Bang for the buck

Very pleased. As described by other reviews, not enough base to rattle the mirrors and windows but, just the right amount of base to give your music a strong, smooth, quality sound that most speakers mounted in the door just can't provide. I replaced 4 factory 6 X 8's in the doors of my son's Toyota Tacoma with Kicker Coax models and that made a nice improvement but, still lacked any deep, strong base. The Kenwood compact sub was the smallest of all the under seat subs and one of the best priced I could find. Alpine makes a compact sub but, it's nearly twice the price. So, I decided to give the Kenwood a shot and thought that if it doesn't give us enough punch, I could purchase a second one for just about the same price as 1 Alpine compact sub. The wired remote works well. It's nice to have it in easy reach to make a little adjustment to the crossover point or gain control. As a rule, you get it set to a point that your happy with and leave it there. I found a YouTube video that showed a guy that rigged up 2 subs that he could control through 1 remote control. My son is happy with the sound. He says the system finally has a full sound. Good bang for the buck as long as you keep your expectations in check and remember how much you spent for it. Very pleased with it.

Installed this particular subwoofer for the first time last week. Easy installation and can appreciate the slimline design and solid enclosure. Sound quality is good (keep your expectations in check here) Weight is moderate for the size. Looks great and nice add on to any kenwood system. The lighted remote is kinda a love-hate thing. It is corded (phone cord), and our installs we normally set it and forget it. If this sub is tied into your stereo RCAs (sub out) then you have full function regardless. If you use the supplied high output wiring that Is supplied with the sub, then you will need the remote to adjust settings. Good value for the money, and would purchase again. Great for sound enhancement, not for trying to vibrate your license plate off your trunk.

Decent Sub Woofer (at full volume)

Decent sub woofer but no ground-pounder. It is always hard to review something like this because so many things can affect the results you get. How's your radio... where did you mount the Sub... how did you mount it... what is YOUR idea of good base and what is the quality of the music you are playing? For me, I replaced the stock Bose system in a C4 Corvette convertible with a JVC KW-HDR81BT head unit pushing 12" oval kicker speakers. Now, for small cars like mine, there is not a ton of room in the speaker cubbyholes for the sound to resonate (especially for the low tones) so I wanted to add a little more support for the low end without overdoing it and thought this would fit the bill. Now before I bought this Sub I wanted to make sure that my radio was capable of pumping out decent base so I borrowed my 400 Watt home entertainment system Sub Woofer and piped the JVCs SUB signal through it. Lets say that the neighbors were NOT as happy with the results as I was in confirming that my radio had more than enough guts while I listened to "Long Cool Women in a Black Dress" whose base-thumps bulged my garage windows. So... I went ahead and purchased this unit knowing that my radio or the way I had configured it would not be a weak point. The results of my install for this Sub? Well... long story short, this unit does add more depth to the base end but I honestly expected just a bit more. When I say "a bit more", I mean that I wish I could overdrive the base just a little with this unit cranked to max volume and be forced to back off a little to get a comfortable sound level. As it is, I have to leave it pretty much at full volume to have it perform at an acceptable level. As a long time electronics engineer and troubleshooter I hate the idea of running any electrical device at near 100% for reasons of device longevity. Now, remember that I had already tested my radio and cables so I ( and my neighbors) knew what my radio is capable of so the "limiting" factor is this Sub Woofer and not my setup. I was able to improve things a bit by moving the Sub from the rear of the cargo bay to behind the drivers seat but I still need to drive this Sub pretty hard. The nice thing about having a separate Sub Woofer is that you can adjust the mid and treble tones so they can stand on their own without trying to give some of their space to the low tones. Thats a big plus. All that said, This Sub Woofer DOES to an acceptable job and I am not all that dissatisfied it's just the -near 100% volume thing- that concerns me a bit.

Did exactly what I needed!!

