Absolute shame for the money

Loved it initially, it has a strong motor and the base appears to be built solid. The honeymoon ends 1-2 years into having it. KitchenAid appliances do not last. I had the immersion blender replaced in warranty because it broke, same goes for older model of this blender where the motor mount broke, and now I'm on hold by customer service for this one as something started smoking, ruined my recipe and the entire kitchen stinks like melted plastic. For such an expensive appliance and for the name it carries, this is just unacceptable. I am using these appliances once in a blue moon and I'd like them to work. Can't imagine what would happen if I used them daily. If they don't handle this within my warranty, I will never ever buy a single KitchenAid thing in my life again.

An amazing alternative to my old Vitamix

As a (now former) Vitamix (VM) user for the past 14 years, we were disillusioned with the quality and performance of the VM. As experienced and inventive cooks, the VM had been a very expensive purchase that we had splurged on mainly for the quality of the smoothies, and its ability to do things like grind nut butters or powder pure organic large-crystal cane sugar for candies or icings. So those were some of the primary things we were looking for in a new blender. After a significant amount of research, it seemed that only the KitchenAid had every feature we wanted and was well-rated. We gave it a shot, and are beyond pleased; this blender is a kitchen megastar. For those in the same situation, looking to replace a high-end blender but not spend a fortune, you should give the K400 serious consideration. Here are the standout points:• Solid, 1200-watt motor (1.6hp as opposed to VM’s 2hp – little noticeable difference)• Excellent container action/flow• Container is easy to handle and clean• Has a tamping tool, vital for nut butters, smoothies• Superior ice-crushing ability• Super-smooth pureeing for silky smoothies, soups• Intelligent presets for various blending tasks• Quieter operation than VM• Dressier appearance than Vitamix, and more color options• Less than half the price of a VitamixSomething the K400 doesn’t claim is to “cook” things, which is fine with us; every time we had tried to make hot items using the VM’s high speed to create heat, it produced an off, mildly bitter flavor that tasted like the smell of burned motor oil. Cooking isn’t a feature we needed from the K400, so all good. While the capacity is about 8 oz. less than the VM model we had, we find the K400's capacity every bit as useful. The K400 produces commercial-grade smoothies and shakes, and we found that even with seedy fruits like raspberries, the consistency is smoother than we were getting in the VM. The ice-crushing ability is impressive, perfect for frozen drinks or shave ice treats depending on how long you blend. Because of the excellent container flow due to the asymmetrical blade positioning, we have found it easier to achieve perfect powdered sugar in less time with the KitchenAid – with absolutely no graininess or off flavors. Same for nut butters. We made a smooth almond butter that was absolutely perfect for truffles and I appreciated the ability to empty the container of the nut butter more readily than the VM. And the functional presets for things like crushing ice, blending smoothies and making frozen drinks are intelligently programmed and very useful. One of the few drawbacks of this beautiful machine (and it’s not a dealbreaker) is the the markings on the speed control. They are so light that they are hard to read. This is mainly a problem while getting familiar with the machine, but you may find yourself requiring a flashlight to see the icons clearly until you memorize their placement. One other small peeve I have is that this blender (like the VM) doesn’t have a removable base for cleaning – you must clean the container by hand and using the clean feature – but this is more a matter of physics for high-horsepower machines such as these, as removable bases present an opportunity for leakage that an all-one-piece container doesn’t. Finally, due to the speed and torque created by this blender, it’s not one I’d turn on and walk away from. The formed base is situated shallowly enough in the motor well that I’d never feel comfortable with anything less than a hand atop the lid to keep things steady – the container can rock a bit when crushing ice or frozen fruit – but again, not a dealbreaker. We love the performance of this machine.Overall, the K400 is a workhorse that, at less than half the price of a Vitamix, gives all the performance we expected and looks far more elegant on the countertop.I was not compensated for this review.

I give this product a one star review because after a year, the blender is unusable. I purchase a k400 blender Nov 2021. It worked great for a year. Nov 2022 the blender started to leak a brown metallic substance from the bottom of the blade assembly and now unusable. I read thru the previous reviews and others have the same issue. They were told to call KitchenAid. I did, several times and I got nowhere. I have been on hold for over two hours several times trying to speak to a live person. Nothing. I sent two emails thru their system, nothing. I tried to use the chat feature. It doesn’t work. Maybe this review will force someone to reach out directly to me. We like the blender, attempting to get a replacement jar has been terrible.

Very impressed that Harts delivered this to me less than two days after ordering. The blender is robust and I can use it with confidence that it won't leak or explode! Although very sturdy, it is not quite as heavy as I expected (nothing like my compact Magimix food processor). Two cut out sections for your fingers at the base help when lifting it. (A delicate elderly person might find it more difficult.)I thought that the self-cleaning function might be a bit of a gimmick but it works brilliantly and I can see that I will use it even more because of this.It is early days in terms of trying it out but it produced a velvety celery soup so I think it will cope with most things. Finally, I love the warm honey colour. Bring on the Autumn soup-making season!

Fantastic product, it manages to work its way through all ice products we’ve tried to date, the preset functions work extremely well, especially the very handy wash function, only exception we have found sometimes are berry seeds remain stuck but you can put it in the dishwasher with ease. It’s a bit of a mindset change to spend this sort of money but we glad we have and only did due to buying the toaster. Both of which sit on the kitchen top as they are aesthetically pleasing. As a family we have used it a lot for smoothies during this hot summer. Will continue to for soups in the winter, hopefully these will be as successful. The only observation we have is it is quite noisy but as it completes tasks so quickly, this is a niggle we overlay. The first KitchenAid Artisan K400 Blender received had to be returned due to the extraordinary loud (rattling) noise it made, a faint yet noticeable burning smell when in operation ...and it's failure to accomplish its much vaulted ability to blend pips and the like in fruit. The second example which was kindly (and very expeditiously) sent out by HoS Customer Service is still very loud, but a far bit quieter. It's blending ability seemingly much improved too! This blender was a gift and it's undoubtedly a lovely looking item to have on one's kitchen counter. I would gladly purchase more items from them in the future, and will heartily recommend them to friends & family alike.

My old blender broke so I wanted to upgrade as I use it daily: enter the KitchenAid K400!I primarily was looking for a stylish black matte blender I could keep out on my limited kitchen bench space (and that blended into my black tiles), while being able to make thick smoothies for my daily smoothie bowl. This hit everything I wanted and is even quieter than my old one!I love it and am glad I decided to buy this over some other blenders I was comparing with. It's also really pretty even though I went a very understated black.I use it daily for blending frozen berries/bananas/milk etc. if that makes it helpful for someone deciding to purchase.Only negative thing I've found so far is accessories are add-ons, so if you want a smaller jug, you will need to pay ... MoreMy old blender broke so I wanted to upgrade as I use it daily: enter the KitchenAid K400!I primarily was looking for a stylish black matte blender I could keep out on my limited kitchen bench space (and that blended into my black tiles), while being able to make thick smoothies for my daily smoothie bowl.
