf. You can slash anything. It doesn't hold an edge as aggressively as a traditional camber board - obviously - but once you get the hang of it, you can rail this thing just as fast. I also found it confidence inspiring for going off natural terrain features. I am more of a side-country powder hound and never got into popping off of things, but this board is like a magical landing gear and gave me a lot of confidence in catching air as much as possible. ... MoreI've ridden this board on a deep pow day at Squaw, on hard pack at Kirkwood, and pow at Kirkwood. It truly is a magic carpet. I am 6' 2" 205 lbs and I got the 158 (2018 model) and it's perfect.
This board is amazing in powder. I've paired it with a pair of Union Stratas and the quality together is fantastic. On powder it provides a very surfy feel and is super great in the trees. Surprisingly, this board is pretty awesome on the rest of the mountain as well. Great board.
Im 5'11" 190 lbs and rode this board on a good pow day. This board was awesome in pow, it floated, was nimble and carved groomers like a champ. I think adding the camber makes this board do so much better in icy or harder conditions. The normal mind expander can feel like a saucer on hard condition but this one felt stable. If you need a one board quiver that leaned toward softer day or you want a pow board that can handle anything get this board. Its not just for perfect pow days. It will hand the mediocre and bad too.
I'm 5'8, 150 lbs and am a confident snowboarder who loves groomers but also enjoys fast, steep, powder runs. I had only ever ridden hybrid boards so this was the first time I had tried a rocker profile. I can't speak highly enough of this board, it blew my mind. It almost felt like it was turning for me, it is so so surfy and playful. It is super nimble and easy to get creative on. It handles really well in powder as well as on groomers.
Using kids board as a snowskate skid. W/ rocker trucks (glams) this skid is pretty dope. Not as quick edge to edge as your normal skid but the glams help. Nice wide platform that floats w/ ease in the light fluffy stuff. Turning takes some rider "adjustments." Does not float as well in heavy wet snow.
Maybe it was because it was a size up, or I was mentally comparing this with the non-cambered version I've ridden in past, but this board didn't give me quite what I wanted. With the addition of the camber it became a lot more versatile, but lost a bit of the magic I'd known before. It did love to be on edge, but that big nose really grabbed quickly and took control.
