This is the first pair of Keens' I have purchased. They won't be the last! This show was comfortable right out of the box and needed no break in time. I also purchased a competitor's show at the same time and these are by far the most comfortable. plenty of room in the toe box and comfortable on the sole. I have painful feet and it is hard to find a shoe I can wear for more than a couple of hours and so far I am wearing these all day.

I hiked over half of the Appalachian Trail in these, about 1100 consecutive miles. They have great durability for trail runners. The soles are thick enough not to feel every jagged edge of sharp rock I came across in PA, and the treads have enough grip to give me confidence on steep smooth rocky slopes in NH and ME. The tread finally started to loosen after about 950 miles, but they kept going with only apart of the sole peeling off. I haven't had a sudden blow out in the soles yet, and the shoes still don't have holes through them, although the interior seam by the heal is ripped exposing the interior now. Of course no shoe is truely water proof, but these do a great job when accidentally stepping in midsize mud puddles, walking through dew coated grass, or light ... MoreI hiked over half of the Appalachian Trail in these, about 1100 consecutive miles. When they did get wet, they dried in a reasonable amount of time, which seemed to be maybe an hour longer than the typical non waterproof mesh trail runner. (drying time depends on weather, degree of wetness, and outside temperature) My feet weren't any hotter in the Keens than in my previous trail runners, which were like sieves when it came to any kind of puddle. My favorite part is the large toe box. My feet swelled in width on the AT, and the other shoe brands had too narrow of a toe box for me. I tried 4 different pairs of shoes on the AT, but I ultimately could've done the entire trail in 2 pairs of these Keens. I intend to add 80 more miles to these shoes before putting them to rest. Of course not every shoe works for every foot shape, so try them out first! I might also mention that I bought inserts for these. I gave it 4 stars because nothing is perfect, but this is a great shoe.

I needed to replace my previous pair of Targhee's. These seem a bit heavier than a few years ago but the same stiff sole, good arch support and nice waterproofing. I prepared for my 2 wks long distance walking in the UK with good training, gradually increasing my mileage and going out daily. No problems with the Targhee's until I got to the UK and developed blisters with bruising on 3 of my toenails within 2 days on the trails. Only diffierence was more irregular terrain. This had happened with my previous pair and I had written it off to being a 1/2 size too small. I guess my feet don't like Targhee's. They also did show more wear on the soles than I would have expected with my 6 wks of training.

I got my first pair of Keens 15 years ago and they were the most perfect shoes I have ever worn. I wore them till the track disappeared and replaced with the same design (presidio). The last time I replaced the design of the toe box had changed and the shoe squashed my toes while I walked. I got the targhee II on advice from the customer service as the only hiker with the original toe box. So now the toes are okay, but the back of the shoe is wide and my heels pop out. I’ve tried everything, tongue inserts, heel inserts, fit is not right. No other Keen shoe left to try.
I have wider feet, so after reading numerous reviews i decided to purchase my first Keens, as they seem to be built for feet like mine. I also went 1/2 size larger, as recommended, and they really fit nicely, straight out of a box.I was surprised how large they looked when i first took them out of a box, but once i had them on my feet they seemed fine.I wore them around house before taking them on a 9mile hike. But no breakin was needed. No pain after the hike, i do however have to complain about the amount of debris that was getting inside through my heel. I was hiking on a decently established path, but i was still getting pine needles and small rocks inside, so i had to stop and fish them out without having to take my shoes off. I was hiking on a decently established path, but i was still getting pine needles and small rocks inside, so i had to stop and fish them out without having to take my shoes off. Maybe this was due to the fact that i like to jog every few minutes or so?!I also didn’t feel like i could tie these properly, the shoes and laces are sturdy (or maybe I’m just spoiled how tight i could tie up my Columbia’s).I had to cross a few streams (or would have to look for several reroutes), so I decided to test how waterproof they are. And they lived to their name - not a single drop inside. I walked through maybe 2-3inches of water and nothing got inside. However, if you walk through a knee-deep creek, your feet will get wet!I will be returning these and going with a mid version because i want to avoid getting in debris on longer trails and have comfortable boot when backpacking. I also want to see if mid boot will offer me more ankle support, because I’m clumsy like that. Definitely sticking with Keens, but probably a DURAND or GYPSUM, as they seem a little less bulky.
I have a pair of Voyageurs that got me around the Cotswolds but I needed a waterproof shoe for my walking holiday along the Great Glen Way in Scotland and these shoes fill the bill. Absolutely no break-in needed for me as was the same as with my Voyageurs. The roomy toe-box is what I need and can never find in other brands. Believe me I've tried! It's Keen for me all the way. Sandals too!
I have worn this style of Keen for years. My old pair had seen better days and I was excited to get these. However they seem to be considerably larger than my old pair. One of my feet is slightly smaller and that has never been an issue. With these running large my heel almost slips out on the one side.I am hoping when they break in maybe I can tie them tighter? I wish I was closer to a store so I could try on a half size down and see if that works. I held them up to my other pair and they look the same size, so maybe it could be the insole or something is updated. I have had 3 pairs prior and never had this sizing issue.
This was my 10th pair of these exact shoes. The 8th and 9th pair had issues with the tread separating from the shoe. Keen replaced pair 8 with pair 9, so I felt I received good service, regardless the shoe had issues. I tried many other shoes, but in the end, thought I'd go back to Keen and while they didn't hold up as well as in the past, they fit well and knew I'd be able to do my through hikes without any problems.Pair 10 - They were too big. After 9 pairs, this shouldn't have been an issue. Perhaps it was the new style insoles. The new ones are inferior to those in the past. I wasn't up for exchanging for a smaller since you can't find them in stock anywhere. More trips to a return center was my breaking point. Super comfortable right out of the box. Good support. Reasonably long life. I’ve been wearing these shoes for years of volunteer field work with state and federal agencies, hiking, snowshoeing, casual wear, and even to the symphony during the winter because my dressy shoes and sandals don’t do well in snow or ice. That said, my only concern is the shoestrings on this newest pair won’t stay tied even though I have them in a fisherman’s knot and double knotted. So when we get home from where we are right now, I’m going to have to get a piece of wax and wax the strings so they’ll stay tied.
Since 2018 my favorite and only lace-ups. Keens just fit my feet, the wide toe box is the best shoe feature I've ever found, especially as I get older. Comfortable, super cute and supportive. For hiking, working and just for everyday and all day on your feet. I ordered a half size larger to wear thicker winter socks, though my last pair kept my feet warm even in thinner socks. I absolutely recommend! Only wish the insert was firmer like my last pair.
