Eight months of use and I highly recommend

I purchased the Jura S8 and have found it to make consistent, café quality drinks. Certainly as good as Starbucks IMO though of course not as good as a high-end specialty café. I make flat whites daily and cleaning the milk system is important. It takes about two minutes and once you get the hang of it it’s not a big deal. Probably on par with cleaning out a drip coffee machine. The cleaning supplies are reasonably priced and a rounding error when one considers the cost of the machine and beans. Do the math, and if you regularly buy coffee out or even make Nespresso drinks the cost of this machine will likely pay off over time. If I had any gripes, it would be for a slightly larger water reservoir and bean hopper. I realize that would be a trade-off for countertop space but it would be nice to go three days without having to fill or empty something. Overall though, I am very happy the S8 and would highly recommend it.

I should have gotten this machine a long time ago instead of worrying over the price. Compared to buying single use pods, this machine will pay for itself way before it's life expectancy ends. Also, My refurbished machine only had a couple of uses ahead of us and it was well packaged so it felt like a new machine. All the drink options come out perfect. My favorite point is that you can make varying strengths of espresso or coffe and also save the style you like. I have an espresso named for my preference and one named for my husband. The milk frother does well with non-dairy milks too. I have nothing bad to say about the jura S8. No more pods to F-up the environment and superior coffee brewing. Now that i have it, i see that it is SO worth what i paid.

Milk foam generation is fantastic. Coffee is great. This is why you buy a Jura. This is my 4th Capresso/Jura machine over last 25 years. Each one was significantly better than the last except this one. Internally if may be far better but I can't tell - coffee is great, foam is definitely improved but because of the lesser size of the machine the volume(s) of the water tank, used water pan and bean holder are smaller. The bean holder is particularly bothersome because the funnel to the grinder is offset to one side instead of below center as in previous machines. This results in the bottom floor of the bean holder to be at an approximately 20 degree slope down from level which means coffee beans do not slide and have to be manually pushed into the funnel every 5-6 ... MoreMilk foam generation is fantastic. We use dark roast and Peet's, Hills Brothers, Starbucks, and Costco Brands do not flow - they all stick and have to be pushed into the funnel, It is a pain and makes the machine good but not great and, in my opinion, not worth the almost $3k investment.

Good machine with some draw backs
16 December 2022

For the most part, I am pleased with this purchase. Shopped it and researched it for a year. Cons: 1 - The drip tray deck depth is too shallow and cannot support a large mug. I have to hold the mug to keep it from tipping over. 2 - I was not aware I had to clean the milk system after EVERY use. The maintenance cleaning products on this machine will get expensive over time. You must buy filters, cleaning tablets and the milk cleaning micro tablets and all must be official Jura products. 3 - The drip try length is as long as the machine so you have to be careful where you place the machine. It has a large footprint as it is, but then you also need to allow room to remove the drip tray so it takes up a lot of real estate on your counter. 4 - I bought piano black. But I was not aware the bean hopper lid would be plastic if you buy the black. Those are my initial gripes. I have only had the machine a week. The quality of drink seems very good. But the operation, maintenance and cleaning are not great and design issue of the drip tray is problematic. I gave it 4 stars because it is a good looking machine and does allow me to make a cappuccino on the go which is why I got it.

Great Machine Replacement
23 May 2023

Very happy with the purchase of the refurbished S8 Moonlight Silver. Came like a new unit, no cosmetic issues at all, including a pristine drip tray. While mainly used for double espressos, it usually gets a couple of daily cappuccino, macchiato or latte turns. Each consistently come out with great quality. Simple to use via the touch screen. Daily cleanup is simple and with little effort. The look and feel of the unit lives up to the reputation. We have had espresso machines for quite a number of years, from 90s Starbucks/Saeco Barista, 2002 vintage Gaggia Synchrony Logic, and Gamea Revo which just recently gave out. So far, this is the best one yet.

Great deal on an awesome machine!
9 September 2023

When I was shopping around I was looking at some of the lower-cost models brand new. The S8 was a bit more than I wanted to spend, but I saw the refurbished model on sale and figured I’d give it a try after reading several other reviews. The machine arrived and looked brand new. I probably wouldn’t have even known it was refurbished otherwise. So far the S8 will pay for itself in no time since it is so easy to make cafe quality coffee, and I’m not tempted to buy a cup every day. In all honesty I would have most likely gone with the Ena8 had I not found this deal. The main selling point between those two models for me though was the fact the S8 can brew two espressos at a time. If that’s not a feature you need, then you may prefer the Ena8.I also purchased the glass milk cup to go along with it and have tried a variety of milks with the frother. Generally I use oat milk and I think it foams nicely compared to regular, half & half, or heavy cream. Finally, it seems to be easy to maintain (so far). Rinsing the milk system isn’t as bad as people made it sound, and the refurbished model comes everything needed to do so. It has told me I already need to replace the filter, which seems a bit fast considering the water used is excellent quality according to the test kit that was included. I have run the full cleaning cycle as well and I’m still amazed at how little effort is needed to maintain the machine.Overall I’m very happy with the purchase and would 100% buy again.

