Keen Womens Targhee IV WP Shoes US 9 Brindle / Nostalgia Rose

I can never find any that fit properly and many times I find myself cramming my feet into shoes that are always too tight. Now I must confess... I don't exactly have small feet... or medium feet... or normal feet! I guess you could say my feet are a bit on the larger size and on top of that I swear my feet just keep getting wider and wider. So, when picking out new shoes, I usually either have to settle for the select few (hideous) styles that are made for wide feet or I have to buy shoes that are at least one size to big (literally clown shoes.) I was so pleased to find that these boots were not only available in larger sizes, but they come in wide sizes as well. They are comfortable (once you break them in) and I was amazed at how roomy they truly are. They are definitely lightweight, however they also seem very rugged. Overall I think they are going to be great hiking boots that are going to last me many years to come.

Comfortable and quite roomy for my toes.

I wore these camping and hiking last weekend. I was quite pleased that they didn’t seem to need a lot of “breaking in”. I purposely bought a half size bigger than Keen recommended for me, because I wanted to have room for thick sox and orthotics. I think my choice was good, though they are definitely roomy. I don’t really like the rose color, but those were the ones on sale, and I will get used to it. Easy to find in the closet!I have a very old and worn pair of Keens with the “weird-shaped toe” that they no longer make. I loved that comfortable toe, but these are almost as comfortable. (I am still wearing the old ones, however!}

First of all, these shoes

First of all, these shoes are not just the lower cut boots. I usually wear a size 7 in the boots but had to order a size 6.5 in these shoes. The shoes don t have the little hooks which keep the laces taut and they loosen up as you are walking. I have narrow ankles, so unless I put on really thick socks my ankles slide up and down in the shoe. Never had that problem with the boots. The insoles are not very padded and are very thin. I had to replace the insoles. These shoes feel better than the Merrill s I ordered. I like the big toe box and they are more substantial than the Merrill hikers I bought. I don t feel like I m walking on concrete. I hope these don t delaminate after a year like my last two pairs of boots did. If so, these will be the last I buy. Great even with foot problems

I recently bought these Keen Targhee And love them. Years ago i also wore this same brand and style keen But had switched to hokas. I haveHad plantar fasciitis for twenty years and almost two years go I broke my ankle and tore through some ligaments. But about a year before I broke my ankle I needed some new shoes and was looking around to see if there was something better. I was happy with my keen's the only complaint I had was that for work I'm in and out of a lot of houses and the tread on them was tracking quite a bit of dirt. (But that same tread makes them the best hiking shoe). A salesman had talked me into trying on a pair of hokas ,"supposedly The best shoe on the market for people with feet problems". I have to admit when I first tried them on They felt soft and cushy. But not only did they not hold up they also did not provide the support that my feet need. I was wearing them when I broke my ankle. About six months later I bought my second pair of hokas. And it took me several months after that To realize that they were actually making my ankle worse. I was not getting better. So out of desperation trying to find a pair of shoes that didn't make my feet worse. I put on an old pair of keen Targhees ,(That I had previously worn for a couple years so they were quite broke in), And my feet did not hurt. I wore them for a month and had no problems with them. Now my hokas are in the trash and I decided to buy another pair of keen Targhees. So far I'm very happy with them.They are a little roomier than they used to be. That works for me since I have wide feet. And so far, the tread has not tracked any dirt into my house.But i've only worn them for a couple of weeks. So not sure if they made a change on that or not. Now it will just be a test of time to see if they are as durable as they used to be. When I Googled, best shoes to wear for people with foot problems, Keen never came up on my list but, i don't know why. I would highly recommend them.

Love the new roomy fit!!

Initial thoughts: much wider than previous models with better arch support. I have only worn them around the house a bit so time will tell on durability and comfort while walking long distances.The wider toebox is an awesome upgrade for someone with wide feet. Thank you Keen!I've always loved the womens colors but was forced to buy a mens model in order to get a wide enough shoe.They seem true to size for me in length. The fact that the width fits me well likely means they run wide. I would probably size down 1/2 size if you don't have wide feet or plan to use an insert.The rose color is gorgeous in person! Exactly like stock photos.

My new favorite shoe

I love this shoe! Very sturdy and supportive. After reading about it running large, I ordered both my regular size and a half size smaller. It was a dilemma - there wasn't much difference and either seemed fine. I had a slight preference for the smaller size and crossed my fingers... and....it's perfect! No heel slippage nor are my toes shmushed. It fits like a glove, and didn't require even a second of breaking in. A little bummed that it went on sale only days after I got it, but that always happens to me. I took advantage of the sale to order a Targhee hiking boot because now this is the only shoe I want to wear. (P.S. I had also ordered a Targhee III shoe to compare, and really preferred the dark gray color but for some reason it was just not as comfortable. ... MoreI love this shoe! Very sturdy and supportive. Not Pretty, But Very Comfortable

Keen sizing varies so much that in some styles a size 7-1/2 is a comfortable fit for me, while in other styles I need a size 8 or even a size 9. Since I needed a size 9 in the Targhee III hiking shoe, I ordered a size 9 in the Targhee IV. After seeing an online review which stated the Targhee IV was too large, I was afraid I would have to return these shoes when they arrived. Fortunately, while the shoes look somewhat big and ungainly, they fit my feet comfortably with heavy socks, and with the addition of arch support insoles the shoes are sufficiently snug at the back and provide excellent arch support. A smaller size would be too tight at the toes, so I'm happy to keep these shoes and enjoy long walks on country roads and trails in them. This is a Goldilocks company

I've bought several pairs of shoes from Keen over the past 30 years and always liked the generous toe box, which seems to be a thing of the past.Most recently I bought 3 pair in my regular size. One is a little on the small side with a narrow toe box, but comfortable enough for a shorter walk. Another was way too big and the waterproofing failed so I sent them back.Now, regarding this latest shoe....I did go down a half size because I read that they run large and I recommend that. I bought the sale shoe and missed the teensy print saying these are a wide. I was surprised when I pulled out a shoe that looked like one of those orthopedic models. But I tried them anyway and they're comfortable and supportive enough. The width gives me that beloved roomy toe box. Time will tell

I wear an 8.5 wide in Keen Targhee II boots. I saw many reviews stating the Targhee IV run large and suggested downsizing. So I bought both 8 and 8.5 sizes.The 8 was too narrow in the toe box and the 8.5 is a bit long with a bit of heel slip even with my custom orthotic inserts. I decided to stick with the bigger shoe to allow thick socks when needed.In my opinion, this shoe requires some break in time because they are stiffer than Targhee II (not a bad thing). Although, my feet have been sore after wearing them for no more than 3 miles. My Targhee II boots didn’t cause any issues straight out of the box.Time will tell as to how long they will last. I’m praying they last longer than my Target II boots that delaminated after only a few months use.

Zero lateral support

I remember when Keen's low hikers actually had supportive uppers. Not these. For starters, they have only five lace points, with no extra holes high up near the ankle for those of us with narrow feet. I have tried every lacing technique I can think of, but the uppers on these shoes are about as supportive as my bedroom slippers. My whole foot moves laterally any time I am on an uneven surface. I've only worn them outside twice so far, on some relatively easy Chugach State Park trails near me here in Anchorage, AK.They would work great as a really, really expensive pair of waterproof sneakers for Mall walkers, but they are not built for the outdoors.
