I just asked my wife what I should mention in this review, and she smilingly stated that the E8 has been life altering for me. Prior to my purchase I had read reviews, and even looked at the user instructions. I recommend carefully reading the instructions, to ensure that the E8 will be a joy to own and easy to operate. Most importantly, the coffees are absolutely delicious! I love being able to fine-tune (program) each coffee to my taste, and have a little cheat sheet to remember exactly what settings I saved for each specific choice. I wish that the E8 could make hot milk, rather than just the milk foam, but I did realize this prior to my purchase, and do not view this as a big deal. We wanted to step up our home espresso machine to something top of the line, and I landed on Jura after a lot of research & consideration comparing models and brands. We landed on the E8 and it has literally changed my life. No joke- when I say I look forward to waking up in the morning so I can have my flat white and afternoon cappuccino - I mean it. We went back and forth between the S8 and finally decided on the E8. While the S8 has a touch screen, only the E8 will do a double espresso with 2separate grinds AND do a proper Americano. Reviews of the S8 also point out the touch screen tricky in that you have to make a few choices while the drink is in progress, the E8 uses a tactile button.I would also suggest on rushing out and purchase the most expensive (not oily) beans you can find, that ended up being the worst, with a bitter and sour espresso result. We found all Peets medium roast and Juras 6 and 8 Bean Blend (available on their website) works best. If the result is bitter, increase the grind size (most course) + water size while lowering the puck size (amount of coffee used), it will end up a little ... MoreWe went back and forth between the S8 and finally decided on the E8. Granted, there are some worthwhile improvements on the new E8 - but it is a net loss vs. a net win for this upgraded model at the price tag listed.

So since then on occasion instead of getting the nice foam for my cappuccino it spits out some milk and steam for part of the process so I have to extend the foam time on the fly to get the taste the same. With the inconvenience of unannounced cleanings which cannot be circumvented and the marketing that claims you save money by using their machine instead of going to lets say Starbucks really has to be questioned! For most of the 18 years I had my Saeco I was able to service it until of course I couldn't get parts anymore but this one is just a pretty box that they want you to put beans and water in and press a few buttons and that's it. I paid a high price for a machine from a Swiss company that was manufactured in Portugal and as with many Euro companies you're just the user and you don't need to know anything about what's inside the box. So in the end I own this thing and use it because I really have no other choice but I probably would not buy this a second time. For the 10 days my machine was gone for repairs the drip coffee we drank wasn't really that bad!!

Knowing in advance how easily scratched the drip tray stainless piece was I tried very hard to treat it carefully, but by the end of week one it was already scratched up. I am concerned with how long these pieces will last and I don’t see any of these listed as replaceable parts on the site. I had my last machine for about 10 years and quite honestly at this price I am hoping to get much more time out of my Jura E8. Another concerning thing is the number of drinks option keeps flipping randomly from 4 drinks to 2. Sometimes I get an alert that the coffee grounds container needs emptying when there is only one biscuit in there, but I usually just move the biscuit around inside the container until the event clears or sometimes, I’ve taken a piece of paper towel and wiped inside the cavity where the drink tray slides in.With that said… I do love having a fully automatic espresso maker. I went with the black instead of the stainless-steel version because that one looked mirrored which is not something I am into. The piano black is very sleek looking. With so many drink options available my biggest dilemma was figuring out what my new morning coffee routine was going to be. Every drink I have tried so far has been delicious and I have no need to go outside the house for coffee anymore. It is great having a variate of drink options right at my fingertips and I no longer worry about whether my coffee is going to be drinkable. I was shocked that they recommended cleaning the milk frother after every use. I thought it was going to be this complicated process but honestly the biggest problem I had was getting the cleaning tablets bottle opened for the first time. It is very easy to setup and you pretty much just let the machine do the work.

This is the best coffeemaker that we've had, and we have a full arsenal - Chemex, French press, burr grinders, etc. This machine has a coffee hopper and burr grinder built in. It can also dispense hot water and milk foam. It can also dispense hot water and milk foam.
