I bought this to replace my Yamaha C3 grand after joining a local band, as it took up too much room and I got tired of tuning it. I use a Roland RD2000 and Juno DS for gigging, and the Kawai for my "piano" replacement at home. It is an exceptional keyboard, elegant and incredibly easy to learn and use. It is so enjoyable and inspiring to play, but not really practical for gigging unless you're in jazz band or the like due to the limited onboard sounds. However, the onboard sounds are outstanding, and they can be easily adjusted as needed. I can't say enough about this piano, it's definitely a keeper!!!

I bought this because I was dissatisfied with even the best midi controller keyboards. Wanted real acoustic piano keyboard feel. Exceeded my expectations in that regard. The internal acoustic, electic, and clavicord piano emulations are very good for home use. There are better sound emulating products, but arguably not as authentic of keyboard action. I use the built-in sounds sometimes, but mostly use Keyscape on the computer plugged in via USB to the Kawai. I would definitely buy this or its equivalent controller only model again.

I bought this piano without ever being in the same room with it after reading and watching many reviews. I wanted a realistic piano action and I got it! The keys respond so much like a real piano with the way they bounce as if a hammer was actually inside there. I think the only digital pianos with better action would be the more expensive hybrid Kawai's that actually have real hammers. The sounds are excellent as well, although, I am not really using them. I am using it to control the Garritan CFX Abbey Road piano plug-in. Finally I can play a virtual piano with the same expressiveness and response as an acoustic piano. This thing is not designed to be a workstation. It is designed to be a stage piano and to me, there is none better.

This piano has a similar key action as the Kawai concert grand piano. I believe that the total key length is just a little shorter and the pivot is not exactly the same but unless you're a concert pianist you would never know. The keys have an amazing feel, touch sensitivity is excellent, and the sound is beyond fantastic. I haven't played it much just yet but so far, everything I see about this instrument is first rate. I like the feel of the keys to the touch, they have a nice (non plastic) feel to them.Solid cabinet, made of metal not plastic and the function keys are clear and seem easy to understand. If you have any experience with electronic music everything is very strait forward. One small down side is that this instrument is very heavy. If you have any experience with electronic music everything is very strait forward. One small down side is that this instrument is very heavy. At 73 pounds, I don't see it being used for gigging much unless you are the aforementioned concert pianist. The only other drawback is that you will need some powered speakers to plug into the sound output because it has none of its own. I suspect that anything they could include in the cabinet wouldn't do justice to the sounds this machine can produce. I added a pair of JBL control room monitors and I'm very pleased with the effect. This piano rocks!
After months of researching high-end digital pianos, I ended up visiting a local music shop to try the Kawai MP11 because of the alleged "grand feel" keys. Let me tell you - these beautiful, wooden keys felt so incredible to play upon - I was in love. There is no comparison to the Roland and Yamaha digital pianos. The MP11 is so sensitive and responsive to every kind of playing style - from classical to rock to jazz. It even plays better than my upright Yamaha U1. The piano sounds are perfectly luscious; I recommend high quality monitors with the widest possible frequency range so you can experience all the rich lows and crystal clear highs. I've been practicing for hours, losing track of time because it feels and sounds so good to play on.The only caveat is that ... MoreAfter months of researching high-end digital pianos, I ended up visiting a local music shop to try the Kawai MP11 because of the alleged "grand feel" keys. You need to be physically fit to carry it any appreciable distance. Luckily I'm still young and do CrossFit but it still takes my breath away lugging it around.
Great stage piano with keys that feel like those of a real piano when played (the resistance etc)Even the sustain pedal makes a soft sound when pressed similar to that of a real piano. We loved the possibility of having different piano sounds (grand, jazz...) and being able to record pieces! One thing to note is that the piano itself does not generate any sound (you need to plug the output to headphones or speakers)We'd definitely recommend this model!
I do not recommend KAWAI series MP 11 or 11 SE. There are many problems with these pianos. First of all they have problems with soft-sensor calibration. I don't make the sound the way It should at different levels of velocity. In octave 2 and 3 the volumes are unbalanced compared to the rest of the keyboard. The result is disappointing in the recording. The wooden keyboard tightens over time and the keys touch each other which leads to the blocking of the possibility of singing. Synthetic ivory on the white flaps deteriorates and holes remain in the keys. The keyboard sensors break down easily and you'll have to fix the piano yourself. Don't rely on service. Most have tried to repair themselves as seen on youtube. Last but not least, when you carry this piano, you ... MoreI do not recommend KAWAI series MP 11 or 11 SE. My original review was scrubbed. Perhaps Kawai didn't like it? Basically, amazing keyboard, horrid customer service, getting this keyboard in working condition was a nightmare. Kawai has no customer service. In fact, without some top-rate assistance and pressure from Guitar Center, I'm pretty sure Kawai would have left me with a brand-new broken keyboard. They didn't care at all. DO NOT BUY A KAWAI KEYBOARD UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO SPEND SEVERAL HOURS AND EXTRA MONEY GETTING A WORKING MODEL. That said, it is a fantastic keyboard, just might come broken.
Was debating between this and the Nord Grand for quite some time and I'm glad I went with the MP11SE. I haven't played the Nord Grand, and while I'm sure it's amazing like all their products, I have played other Nord boards and just felt something was missing, besides just the action. It isn't perfect but it's probably about as close as you can get to the real thing (for now) and the samples (while somewhat limited) are excellent. Paired with a Roland KC-990 and some Rattlesnake (the best) cables, this thing sounds amazing and the expressive touch/feel/expression, is top-tier with that real wooden action. Well done, Kawai. As far as Sweetwater goes, pretty impressed. I really appreciate the personal attention from the Sweetwater team throughout the whole process - keep up the great work. Overall, couldn't be happier. An amazing value for what you get. Just be sure to get a heavy duty stand, this thing is a beast. M
This keyboard has no speakers and as of yet we have not found any that sound good. It sound fair ( and only fair) through our church system, but how can you play when it sounds so bad through your monitors??Also it changes sounds . you can set it to be half way good then when you play for service it sounds awful. I have had it 3 years and complained to the Kawai company but they refuse to help. It has been a pain ever since we got it. Listening to videos it sounds great but when you get it it don't Also there is not a Kawai repairman within 100 miles of here to look at it and see why it sounds so bad.Take my advice and get a Yamaha
