the boots look very sturdy and well manufactured. I was unable to go hiking due to holidays and inclement weather. My first impression was the looked a bit clunky, however I got the all black version. First time trying this brand, went my sizing guide and ordered 9. I may have been able to possibly get away with a 8.5. They look regular to wide which I feel is very comfortable. I wore them for several days inside and outside the house. I was pleasantly surprised how comfortable they are out of the box. No break in period. It feels like putting on my go to boots. I wear a lot of boots for stability an comfort. Plus my ankles don't get so cold in the winter. I am very impressed with these boots and they are vegan which is my go to option. I always wear men's shoes.

I have worn Keen sandals for years, so was excited to try the brand's hiking boots. I often wear 10.5-11 men's shoes/boots/sneakers and got these in a 10.5. They're a little snug, so I couldn't wear them with thick socks I prefer to use while hiking. They fit fine with thinner socks, so something to keep in mind when choosing your size. The boots are relatively light weight, but not the lightest hiking boots I own. They seem durable, and if they last as long as my sandals, they'd be good for years. They're comfortable, easy to lace, with plenty of options to lace all the way up to the top, or even down a couple holes. One day I wore them for a couple hours and my feet, toes and arches felt good. The biggest downside in my opinion is the look of the boots. I don't require hiking boots to be stylish, mostly comfortable and durable, but these reminded me of the bulky-looking hospital shoes nurses wear. These won't necessarily be my go-to's for hiking, but hey, beauty is in the beholder!

I've been using these for a little over two weeks on various hiking surfaces in the Hudson Valley as well as wearing them for daily use on some days. This includes two hikes of approximately 8.5 miles on very hilly, very rocky hiking trails, as are typical in this area, was well as another seven hikes of 5-7 miles each on the well groomed carriage paths at Minnewaska State Park, the Mohonk Preserve and the Rockefeller Preserve. Conditions have ranged from completely dry to a mix of light snow and Ice, to about of foot of snow up in Minnewaska. The most immediate impression upon putting on these boots is they are super light weight with a thick, very flexible, well cushioned sole. Some people may prefer a stiffer sole, but this combination worked well for me as I'd been dealing with some soreness in my forefeet lately and these provided significant relief in that respect. I did find the toe-box to be very much on the wide side, which can leave your forefeet feeling like they're swimming around a bit when navigating steep rocky downhills. The wide toe box made jogging in them feel unnatural as well, as it lacks the stability of a running shoe.Despite the lightweight construction, using these with micro-spikes was no problem. Since it was well below freezing on all these hikes, the fact that they're not waterproof was not a concern, but obviously these would not be the best choice for wet conditions. If you're looking for a very light, very cushiony mid-height, dry weather boot, these are a great choice as long as you're OK with the tradeoffs; i.e. no waterproofing and a lot less support than you would get with a stiffer, more solidly constructed boot. I haven't used them enough to comment on durability beyond stating that after about 45-50 miles there is no sign of anything breaking down or unraveling.I gave them 4 stars, since I thought adding a tad more stability to them would be an improvement.

