The KEF LSX are phenomenal sounding speakers, especially when taking their size into consideration. They are the ideal speaker for a desktop environment. In addition the LSX are powered/active speakers with a built in digital to analogue converter (DAC) with various wired and wireless connectivity options. However, when connecting to the LSX via the aux/3.5mm to a phone, my desktop, or anything else I would get a loud obnoxious hissing sound. I tried three different 3.5mm cables and had the same issue. I had to use the optical in so I could use the speakers with my desktop.Set up was also a major pain. You have to use the KEF control app which states the LSX won’t connect if you’re using a mesh network…I have a mesh system where the 2.4ghz and 5ghz are mixed instead of separated out. All the other 40 devices in my home have no issue connecting with a mesh network and I wasn’t about to split my network into 2.4 and 5 just for these speakers. Luckily, I just connected the master speaker into ethernet but if I wanted these speakers in a place that I couldn’t easily run ethernet to them I would have been forced to looked for an alternative. After the speakers were up and running and had their firmware updated I started to enjoy the sound stage and the KEF coloring on the music. I couldn’t use an aux/3.5 mm due to the hissing sound, so I used airplay to connect my phone to the LSX system. The LSX system was connected to my network via ethernet, then the music began to stutter and stop. I was 2 feet away from the KEF LSX therefore there was no reason for this to happen. I cast music to my sound bar and google homes with no issue at all, then used airplay to send my music the LSX for 30 minutes until I had the stutter and stop issue again.Lastly, the bluetooth connectivity can be aggravating if you have more than one bluetooth source since the KEF control app doesn’t easily tell you what device is connected to your LSX set up. I really like the sound the LSX produces, however the connectivity portion is not well thought out and buggy at best. Maybe I got a mediocre set, or maybe KEF can fix these issues with a future firmware update (my set is currently on 4.1 as of 1/31/20).

The KEF LSX Hi-Res Wireless Speakers are absolutely stunning. From the moment you open the box, you can see the meticulous care that went into not only packaging the speakers, but designing and building them. The quality is top notch as expected with speakers at this price point.Setup of the speakers was easy. Plug in, download the app, update firmware, and start listening. Be up and running within 20 minutes (the longest part of setup was the firmware update).Wow, once you hear the sound these speakers produced, you will be blown away. Absolutely amazing sound. The only critique I have for the system is the second app needed for streaming from Spotify. The main app is relatively easy to use and offers good functionality (setup of speakers, equalizer, etc.), but you have to download a second app if you wish to stream from Spotify. Seems like this functionality could have been built into one app for convenience. But that's a minor inconvenience given the other ways to play music on the speakers. Airplay worked flawlessly, bluetooth was easy, or connect a device via fiber optic for clear sound.I must say I wasn't expecting much from these compact little speakers, but was I wrong. You won't be disappointed at all.

The LSX speaker is cumbersome and ultimately unusable. I wasted one hour with the setup which requires multiple cycles of connecting the smartphone to the speaker, the speaker to the wifi, then needing to update the firmware, then there were connection issues etc etc. What amazes me is that the speaker cannot be used AT ALL without the remote or without the app. No buttons, no volume, no on/off, nothing. Without your app / remote this is no more than an expensive (good looking) door stop.Eventually it did work and whilst the sound quality is nice, the speakers are unusable for my purposes. Having tried various high quality (expensive) cables for the AUX there is a horrible hiss / humm that you cant get rid of. Also, the speakers make a horrible high pitch sound when the speakers are in standby mode in unison with the flashing light in front. Also: advice to DJs, the sound on AUX comes out with about 150/200 ms latency which makes it also completely unusable for Djing purposes. In summary: an expensive hard to use, stylish-looking, unfit-for-purpose toy. My advice to the creative minds: go back to basics. Spend the extra 10 pounds on including a couple of buttons. Get rid of this nonsense with firmware updates. The speaker is not a laptop. It doesn't require an operating system, wifi connection and all of that. Blue tooth is enough, and at least that is more reliable (albeit also not perfect). Also: the AUX just doesn't work at all to the level of quality it ought to.

