This sub hits harder than a severance package. For a slim woofer it hits exactly like it should with a good amp. It makes me a better dad and husband. My only grip is that I bought refurbished, assuming it was going to be back to factory specs. The sub is great but the box is fairly beat up. Mildly annoying but I don’t see it don’t really care. But still a bit annoying. Would buy again for price to value.

I ordered the *refurbished* Kicker 48TRTP122. It arrived in like new condition a little more than a week later. I installed it in the trunk of a 2017 Toyota Prius (midsized hatchback). Connected it to a 1000+ watt RMS amp (600+ watts @ 2ohms). But only run the sub at 2-300 watts. I believe the ratings on this sub box to be accurate. There's a lot of output without a lot of power running to it. It does play down to 25hz nicely. It effortlessly plays louder than the factory mids and highs. I've got the mids and subs crossed over at 50hz and mixed to taste. The car's mids play down to 45hz. This Kicker sub box has added all the low end I want and can do much more than I want. I chose this sub and the amp for power efficiency and effectiveness without putting any strain ... MoreI ordered the *refurbished* Kicker 48TRTP122. I purchased in Sep 2023 and writing this review 3/5/24. After 6 months... I use this with a Kenwood DMX7709S receiver and a Kenwood eXcelon X802-5 channel amp with 500 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms to power this Kicker 12 inch 2 ohms enclosure. I had this professionally installed and tuned. I don't want to damage any speakers so I play up to 69% to 70% of max volume. This is primarily due to the sound clipping from the source receiver at the higher volumes. At such volumes the speakers may become damaged. I also may reduce the volume if I hear any signs of distortion and/or clipping. For example Macklemore's The Heist Album has high bass levels and may require me to reduce the volume to prevent damage. So far, its nothing but bass shaking my body fun! This may be the right sub enclosure if you want bass heavy rap, rock or heavy metal instead of classical.

Been installing car audio for 30 years, Kicker has always been a trusted brand. However, this compact sub did not come close to expectations. Installed this into a small hatchback and powered it with a Rockford Fosgate 250 watt RMS mono (2 ohm) amplifier. The 500 watt RMS Kicker compact sub was exceeding its own excursion limits with the 250 watt amplifier! Amp gains were set using the SMD-1 so everything was clean. Even adjusted the amp gain down to about 35%, over excursion minimized but the sound quality and overall output of the enclosure was very disappointing. We took the kicker enclosure out of the vehicle and replaced it with a small micro enclosure wed build a while back. The micro enclosure houses two small massive audio 6.5 subs (300 watt RMS total). ... MoreBeen installing car audio for 30 years, Kicker has always been a trusted brand. We took the kicker enclosure out of the vehicle and replaced it with a small micro enclosure wed build a while back. The micro enclosure houses two small massive audio 6.5 subs (300 watt RMS total). Needless to say the two little 6.5 subs blew the kicker away in sound quality and performance, and we were able to adjust the amplifier gains back up with no issues. From this experience, I would not recommend this compact subwoofer, especially not for $300! There are much better sounding and performing subs out there that you can make to fit small footprints and most are less than $300. I cant describe how disappointed I am in this kicker enclosure, I expected a lot more from you Kicker! Take my advice, if you absolutely have to have the kicker 47TRTP122, it is more like a 150 watt RMS enclosure for clean sound, and with that said, youll have to install it in a very small vehicle to hear it. Shame on you Kicker!!
This thing bumps! Im running 800 (true) watts at 2 ohms. Doesnt take up much space at all in my trunk. Very happy with it. First time using kicker. Im a JL audio fan. What got my interest was the design with the baffle is very smart. And its so compact. Great job Kicker!
Nice box, good sound. 4 stars because it did not fit vehicle as well as I thought. The website said it was compatible with a 2010 Chevy Silverado, but doesnt fit (speakers touch floor) when centered in back seat over the hump. It fits on one driverside only. If you dont care about taking up usable floor space in your crew cab, or like me and are "ok" with it being on one side. I tool the rubber feet, that are supposed to be on all four corners, and double stacked them on the low side by door. One side is on the hump amd the other on the rubber feet, doubled up. They sound great for 12", but thos will depend on ypur amp and the tuning of the amp. They thump if you get the peripheral equipment figured out.
I installed this in my 1999 Ford F250 Superduty extended cab. There isn't much space for a subwoofer enclosure and this item fit very nicely. It gives me the bass boost I like and makes my entire sound system sound crisp and balanced.. The remote knob it came with is great because I can easily adjust the amount of bass from one song to another.I love classic rock but many of those songs don't have enough bass. With the remote bass knob I can adjust it on the fly.
I'll be totally honest, I was so excited when I first got this. I installed a 500.1 JL Audio amp to my toyota tacoma for this sub. Plugged my friends L7 12 inch sub into my truck just to make sure we did the wiring correctly and the sub was pumping. But when we hooked up this sub, nothing came out of it. no bass. Checked the knob and everything. It just wouldn't play. I returned it to bestbuy and got a refund at least. Hopefully this was just a dud because I actually love kickers.
This thing sounds amazing!!!!!!! I finally decided to get a little ump to my system as I have changed our the speakers and the factory radio. Now I am not the type that needs everyone to hear me coming I just wanted it to kick and kicker sure didn't for me. For the pricepount, this thing is incredible. It is well worth the money. I had Best Buy installed dot and they did it in less than 2 hours. Dan is the man. I would buy this item 10 times over.
