Spicy and delicious! I love this Mackarel brand. The fish smells and tastes delicious right out the can. I usually add them to crackers with just a touch of vinegar for bite. The jalapeño flavor isn’t overwhelming but is a pleasant bit of heat. Mine had two small slices in the can. I would recommend.

Expensive, but better than most tinned fish

First of all, let me start by saying, that if you prefer your fish not to taste "fishy"--you're not gonna like this. Even fresh mackeral is an oily, strong flavored fish, and canned fish tends to be cat food strong at least in smell. I wouldn't bring this to any workplace for lunch unless you really, really hate your co-workers and you plan on leaving anyway, but you want to make sure to stink up the refrigerator and break room first. Having said that, fresh mackeral is one of my favorite fish to eat. Naturally canned mackeral won't taste anything like fresh, anymore than canned salmon or tuna tastes like the fresh variety. I bought this because I am a big fan of King Oscar's delicious and equally fishy sardines. However, I did like it well enough, and the texture of the fish was definitely firmer and not at all watery like many other canned fishes. It made a nice snack with crackers--some quick, easy to eat protein. And it gets extra points for having a lid that is relatively easy to open. Hate those lids with the pull tabs that always seem to break off!

This is some of the most delicious canned fish I've ever had. I can be very hard to get, either locally or online so I was very happy to find it here. The lemon flavor is excellent with the mackerel, the fish itself is buttery and the ingredients are simple and natural. I can only hope that availability improves so I feel less inclined to hoard multiple cans. I like most of King Oscar's products but this one is a true standout!

USES: as a side dish for rice and noodle dishes.COLOUR: dark brown.TASTE: salty.TEXTURE: crumbled small pieces of fillet.PRODUCT ORIGIN: USA.WHY POOR: broken pieces of mackerel fillet, not whole fillet. Not tasty. Very expensive for this quality.MY EXPERIENCE: I poured it over hot cooked rice. Yet, the rice tasted very salty. The label showed 300mg sodium. There was no taste of herbs of Provence and no red bell peppers or black olives. Will not buy again.

Seriously this is the best mackerel out there. We absolutely love it. The flavor is great, well packed the ingredients are top quality. Full of beneficial omega 3. It is a great seafood addition to your diet. The size is perfect to use as a single serving package. There is no fishy smell.

prefer their sardines
5 August 2023

King Oscar has been consistently delivering quality canned fish for me — no fishy smell and clean-tasting. But between the sardine and mackerel version of this, I prefer the sardine version as it tastes fresher for me. I take fish like tuna, sardines and mackerel in my diet for the omega-3 and protein. Please like if you found this review helpful, thank you!
