I'm pretty disappointed in this pen. It's been recommended to me many different times as a beginner pen or a beginner-amateur pen, but I can't recommend it because it's made with scratchy, really insubstantial plastic that feels bad in the hand. The design is good and it's nice to have it be so compact, at least. The good thing is that the nib is interchangeable and I've switched it out for a stub nib for calligraphy, so that it at least fits a niche.

Arrived well packaged, but the pen nib is bad. I compared it to my other fine nib Kaweco Sports and it is so thin on the tip. I used De Atrementis Brown which should flow well but this pen has trouble. Feels like it might be an extra fine nib than a fine. I don't like that I will have to buy another nib just to replace a bad one. Two stars because the pen is good. -3 stars because of the nib.

Ink only flows out if nib is tilted in certain directions and under certain pressure and a certain speed. ridiculous ! I saw someone using this as a sketching tool so I wanted to give it a shot. But ink will skip out if I try to make swift marks with it. It's not even decent as a pen to jot down notes in my planner. Again, I have to press hard and move slowly and hold it at the right angle or else it just scrapes the page. Maybe I just got a dud ? who knows but I'm cautious to bother buying another when there are so many cheaper and easy to use pens.
This pen is just ok. At the beginning it was a hard start and the ink flow wasn't fantastic. I messed around with it a bit and received a link to an article. I thought maybe it was baby bottom, so used it on kraft paper and pressed on the tines a bit as directed. It got better a bit, but it was still scratchy and very thin line for a fine. It's nothing like my other Fines from TWSBI. I cleaned it and tried a Diamine ink cartridge v. the blue Kaweco that it came with. Still not what I wanted or expected. Then I received the Moonman Wacai mini and filled it with an eyedropper. And THAT is what I wanted. Smooth and beautiful. I would say this nib runs very small. Maybe I'd be happier with a Medium nib, but then I'd spend more money and more time trying to make it work ... MoreThis pen is just ok. This Kaweco Sport fountain pen has become my go-to pen for a lengthy writing project. I bought the converter and I've used only bottled ink. I've had no problems with steering or driving the pen when writing. So far, I've also had no problems with skipping, slow starts, extra ink sloppiness, or any blockages. When not posted, it's too short for my hands, so I always post it. I added the Kaweco Nostalgic pen clip for a guide for my hand (I have a habit of rotating pens when I write; the clip prevents this for me). This pen also rides in my pocket with my keys and some pocket tools, and it's held up very well (the screw-on cap probably prevents my having a pocket full of ink).
So Kaweco..well, here are my thoughts. I am new to fountain pens so take them with a grain of salt, this is my second pen and I bought it for its affordability and ICONIC look. Everybody talk how much they love this pens but I did not , I think is an ok pen and more on the not so amazing side so some pros and cons:Pros* True fine nib, I like better how my writing looks with a fine nib.* Dry pen so its good for cheap paper and not so fountain pen friendly paper.* Lightweight so you can use it posted if that is your jam.* Easy to carry arround, after all is a pocket pen.Cons* Material: I mind plastic pens so much, but for $25 the plastic looks cheap and also sounds cheap, when I unscrew it to check the ink level it sounds awful (squeaky sound not so great in a meeting ... It is a ok writer (sometimes is to dry and does not give me an even line) but I bought it just for looks and nib and well very disappointed, I think the Metro would have been a better purchase. Yes the Al Sport would be better but keeping in mind that it would be the same but paying $60+ does not make it for me, so this is it. I dont recomend it but if you really wanted it and can affor it the Al Sport is where is at, some love the brass but that comes with other factors you need to take in count: weight, it's very heavy 40g againts 9g, smelly (like holding coins). My other pen is a Lamy Safari, not the best pen but I find myself using it more than Kaweco.
I'm so excited I own this pen. It's the perfect size for my small hands and to travel with/keep in my purse. It's sleek and writes beautifully. Great for quick notes on the go while still feeling a little fancy. Highly recommend. Side note, this was part of my first order with this company and I'm throughly pleased with my experience. Packed up and shipped out within hours of placing my order. Everything arrived safe thanks to the thoughtful packing. I'm so pleased with my order I already placed a second order the day after receiving my first. Great company. Highly recommend. Thank you!
These pens always perform well. Do yourself (and the earth a favor) and get the Kaweco mini converter to use bottled ink for endless choices. These are small, light and full sized when capped. Balance is good and the nibs perform very well with easy to control line variation. I can write write for long periods with zero fatigue. Many colors to pick from. Recommended highly!
I had a roommate who turned me on to well crafted writing instruments. I am so glad that she did! Even though my penmanship is piss-poor, writing with this pen is an absolute delight. It stays on me everywhere I go and is used frequently. I highly recommend getting the clip to go with it so it can hang off your shirt or pants pocket.Just the other day I was skating to a nearby coffee shop when a rogue pebble caught me off guard. Man did I bite it. I was scuffed up and the face of my watch was now scratched, but this tank of a pen was barely marked. This pen is a lot like your grandad's old truck. The more you beat the hell out of it, the more it loves you back and better it works. I am rough with this guy. I work in oil and gas and take it out to the field ... The more you beat the hell out of it, the more it loves you back and better it works. I am rough with this guy. I work in oil and gas and take it out to the field constantly. I don't properly clean it when changing inks and opt to simply let the green bleed into the light blue. This is the very definition of an everyday carry pen, and it stays on me. If you have experimented with fountain pens in the past and it wasn't your thing, believe me... I get you. I had a Lamy Safari that felt cumbersome and off balance to use. Once it even came uncapped in my pocket and bleed into my jeans (fortunately it was loaded with blue ink). The threading on the Kaweco Sport ensures that this will never happen. When you post the cap, if fits into the crook of your thumb and forefinger perfectly. If you haven't experienced an extra fine tip, I highly recommend you give it a go.Folks, writing this review has reminded me why I love this pen. I think I will order another for Father's day so my old man can have his own. I always make it a point to keep a good knife, lighter, and pen on me. The Kaweco Sport is an excellent product that I hope to continue using everyday for the rest of my life. If you made it this far and still aren't sold, know that ordering from Goulet is a delight. They package everything with care, and even give you a sucker and sticker. The whole process is great, and I doubt you will ever look back once holding this beautiful tool.