Great solution for small coworking space!
27 March 2023

I purchased this Jura for a small (5000 sq ft) coworking space I own. It is not staffed full time, so I wanted a way for our members to make themselves good coffee. So far it has been wonderful and we are all enjoying our fancy coffee drinks! I particularly like the decaf bypass feature, as it is nice to offer a decaf option to folks.I leave a couple of labeled mason jars in the fridge with different milk options, so people can just grab a jar and put the milk hose in it if they want a milk drink. I clean the milk system daily, but if I don't get to it once in a while it seems to be fine to be left an extra day. (We don't have a huge volume of drinks.)Otherwise the maintenance is fairly simple, the machine prompts you to fill the water tank and empty the coffee ... MoreI purchased this Jura for a small (5000 sq ft) coworking space I own. Refurbished S8 Piano Black
2 July 2023

Received my machine in about a week after ordering. Would have preferred one of the other finishes, but not for $500 more, and the Piano black looks much better in person than the pics here (higher gloss; really quite attractive, and I actually now prefer it). Watched a couple YouTube videos which were very helpful, as I had it programmed, up and running within minutes. I was coming from several years using a Rocket R58, and a I wanted less perpetual clean-up and ease of use for other family members, and this has certainly fulfilled that desire. I like strong, bold coffee however quickly learned that dialing the aroma up all the way (5 beans) produced bitter coffee; 4 beans was just right. Having the machine ready in about a minute versus waiting 20-30 minutes to warm up the R58 is wonderful. My favorite is 2XCoffee @ 5 oz each fills my cup to the brim with just the right strength. My girls like the cappuccinos and lattes (also @ 4 beans aroma), which they can easily produce on their own with ease. I also sprung for the 1L Cooler with the braided hose and couldn't be happier. My refurb came with about 1500 preparations on the counter, actually quite a bit more than I thought it would, as I thought it would be a store return within a 30 day window, hence 4 instead of 5 stars.

The most important appliance in our home

We seriously love our Jura S8. With two coffee lovers who work from home offices, we could not live without this thing. It makes excellent espressos and is easy to maintain: the machine gets wonderful, nuanced flavour out of most high quality beans and always produces a clean, fresh tasting brew. We are big fans of lighter roasts as we love the complexity of a lightly roasted bean and this machine is great at pulling out those fruity and floral notes. The maintenance products are a bit pricey but they work well and the machine tells you when it needs to be cleaned. This is our second Jura; we started with the compact model and it lasted about 15 years of heavy daily use with only one full maintenance cycle (the two days it was in the shop we were jonesing). Before the Jura I had a good manual espresso machine, but honestly I just didn't always have time to grind and brew and the Jura makes such great coffee it suits all our needs. It makes great Americanos as well, but unfortunately it doesn't have a setting for that so you have to program it in two steps. A bit annoying but we got rid of our drip machine after getting the Jura so when we have people over who just want a cup of regular coffee, a Jura Americano is our go to and I've had more than one drip coffee fan tell me how good the coffee is and ask for more. We have the add-on milk fridge, which I use more than I expected I would, but with or without the fridge the machine makes fantastic Cappuccino (there is a small issue with the milk nozzle in that you have to learn how to use just the right water pressure in your sink to clean the tiny air intake hole in the nozzle or the foam isn't great) and café au lait. As pricey as this machine is, I've done the math and it's FAR cheaper than any pod brewer over the long term even with high priced beans and a huge reduction in packaging (we buy Rosso beans in 5lb bags). I'm happy to see Rosso selling these: I hope they will add the maintenance products as well.

Traded in the Z5 for

Traded in the Z5 for S8 and am very disappointed! Loved the Z5 but unfortunately it broke and they said they were no longer supporting it with parts. So we chose the S8 and it was clearly a mistake! It works fine and makes the coffee but it's very demanding - Runs out of water every day and also the tray has to be emptied every day too. We don't use the milk drinks very often. It makes them OK but then you have to clean the machine each time, or certainly once a day. And it's expensive to buy all the supplies to keep it clean and running. For us, the worst is that the water container isn't big enough and you can't go two days without emptying the tray. Also we are constantly refilling the bean container which isn't very big and definitely using more coffee beans ... MoreTraded in the Z5 for S8 and am very disappointed! No, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone and am trying to figure out how to get rid of it because Jura won't take it back - I asked. Our only choice was to buy the GIGA 6 and spend an additional $2600 - it's bigger but has the same fussy operating system for the maintenance. I am in deep mourning for my Z5 which worked beautifully, made great coffee and didn't enslave me cleaning endlessly.