Let’s start with the good news.I have been living with these little boxes for about a month, hooked up to my Tidal account and linked together using the supplied Ethernet cable. (The cable makes an obvious difference in performance)In use, these compact boxes deliver the sort of quality I’d expect from Kef. Get the placement right and the sound stage is not going to disappoint you - especially with more recent masterings. Trebles twinkle and the mid ranges are tactile. Even the bass response is surprisingly good and detailed for such compact boxes. Although I’d like to hear them matched up to a decent sub speaker to give them that extra weight. But given the LSXs price point, parting with another £ grand plus for the KC62 seems an unlikely match. But given the LSXs price point, parting with another £ grand plus for the KC62 seems an unlikely match. No matter how good the sub might be. Over to you Kef. Can we have a wireless sub to match please?I brought the white speakers because I had concerns over the durability of the fabric covered options. A bit of style over function? The build quality is great. Nothing cheap feeling about these speakers. Now the bad news. The App. I know I am not the first to mention it but it’s not what you’d expect after spending this much. I had The Bluesound node2i which didn’t miss a beat. This App really isn’t in the same game and if Kef don’t update this dog soon I will have to spend yet more money on Roon. Tidal is gapless but this App seems to want to put the gaps back in. Plus it has a nasty habit of cutting the end of tracks short. Argh!!!!!Would I recommend?Depends on you. If you want flexibility with exceptional sound? If you already run your music through Roon? If space is limited and you need hifi that lends itself seamlessly into your digital lifestyle? Then these little boys will tick many boxes.
I wanted to downscale my set up consisting of separates, to focus mainly on streaming, but wanted flexibility of connecting different audio sources including an existing turntable with built in pre-amp. After expert advice from Brighton Store over email and the phone, KEF LSX seemed to best fit my needs and I bought a mint condition, open box product during lockdown. The sound is phenomenal - when set up and positioned correctly. They are set up around 1.7m apart on a shelf, either side of a TV and while they are not Dolby compatible, they have effectively replaced my Pioneer sound bar and 5.1 system and I've not regretted the change. Note - if connecting a turntable, make sure that you eliminate any potential ground loop feedback, as the 3.5 aux input is sensitive and generated a 60Hz hum when my Audio Technica TT was connected. Havinig tried a number of different solutions, including different power extension cables, external pre-amps and ground loop isolators, I have had to ground the TT to the metal ethernet input on the back of the speakers using a ground wire, even though this should not be needed because the Audio Technica has a built-in preamp. Second issue was discovered a couple of months after purchase - the secondary speaker developed a high-pitch whine when in standby. It was faint but loud enough to be annoying. On this point, I cannot stress enough how great Richer Sounds were in getting this problem fixed. They took back the speakers and sent them off to KEF who replaced the faulty part. All good so far. This would have been a 5 star review, had it not been for these issues, however, this was an open box purchase.
Most of the other reviews here touch on the main points of these speakers, they have a phenomenal sound for their price, and after a nearly painless setup you're good to go. The problems arise when you use the app for these speakers, the KEF Control or KEF Stream apps. Not sure why they decided to split them up, but one acts as a remote and EQ customizer while the other allows for connection to roon, Qobuz, TIDAL, Spotify, etc. My first time opening the app, it said I needed a firmware update. Upon starting it, the app crashed, leaving my speakers unusable. I had to restart the app multiple times to fix the issue, and was only able to resolve it by connecting the speakers to my PC and downloading the firmware manually rather than over wifi. If I have one recommendation for these, use the ethernet connections. Connect them to your router, and connect them together with the included cable. I've read many complaints about the 2.4Ghz signal dropping, and the tedium isn't worth your time. Do yourself a favor, avoid the headache, enjoy the higher bandwidth, and connect them to each other.Once you get past all of the setup, it doesn't take long to recognize the impressive soundstage these produce. 70W for the LF and 30W for the HF, 100W per speaker is wonderful for a near-field listening setup. The Uni-Q drivers are as warm and accurate as ever, with a fast and punchy bass that makes you wonder how the vocals maintain their clarity. Oh, that's right. The tweeter has a separate magnet and stays clean from the mid-driver. I added a B&W 608 Subwoofer to the setup thanks to the sub output on the master speaker, and my bedroom setup feels nearly perfect.Love these speakers. If KEF fixes their app, I'd rate these perfectly at their price point.