The Keen NXIS Speed Mid Hiking Boot is another great footwear to add to their strong collection! Upon first taking them out of the box and trying them on, I admit they felt rather heavy on the feet. But after wearing them outside for general use for 2 days, I quickly adapted to their feel and it was as if I was wearing a regular shoe. Overall feel is great! I love the wide-ish toebox, arch support cushion, and how the boot seems to move with the foot once they are broken in! I wore them outside in the cold and snow as well and my feet stayed dry. If I had any cons, it was the laces. No matter how tight I tie them, they come loose which relieved the ankle support. It felt like the foot moved around too much within the boot even when the shoe was still tied, but the ... MoreThe Keen NXIS Speed Mid Hiking Boot is another great footwear to add to their strong collection! It felt like the foot moved around too much within the boot even when the shoe was still tied, but the strings were loosened. This may all change once the boots are broken in. Perhaps some 'speed hooks' at the last eyelet would help keep the shoelace taught. Otherwise I'm really impressed with these boots and am a fan of Keen! This is my 3rd pair from them, and first boot, and I will continue to purchase their shoes in the future!
I bought a pair last year, loved these so much I bought another. They endured very high use age, lasted quite well except save for tread ware.Very grippy though, due to soft compound tread rubber so I’m fine with that. They are just so so comfortable and so incredibly lightweight, they behave more like a sports mid boot than a hiker.Keep in mind that the airy fabric of the upper isn’t remotely waterproof, so consider a more suitable boot for such a situation.I have a waterproof pair of Keens for rainy days or snow trips but will always look forward to putting these back on at every opportunity. This is my most everyday boot now, can’t recommend more highly.Usually need to look outside AUS for these, Thanks for the opportunity to buy locally at a competitive ... MoreI bought a pair last year, loved these so much I bought another. This is my most everyday boot now, can’t recommend more highly.Usually need to look outside AUS for these, Thanks for the opportunity to buy locally at a competitive price Brand House Direct.
We have many pairs of Keens in our household, so it's obvious that we're fond of them. The open toe box and generally wider fit are the main reasons we prefer Keens. The heavy duty toe bumpers do a great job keeping our toes protected from root and rock collisions. Unfortunately this particular model had issues with the toe bumpers. They appeared too low to the sole and caused pain just attempting to fully insert my feet into the shoes, even though the overall size was fine. It was for this reason alone that I returned the shoes. Too bad, as they really are nice looking and otherwise fit accurately like all the other pairs we own.
I typically hike in shoes that are lighter and more agile, but sometimes my ankles wish I had opted for something a bit more sturdy. Out of the box, these boots felt light, if a bit stiff. I wore them around the house for a day before taking them on an initial 4 mile hike. Then, I took them out for a 18 miler in the Smoky Mountains.Overall, they performed pretty well. I didn't feel as agile as I do in my shoes, but the support I got around my ankles was noticeable, and surprisingly comfortable. In addition, I prefer a wider toe box and these boots didn't feel as narrow as some of the Merrells I have. I also liked the serious toe protection these had, and they breathed well too. I don't like the all-black though. Out of the box, these lightweight hiking books are top notch, are super light and nimble, great feel, fit like a glove and come up around the lower ankle for some solid support. no need for them to be broken and and first time out around the city in mild temps worked great and are very breathable. I would no doubt purchase these again and again. They are great for all day on your feet for if you work in the service industry like myself. As for on the trail, they have solid grip, and you can feel the trail beneath your feet well to have a solid footing on the ground. Note that they are not waterproof and have a light breathable upper so they will get your feet wet if you are out in any sort of wet conditions. My only hang up is the toe box looks a bit funny when looking directly down at them, otherwise they look and feel like a well worn in pair of tactical work boots!
Looked forward to trying the Keen hiker with their history of roomy toe boxes. I have been looking for an alternative to my Merrell Moab hikers since I'm on my 4th pair. First impression is that the Keen's have a much more cushioned sole. I would believe this is due to the footbed that is used. Of course the Keen's lived up to their reputation in providing abundant toe room in the toe box. The Keen's also felt much lighter. My 10.5 size weighed in at 14 oz. I have worn the Keen's daily now for 3 weeks. Trail hiking, shoveling rock, and general use has shown them to be super comfortable. New Year's eve outside in 40 degree weather with wind showed them to be quite warm. I like the external ankle pads to prevent my malleolus from getting hit. The tread pattern does pick up quite a bit of mud when walking in muddy conditions. The laces must be double knotted due to round laces and no cleats or they will come untied. Tread was very slippery on iced up parking lot and crosswalk. All black coloring allowed me to wear these to work everyday without being noticed.
This is my first pair of Keen shoes. Overall, I am very happy with them. They feel quite light with a lot of cushioning and are comfortable. I have not gone on a rugged hike yet but for light duty hiking I am extremely pleased.Potential negatives (based on personal preference): I would prefer to have the heel a bit higher than the forefoot. Also, I would prefer to have more of a varus wedge. Arch support and heel hold are good but not great. Finally, the look from above is a bit odd for my age 60+ eyes, but not embarrassingly so.Sizing: I recommend getting your normal street shoe size. Toe box is quite roomy and fit is fine overall. Typically I go up a 1/2 size for hiking shoes but it does not seem to be needed in these shoes.
