Kilner Coffee Grinder

I wanted to love this grinder, but it has one obvious drawback and one issue that surprised me. First there is no lid or cover, so as you are grinding the beans easily jump out over the rim of the vessel, usually flying across the room or spilling onto the floor or counter top. The second issue that is the bigger problem is the the screw cap the is supposed to hold the handle in place is not properly fitted so it does;t really screw on, it just spins and stays loosely attached temporarily. Because it doesn't screw on properly the cap is constantly popping off while grinding and sometimes it gets lost down in the beans or sometimes I have to crawl around on the floor to recover it. (It's as though they were not made for each other, the shaft that it needs to screw onto has a slightly rectangular shape and the screw cap is round inside). Anyway, I gave it a 3 star rating because it does grind well when it stays together, and I am usually able to get it to work if I am careful with it.

Excellent little machine, grinds coffee beans beautifully. More satisfying to use rather than an electric grinder, and comes with its own airtight jar! Wonderful!

At first glance I thought the grinding gears were plastic, but on further inspection I realized they were ceramic, which might be why this coffee grinder is a bit spendy. The good news is, you can also grind salt in it if you wanted to. Fully adjustable from the finest powder to a very coarse grind. Of course, the finer your setting the longer you will be grinding. The handle has sharp edges that may snag your finger or finger nail as you grind. I took my knife sharpening steel to round off the sharp edge and no longer have that problem; a file or honing stone would work well in just a couple passes. Honestly, not a big deal, but it would have been nice is the manufacturer had run the parts through a tumbler. The top bowl holds about a half cup of beans. I recommend holding the grinder down on your counter top while grinding to prevent the beans from flying all over the place. Great for spices such as cloves and all spice.
