They had great waterproofing to start out and helped me during a few heavy rainstorms but, the covering gave out along the seems and where my foot tends to bend when I crouch thus, exposing a non water proof fabric. I put these shoes through the wringer and I may not have done enough to care for them as they often got wet and were exposed to some cleaning chemicals. However I’ve have had Timberlands and Merrell last much longer. The comfort and tread it still alright but I they were not up to the demands of my job. I’m disappointed in how much I paid for them.

I purchased these in a 7.5, and typically wear 7 in street shoes. One I broke them in, I wished I had sized down, but in the store the 7 was just way too tight on my toe.I wore them straight of the box on a 15 mile trail that included mud and puddles, no problems. I wore them again on an 9 mile snow trail that included glissading. Temperatures rose so the snow became a slushy mess. These shoes filled with SO much water, and not through the ankle as I had gaiters on and pants stayed dry under them. I was walking in pools of water, inside my shoe for 2 hours. Granted, it was raining for hours and my raincoat also soaked through down to my base layers so conditions were pretty extreme. The quality and construction are great, and if your feet are narrow, this could be a great shoe for you, but it's not for those of us with Hobbit feet. It's a lot narrower and shorter than the earlier versions—the wide fits like an old school medium. Going up an extra half size didn't help, although it did help with the length—this shoe runs short. Keen's celebrated wide toe box has apparently been sacrificed for a sleeker profile, but I don't wear Keens as a fashion statement, I wear them for good traction and comfortable fit while hiking. I am truly disappointed to no longer be able to wear my favorite hiking shoes. I hope the Targhee IV will be a better fit.

I was having some serious foot pain, between walking our dogs and hiking with our daughter for Scouts. I would be limping before the end of a 1-mile walk/hike (had been 2 two-mile walks a day with our dogs before my injury). I thought I had a hairline fracture after bruising the top of my foot a few weeks ago. Since it never got better, I asked my doctor about it and she had me get it x-rayed. Turns out, I have arthritis. I would have rather had a break. The salesman at REI helped me find the right boots for my feet. A few days later, I went on a weekend campout with our daughter's troop. I didn't have any of the pain I'd had before from the arthritis in my foot! And my feet stayed dry. I hope to get back to walking our dogs regularly soon. I have been a dedicated wearer of Keens for years due to the original 'Keen Fit' which had a pretty wide toe box and overall generous width. I wore Targhee for years (12+ pairs) before switching to Durand (now discontinued, sadly), and returned to Targhee due to lack of options for wide width. I was excited to have an actual 'wide' option in the boot, but after a little wearing, the wide feels no different than the original fit, perhaps even narrower- so much so that I am wondering if the box was mislabeled. The material also feels a bit stiffer than the old material. Maybe over time they will stretch in the foot area, but the toe box is what it is. I normally wear an 8.5 but sized up to a 9 to allow for more movement in the foot area for descents. They are completely waterproof (tested this out during a recent flooded hike). As for comfort, the leather needs time to break in but overall I find them very comfortable. This is my second pair of Keens, my favorite book for wear n tear and price; I've worn out Oboz, very good boot also; La Sportiva (super comfy but soles failed-remember I'm pretty hard on my boots).Back to Keen, in all my boots I change out the insole. I wear 'Sole' brand, firm base to support added weight of my pack. The insoles last over a year. I take them out at every break to dry, air out and I wash them. I was looking for a boot for better ankle support. Took a chance on these as the store didn’t have my size in stock to even try on so had to order. Straight out of the box these have been incredibly comfortable and needed little to no break in period. I walk/hike 3-5 miles per day regardless of the weather, and these boots have been such a surprise. The toe box is on the wide side which is great when wearing a heavier sock. They have kept my feet warm and dry. I did just order the low cut version for times when I might not need as much boot - and I did order a half size down thinking of warmer weather and thinner socks. We shall see when they arrive how that works out. Overall, these have worked perfectly for me.

Seems like a shoe company should know that many women have bunions which require a larger toe box.
