A free upgrade of diagnostic software maybe required out of the box. This will require a MS Windows computer.You will need to provide power to the device for it to work, USB from car, power brick , PC or phone is sufficient.
I needed a product that would work with my Toyota Land Cruiser 200 Series GXL. I was sceptical at first, but the more expensive Bosch alternative was not available, so took this one instead. It turns out that it works a treat! Good value and does the job that one would expect.
Scanner was used to identify and reset a code on my Mitsubishi SUV. Very easy to use. Supercheap had it ready and waiting to collect in no time.

The OBD2 scanner connects to car but sometimes you have to turn the ignition to the first or second position of the ignition for scanner to connect to your car. If all else fails, disconnect scanner totally and reconnect. Turn ignition position to either first or second position and keep trying. It will connect with trial and error. But it’s a great scanner with a screen that displays function icons like a Microsoft Windows display. Makes it user friendly and diagnostic graphic display at real time is cool and fun to observe how your car is responding and collects data even while you’re driving with the OBD2 connected. Poor product. Waste of money. Only detected VIN No. of 2013 Ford Territory when vehicle was in limp mode with live fault!!Ended up returning for refund.Very frustrating.
This OBD reader does everything it's supposed to do and does it well. Colour screen is easy to read and unit boots-up quickly and reliably eavery time it's plugged in (some of the cheaper "no frills" units I've used in the past take a long time to interface with the vehicles computer & communicate). No complaints on this one!
Bought this, this morning to fix the code on the Jeep GC Trailhawke. Worked like a dream, fixed the codes, car no longer in limp mode. Very happy with it…We had to drive an hour each way to find a shop with one.
