Kiehl's - Ultra Facial Cleanser - For All Skin Types (75ml/2.5oz)

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser is a soft, gentle foaming cleanser with squalane, vitamin e, and avocado oil. For my skin, which is normal/combo, it works well to cleanse and remove makeup with stripping or drying my skin. It doesn’t make my skin feel oily or greasy, either. This also contains benzoic acid which is really good for safeguarding skin’s healthy, natural bacteria. Especially if you are using skin agents like tretinoin or an antibiotic gel, benzoic acid is great for protecting the natural skin barrier. A good all rounder

This is a great, everyday face wash. I use this when I haven't been wearing makeup or when I just want a quick cleanse. It's quick and effective. I typically hate face washes because they can get quite messy in the sink with water splashing everywhere, so sometimes I use a wet flannel to wash this off which also gently exfoliates. I really like this product, but I don't think I'd ever buy it full price. The packaging means I sometimes accidentally squeeze too much out (but maybe that's my own clumsiness) and also I just don't think it's worth 20 odd quid. Saying that, if and when I have a £5 off at SpaceNK, this is one of the products I will buy as it makes me feel better I'm getting something that genuinely works and is practical, and the discount makes it worth ... MoreThis is a great, everyday face wash. A must have cleansing routine.

I have combination skin. This product is the only one that has worked for me. I've used this cleanser for years now. It does not dry my skin at all and it removes all impurities. Our skins are not the same we all have unique conditions and what works for some might not for others. Give it a chance. Over the years I have had so many people ask my cleansing routine and commented on the subtle/smooth appearance of my face. I use it every night to cleanse and could not go without it. Excellent product.

Changed formula

This product used to be fantastic! It was one of the few cleansers that didn't dry out my skin or turn it red after washing (and trust me, I searched extensively!) Recently, I bought a new bottle - and to my surprise, found my skin was turning red and dry again. What?! I checked the ingredients, and they've changed them - it's now the same cocamidopropyl betaine / alcohol cleanser that all other major brands produce. What made this cleanser unique and good for sensitive skin is now gone. So disappointing! Now I have to start looking all over again.

Hydrating and gentle cleanser

This is my first time buying a product from this brand. I bought the mini cleanser because I was looking for a face wash that is hydrating. I have combination skin, pores and texture and eczemaskin. This product is amazing. After the first wash my skin was hydrated and bouncy. It did not cause redness or oily mess or anything irritating. I’m very happy with this formula. I tried so many face washes from Sephora and other stores and this is by far the best cleanser.

I want my SLES!

Ultra Facial Cleanser has been recently reformulated (in early 2024) to remove sodium laureth sulfate (SLES). SLES is a highly effective and safe cleanser that geriatric hippies arbitrarily decided was "bad", without any scientific evidence at all. As a result of this woo-woo campaign, Kiehls decided to replace SLES with a dramatically less effective ingredient. I have been buying and using Ultra Facial Cleanser for 20 years, but the SLES-free version is so entirely inferior to the original that I am now looking for a replacement. Why is Kiehls catering to the absurd anti-science SLES mob? I don't know, but it has cost them my business.

Instantly dried my skin completely out

I love Kiehl's products, so when I was in the market for a new facewash, I started with this one. I have combination skin but it has been fairly under control lately. I used this wash one time, at night, after using cleansing oil to take my makeup off. After, i used my thick night time moisturizer. When i woke up in the morning, my entire face was flaking off, even in my normally oily T-zone area. It took almost a week to revive my skin from not using the cleanser and giving my skin some extra TLC. Had to return.

NOT a gentle cleanser!

I never write reviews but felt compelled to this time in case it helps someone else. I bought this cleanser because it was advertised as being good for all skin types, including dry, sensitive skin. But within 3 days of using twice a day I started to get this terrible burning sensation in the middle of my face with red patches and little bumps resembling dermatitis around my mouth. I looked at other reviews and apparently others have experienced the same thing. Also kicking myself for not looking at the ingredients before purchasing, because one of the first ingredients is sodium laureth sulfate! Definitely not for sensitive skin! Returning for sure.

New formulation is subpar, very disappointing

New formulation is awful! I have loved his product for years! It use to be a thick clear gel with a great foaming on water contact and a fresh smell. It lasted forever. I bought 2 (the small and large size) two weeks ago and the formulation had changed (compared it to the ingredients on my previous bottle I bought in early 2024 and it is formulayoo) and the quality is GREATLY diminished. It’s now thin (so you have to use more), a weird pearl color, does not foam very well, the smell is no longer a fresh smell. It’s basically low quality drug store face soap at a luxury price. I am deeply disappointed in Luxury brands I trust, recommend, and fan girl’s for years, lower their standards with subpar reformulations to keep profit margins.. It makes me sad. Some confusion going on

There seems to be some confusion going around with the recent formula change, it would be nice to have more of an indicator that this happened. The version I have is the old one with SLES (Sodium Laureth Sulfate) listed as the second ingredient, which worked wonderfully, was gentle and removed my makeup. Didn't irritate my skin or eyes at all. Some people are commenting that this product contains SLS, it doesn't, as SLES is not the same as SLS. Sephora's website now lists Glycerin as the second ingredient, so I'm hesitant to order another bottle. It's unclear if this is a mistake in the ingredient list to not, since Kiehl's website still lists the same ingredients that are on the bottle I have.
