Excellent toaster! Very nice looking but also toasts very well on both sides of the bread. Love the way the automated slice goes down on its own after placing the slices in the slots and that it has the tray to pick up the crumbs. Very handy to have the option to put frozen bread which ensures the toast is well toasted, has the option for bagels and great for grilled cheese sandwiches since it has the item to place the sandwich in; put it in a toaster bag which avoids the butter and cheese from dirtying the toaster. All in all, very satisfied with my purchase — a bit pricy for a toaster but you get what you pay for.

I am a big KitchenAid fan and have several of their appliances so very positive about their products. However the toaster left me a little disappointed as the bread didn't toast evenly on both sides. I sent the first one back as I thought it was perhaps a fault in the machine but the replacement was much the same. I have kept it and have resolved a way to toast with 2 brown sides, turning half way through the time. Hence 4 stars. It has good options for bagels and toast from frozen and is nice looking machine.

Bought for me as a birthday gift to match other appliances. Very stylish item and very heavy, not lightweight materials. No more fiddling about to get toast out as it slowly raises toast when done. Even automatically takes bread in at start. No more pressing levers. Love the additional features such as taking toast back in to keep warm if left. Have tried the toasted sandwich function which is excellent. Just love it! Not an inexpensive item but wouldn’t change it for an alternative model or maker.

First, some good bits - and there are a few.It looks and feels solid and well-built.It toasts things nicely- I have never seen the problems of inconsistent cooking reported here. The automatic loading and lift feature is very cool in a 1960's Gerry Anderson sort of way, albeit unnecessary. The "keep my toast warm" feature is good. Now the bad bits, of which there are also a few:This is my second of these, and both went bad the same way - tripping the power. This is due to the way that crumbs get trapped against the heater element at the bottom of the slots.Guys, what were you thinking? The clever moving cage allows crumbs to fall between the cage and the element, and then traps said crumbs against the element. These then get turned to charcoal if not removed ... MoreFirst, some good bits - and there are a few.It looks and feels solid and well-built.It toasts things nicely- I have never seen the problems of inconsistent cooking reported here. The automatic loading and lift feature is very cool in a 1960's Gerry Anderson sort of way, albeit unnecessary. The "keep my toast warm" feature is good. Now the bad bits, of which there are also a few:This is my second of these, and both went bad the same way - tripping the power. These then get turned to charcoal if not removed immediately, which is conductive- instant short to earth. The slope to the slot out to the crumb tray is not steep enough, trapping more crumbs, the slot is not wide enough, trapping more crumbs, and the tray is not deep enough, surprise, trapping more crumbs.C minus, chaps. Get an engineer to have a look at the design from a user's perspective. My second one has died - I won't be getting another.
The toaster looks smart and the actual body is solid, heavy and stable. However, the knob for grading the extent of toasting and the buttons to select the type of product to be toasted are tinny and cheap, able to wriggle about unless pressed firmly. The effectiveness of toasting is at best, variable. Slices are not all toasted consistently; even a single slice can end up browner on one side than the other and inconsistent on the same side. Small items, such as potato cakes, are difficult to extract after toasting, as they are not lifted high enough by the rack from the top of the toaster. Larger pieces of bread end up with the top untoasted. I have only tried to make a toasted sandwich once, and the ‘no leak’ rack failed, some cheese ran out onto the crumb tray. ... MoreThe toaster looks smart and the actual body is solid, heavy and stable. When I attempted to toast two halves of a hot cross bun, I had to cut the top off the risen side as it was too wide for the slot. Overall, I am disappointed. Having paid an extortionate amount of money to buy something to toast my items I fail to see why it is so expensive when the results are often poor. I would give 4 stars for appearance and only one star for performance which is of course the most important thing to review.
Do not buy this toaster. I bought one thinking a £250+ toaster would give me a lifetimes service, and if anything went wrong I could at least pay and get Kitchen Aid UK to repair it. Wrong. Kitchen Aid will repair anything other than toasters out of warranty. Mine has a logic issue with the toasting level and a mechanical issue with the bread transport system. As it may need a new mother board it's now going on the tip. Disgusted with Kitchen Aid.
I have to say it took me a while to decide to buy a KitchenAid toaster as I have always previously had a Dualit toaster which has always been seen as the flagship of toasters especially in the catering world. However I have to say that I am very pleased with my purchase it seems much heavier duty in terms of weight and guage of metal of the casing and the mechanism operates smoothly and toasts quite evenly. The smooth operation of taking down into the toaster the bread and then releasing it may not be necessary but is a silent and seems to be a better quality and the returning of toast into the toaster to keep it warm is a very clever little addition. The inclusion of a sandwich toasting metal holder is also useful. So far all has work perfectly!!
We are on our second toaster. The first was replaced within the 5 year warranty . The second has lasted 5 years and we have been informed that as we are now over the original 5 years they don't want to know . It's an expensive product that can't be repaired .At this price I would expect the appliance to last more than 5 years . Our son's cheap uni toaster lasted longer and at a fraction of the cost . The customer care support is poor . Think carefully about buying this brand .
Although this toaster is very very expensive it's exactly what we wanted in our new kitchen. We already have the matching kettle. The toaster makes the same noise as the kettle when you put bread etc. into it. It automatically lowers the toast guide into the toaster and away it goes! The keep warm function is a genius idea as I like my toast to be hot. I can't tell you how many times I've had to put it back into previous toasters only to forget it and have to start over. My only bit of feedback is that there is no option to 'lift' the toast guide up higher than it comes automatically. This means things like hot cross buns remain low down inside the toaster. You then need to unplug it from the wall and use silicone tongs to get them out. The KitchenAid review site will not let me post a review which mentions a competitor. I get a 'profanity' warning. We haven't had the KitchenAid toaster long enough to comment on its longevity.Having used another toaster for years, I will obviously compare the KitchenAid toaster with it. I haven't used the KitchenAid toaster for anywhere near as long, but so far, in my opinion, the other is superior, for the following reasons:1. Even on maximum brownness setting, the KitchenAid does not toast bread as brown as I would like it. There is no 'toast for a bit longer' button, so I have to re-toast the toast at a lower brownness setting. This is irritating in itself, and also led to a lot of burnt toast as I was experimenting with different settings.2. Related to the above, there is no way to check on how brown the toast currently is. If you think the toast is about to burn, you can cancel the operation, but you can't then continue from where you left off if the toast is not yet brown enough - you have to start a new toast cycle. The manual up/down lever on the other toaster makes it easy to lift the toast, have a quick look, and continue if necessary.3. Probably a niche usage, but the other toaster allowed 'one and a half' slice toasting. (Set for one slice, but put bread in both slots. This toasted one slice as normal, but only one side of the slice in the second slot.) I found this perfect for toasted sandwiches - pile ingredients on the fully toasted slice, place the half toasted slice toasted side down on top, and finish under the grill. I can't do this with the KitchenAid toaster. The KitchenAid is a stylish, well built toaster, and chimes nicely when the toast cycle finishes (no indication with the other). It looks good in the kitchen, especially with other KitchenAid appliances, but judged purely on practical terms as a machine for toasting, it is not as good as another.