I’d been thinking about installing a sub for a while but wasn’t sure if I would get the results I wanted, I didn’t think it would be as simple as it ended up being! It was really easy to install, I have no experience of this kind and it didn’t take me long to get my head around. Really brought out the lower end of my music, the bass is so much richer! Isn’t going to bust your windows but it’s perfect if your set up sounds a bit flat like mine did! I fitted it into a 2014 Fiat Doblo Van, using an aftermarket Sony Head Unit, was really easy. Depending on how you’re wiring it up you might want to order/buy a RCA wire as it doesn’t come with a long one. All In all would definitely recommend!

I have read many reviews most positive some negative. I have had many cars running 12 subs some running two 12 subs and I missed that extra bass lacking in my upgraded SUV speakers I just installed. Did not want to loose the space for subs in the car so researched the slimline subs and went for this unit. Verdict....they are not a replacement for 12 inch subs BUT my god they are close. I was very impressed with the sound generated, way better then I was expecting for a small compact unit, I would highly recommend one or two of these units and placed under your seat they take up no room and provide a much needed addition to the lack of lower bass that you cannot get with 6.5 speakers. If you want bass that's going to blow the windows out of your car then this isn't for you.If however, you want to round out the bottom end of your music and take some of the strain off your door speakers this fits the bill nicely. I put this in a Transit Custom that I had already upgraded the door speakers on along with plenty of sound deadening. The mid bass was fine, but the very bottom end was still lacking. This little unit has cured that problem very nicely. It took about an hour and a half to install but I did dismantle the lower part of the dash to route the cables where I wanted them. You can find it cheaper online but I wanted it that day, you pay your money you make your choice. Worth the extra for the convenience in my opinion.

Bought to install in an 80's VW, to partner upgraded factory size 4x6 speakers by JBL and Kenwood head unit. Before this unit the bass when driving was almost inaudible. Installed at the front, this provides bass response at least comparable or better than F30 BMW 3 series with under seat woofers, certainly more volume. Build quality is excellent, feels like a very solid piece of equipment and well finished, no buzz or rattles. Installation is very easy with supplied harness though if using low level RCA outputs (red and white sockets) you need to buy an appropriate RCA cable separately. Cannot fault sound quality and very easy to dial in to balance with existing full range speakers with the supplied remote control though control is a bit cheap feeling and cable is long and bulky. Would be good to be able to set up levels and unplug remote, keeping those settings but unplugging remote returns levels to default. Best to set up and tuck the remote out of the way with cable tied up beside sub or if possible, use head unit settings and leave remote. Quick hint for new sub users: this gives some thump but is really a good foundation for tuneful full range bass sound, not ideal for vibrating windows. When setting levels up, less is often more. Criticism elsewhere of distortion when turned up to full gain is not valid, any equipment is subject to this issue if improperly set up. Overall, really surprising performance for the price and size. If you need to fill out the sound from small/ bass light factory speakers, this is unbeatable. Am impressed and will buy again in the same circumstances.

Only just installed this unit into my sons car. Its always fiddly when there's wires involved and getting to the right ones can be quite a headache, but this unit cables are clearly marked and of good length so with some patience all cables were laid in around an hour. Unit working within 2 hours and pretty impressed with the quality of sound. Now going to have get another one for son No 2!!

Connect the remote if you want ( I did to begin with but found that I kept using one setting so set that on the head unit and disconnected the remote ). The sound is excellent. My head unit is 50 watts x 4 RMS the sub Is 150 watts and you can set the volume independently to get the right sound for taste. The sub gets warm to the touch, that is normal, but not hot, so don't worry. One caution. If you use the remote and set the sub volume to max, it is also possible to set the sub volume to max on the head unit which boosts output further. If you were playing heavy bass sounds at high overall volume you might damage it. Overall this is a very easy unit to install and for the money makes a fantastic difference. The sub is quite small and tucks under seats or you could ( like me ) fit it to the rear door. The remote is fun but if your head unit supports a sub then you may find it is easier to use that to set the sound. I would imagine in a smaller car it would be really quite loud.
