I have a wide foot and this boot is the best fit I’ve ever had. Currently in Badlands National Park trekking and photographing the Badlands and these boots do not disappoint. The sole over rocky soil is a huge winner. I like the fact that the boot is guaranteed not to delaminate. That’s what sold me along with a great fit. These boots look great, have great tread, and seem to be exceptionally well-made.I recommend these 110%!

I'm a long time Targhee IV wearer. This is probably my fourth or fifth pair. These are, without doubt, the best version yet. I'm a big man (400+ pounds) and I require a supportive shoe. These are without a doubt the finest shoes I've ever owned. The support my foot unlike any other shoe that I've owned in my adult life. I plan to take them on my annual trip to the Grand Canyon this year. The previous version use to come apart and by the end of their usable life they would be as much 2-part epoxy and Shoe Goo as anything else. De-lamination was a REAL problem and my only real issue with previous generations. These issues appear to have finally been fixed with this new version. I'm looking forward to getting out west and trying them out.

I have the Targhee III hiking boots I bought from REI. They're are well made and comfortable.Sadly, they're not the best for hiking on slippery trails when descending. I wound up slipping while descending on a trail and injuring my knee. The trail had pea gravel embedded into the dirt, and the nearby creek made the gravel a little slick.I believe the reason the boots allowed my feet to slide out from underneath me is that there isn't really any deep tread on the heels; they're basically smooth on the heels. With no tread on the heels to dig into the trail going downhill, there's nothing to keep the boot anchored to the trail. Unfortunately, the Targhee IV suffers from the same heel design flaw.

This is my fifth pair of Keen hiking boots. The previous were all Targhee III's. I was never completely satisfied with the quality of the III's but they fit well. These Targhee IV's appear to be much better constructed and it appears that they have improved the quality of the soles and used better quality materials. My only complaint would be the color. I'm very optimistic about the longevity of the Targhee IV's. I'll provide an update in a few months.
Been a Keen customer for a very long time. The quality of the boot is great but the feel of the quality in the insole is probably the most uncomfortable I’ve had to date. You slide all over and feels like there is no cushion or support at all. My feet hurt everyday with these. I don’t know why Keen doesn’t put the “utility insoles” as standard in them. The utility insoles are the best as I’ve had many pairs of Cincinnati’s. This is the first time I tried something different because I wanted something a little lighter in weight.Think the harder/more durable construction of the new sole needs to be complimented by a better quality insole like the “utility”.
I've been a Keen fan on and off for 20+ years. Once upon a time, all of the toe boxes were more rounded allowing the toes to spread out. It now seems that Keen is more similar to everyone else. Unfortunately these boots continue that trend, even with the wide versions. It is unfortunate since there is a lot to like about the Targhee IV. The sole and tread have held up well on the rocks of the desert southwest. The no delimitation construction. Very robust toe guard. Sharp color combo. The lacing system snugs up perfectly, but it could use a little more padding on the upper portion of the instep. The fit is not what I'm used to with Keen. Snug in the toe box and loose in the heel is not a good combination.I won't be buying another pair. Back to my Oboz.
I've bought Keens in the past and also Merrills. Both brands are pretty comfortable right out of the box. My problem with both brands has been that the soles separate from the uppers due to failure of the glue. This new version of the Keen says they use a new bonding method instead of glue. Time will tell if they last better. But if they don't I know Keen customer service will replace them (as they've done in the past with previous purchases). Fingers crossed because these are very comfortable and good looking.
I wear these in my nursery in SE Mass. It's been wet this year and the last pair I had was the older design and the soles de-laminated. These are pretty waterproof..they better be after only a month. They were a tad bit longer to break in...like a week as opposed to a couple days..no biggy. The toe box seems bigger which is great for my bigger right foot. Overall fit is good. I've been walking in wet snow, puddles, slush and mud. All good so far. For me the true test is after 6 or so months....I'll let you know!
This is my second pair of Targhee boots and my fifth pair of Keens boots/shoes. I love that they fit great right out of the box, They are well made (mostly) and look pretty good. My complaints are primarily with the lace straps as I have broken four of them between the first pair of targhee boots (3) and another shoe (1). The boot was otherwise in good shape but I had to jury rig eyelets for the laces to continue to use them. I also had issues with soles separating on first pair, so I am anxious to see how the NEW welded soles hold up.
i dont think the upper and lower will seperate on these boots. i feel like the thin waterproof layer will start getting holes and not be waterproof anymore. Thats literally why i keep buying more i clean pools and cant have wet feet or my toe skin splits open (trench foot). i sprayed them with a silicon boot waterproofer as soon as i got them. Keen should work on the keen dry technology since its a very thin layer and my #1 issue with any brand of boot. ps keens have the best grip on wet surfaces.
