I have hedgehogs and rats, I buy and love Kaytee brand paper bedding for all of them! It keeps moisture issues and smell down as long as you change it when you're supposed to (at least every week). One of my hedgies loves Aspen so they even have one mixed with Aspen and paper! They really have the paper bedding thing down. While I recommend you NEVER EVER EVER buy any of their habitats or cages for any of your critters (they are WAY TOO SMALL and should be ashamed of themselves for selling it, especially to kids who only see the cool colors and designs but is actually abusive to the animal!) I normally really like this bedding. I have been purchasing this brand of bedding for years... since we got our pig— switching between the pure white bedding and the natural brown. I’ve never tried a different brand because I have always been happy with it.For the most part, the bedding will be tightly compressed with the air sucked out. It was a little bit dusty upon installation, but it settled down after a few minutes. The bedding has a nice smell and I was able to use it for a month without having to clean the cage entirely (with the exception of spot-cleaning). It’s very soft and it expanded a lot, so I really approve of it. My hamster does as well, because he showed his gratitude by making chirping noises while he was burrowing in this bedding lol. It isn’t the best for tunnel-making, but it is excellent for burrowing in! My hammy even enjoys sleeping in it sometimes rather than in the beds + hides he has. Overall a good product. Will be purchasing again.
I’ve been purchasing this same brand since 2019 and the quality has been inconsistent within the last couple of purchases. I currently have a small dwarf hamster that loves to burry and make tunnels. Unfortunately this recent purchase has paper like material that feels like literal cut up paper and had so many random cardboard pieces that I had to go in and pick out. I know some small animals enjoy chewing on cardboard, but there should have been a warning on the packaging that pieces of cardboard is included because my hamster is too small and may accidentally ingest some of these pieces. Even after trying to pick out the pieces, I’m not sure I got out all the pieces and I am very concerned. I will never be purchasing this product again.

Usually after a tank cleaning he will run through the bottom of the bedding and remake his “tunnels”. They usually hold until we have to clean his tank again. It is soft, and perfect for sleeping. It’s also perfect for winter. It is very absorbent and I usually don’t deal with odors, even if I have to go a couple days past our usual weekly tank cleaning. It does have a very slight residue but breaking it apart when putting it in the tank is all I need to do to get rid of the residue without any lingering. There will no doubt be odor accumulation over time, but little bits of spot cleaning are a life changer! Unlike outdated hamster care where you had to change the entire bedding after 2 weeks, your hamsters actually benefit more from spot cleaning. I found that my little fur babies had lower stress levels using the spot cleaning method. If you're looking for a stronger odor control, I recommend Kaytee’s “Extreme Odor Control”. The extreme odor control product would be more beneficial towards young female syrians hamsters, they produce more smelly pheromones during their estrous cycle. I can’t say I’m too sure about other species, but my female and male Campbell/Russian Dwarf hamsters don't omit strong pheromones such as the syrian species.I certainly recommend this product, it is affordable and works great! I love it and so do my fur babies. This product gets an A; it certainly deserves it. :)

I understand that sometimes when companies used recycled things to make their products some stuff might slip thru the cracks but I’m not exaggerating when I say EVERY. sINGLe. BAG has had this stuff in it. I’ve tried buying from different retailers, thought that might have been the problem, nope. Same issuer time after time. I had 2 of the Kaytee 72L natural clean and cozy bedding left over from over a year ago and each package weighed approximately 7.4 lbs. I bought 1 of the same Kaytee 72L natural clean and cozy bedding this past week online and picked up in store for 2 dollars more than a year ago. I immediately noticed a difference on how the package is not compressed like over a year ago. I weighed the package purchased this past week and it weighed 5.2 lbs. I am very unsatisfied on paying 2 dollars more and getting 2.2 lbs. less in package. I will be switching companies.