So..speakers..well to put it plainly these are something else. The balance in sound, the easy connectivity/the many different connection options, the style is real slick too. I also like the weight of the speakers..you can tell it’s speaker thats gonna last based on its weight, but that’s my opinion and not everyone is going to agree. Everyone has their own taste so these might not be for you and that’s okay!! Now overall for these speakers..i love them and im so happy i finally got them.
In summary loads of connectivity and great sound in a very small package! The sound quality, separation and sound stage KEF produce with the LSX are amazing. I originally owned a Naim atom and KEF LS50's which is a fantastic system, but decided to look for something smaller that I could fit along side my home theatre setup in one listening area.So I sold the atom and LS50's and got two Devialet phantom reactors to run as a stereo pair, which are very good speakers which go unbelievably low and pack a punch but I just felt something was missing from the sound signature i was used to.So I decided to pickup the KEF LSX and wow, with direct comparison to the reactors I could hear the sound stage was a lot wider and had more separation. Yes the reactors can produce better low end bass and are louder but the LSX just had a better overall sound which engages and pulls you into the music. But I still had this niggle in my mind if I was 100% happy and If I made the right choice selling the atom and LS50's. Here's a big shoutout to RICHER SOUNDS customer service as they allowed me to put my money down for set of KEF LS50 WII and take the display model home to try in my room. Then I could either return the LSX and the display LS50's and get a brand new pair of LS50's or just keep the LSX. Then they would refund me fully depending on my decision. The LS50 WII are more capable speakers but were just too big for my room (which is a small garage conversion) and in my opinion did not offer a big enough improvement over the LSX for the price difference.I now have no regrets keeping the LSX which really do sound amazing, I have just hooked them up to my KEF T2 subwoofer from my cinema setup and wow this takes them to the next level.
I contacted the Newcastle store and spoke for advice on a wireless speaker system I was interested in the Kef LSX for listening to streamed music downstairs.During the lockdown, I couldn’t visit the store to listen to the speakers. This was a problem as I was spending a significant sum of cash on something before the demo and I have a particular sound signature I enjoy. The staff member was extremely helpful, honest, and accommodating. Exemplary service from th store and greatly appreciated. After the initial speaker set up via the Kef app I was soon listening to my music via Spotify and the sound was outstanding. I was hearing instruments in music I could not hear before when played through my Yamaha Soundbar or even my Bose wave radio. My previous AV setup was Kef orientated and I loved the sound but for many reasons, we changed to a soundbar system.I honestly had forgotten how good a high-end kit can sound. There is only one problem now and it's getting expensive. I want better headphones for my computer as I now know how music is meant to sound. Thanks
These speakers sound great; rating on sound alone, they would be 5/5. Unfortunately all the baggage they come with makes me regret the purchase. The wi-fi and bluetooth connectivity is patchy at best. I use an iPhone and Macbook to connect, and have had too many glitchy interactions to list—to the point that the thought of firing them up to play music in the morning is more stressful than pleasurable. The app that controls the speakers is slow and feels low-budget. For instance, yesterday I tried to switch the input to aux using the app, but instead the app froze for several sections, and I had to turn the speakers off and on and reselect 'aux' to get it working.I have sent a few emails to KEF customer service, but after one reply they ignored the follow-ups and new tickets, which makes me suspect the company is not interested in much besides providing the highest possible sound quality and then leaving customers adrift. It’s a shame, because when the speakers are working without a glitch, I love them.
