Beware of the pot guard attachment!

Pros: This immersion blender is incredible. For years I had a cheaper version made of mostly plastic. Th stainless steal is very durable and easily whips up the creamiest mashed cauliflower or blends soups. The blade is easy to clean and I like the variable speeds. The button is also easy enough to press and in a good location that makes it comfortable to use. The cons: this blender came with an attachment to help protect your pots and pans from scratching. I attached it as directed and went on to use it in my enamel pot. As I was blending my soup (which was nearly done) I felt the blade hit something. When I stopped the blade and lifted it out of the pot, I noticed the guard had come off. The blades from the blender nicked the guard leaving behind shards of plastic ... MorePros: This immersion blender is incredible. For years I had a cheaper version made of mostly plastic. I purchased this when the motor in my Cuisinart hand blender (which I loved) stopped after 7 plus years. I just knew I was upgrading with this being a “Kitchenaid” but I couldn’t purée even the softest of foods without it turning off within seconds of blending and that’s not even the frustrating part. The frustrating part is that you can’t turn it back on. You literally have to wait like 10 or more minutes before you can use it again. I love how it looks but its functionality is awful. I highly do not recommend this product.

Powerful & Easy to Use

I am truly blown away by the power of this hand mixer. KitchenAid has brought true quality and convenience to a kitchen gadget that is often taken for granted. The mixer has no problem pulverizing small pieces of ice into snow, but it is limited by what can fit into the blade's housing. This means that for smoothies, frozen strawberries (or other large frozen fruits) must first be cut into smaller pieces before they are blended up. If ice is added, crushed ice is best. But, if the blade can reach it - it will be chopped up with ease. The shape of the blade (along with the strategic housing windows) actually pulls liquid in towards the blade which helps to blend effectively. But, if the blade can reach it - it will be chopped up with ease. The shape of the blade (along with the strategic housing windows) actually pulls liquid in towards the blade which helps to blend effectively. This is a tremendous help with blending soups and sauces. And to help protect non-stick pans from being scratched, the mixer comes with a protective guard that clips over the end of the tool. The scratch guard doesn't have a particularly snug fit, but it serves its intended purpose and is an nice addition.I love that KitchenAid pays attention to the finer details. For example, the base/motor is designed to attach to the lower blending rod in nearly any position (see attached pictures). You don't need to rotate to find a specific latching position, simply slide the rod up and lightly twist an it always pops securely into place. The only pain point is the weight and that the trigger must be held down to provide power to the blade. If you have a lot of blending to do, you'll need to build up some hand and forearm strength. I do like being able to regulate the speed/power by adjusting how far I squeeze the "trigger", but it would be nice to be able to lock it into place so that it stays on without the need for the user to continually squeeze - But, I understand that this may be dangerous.Overall this exceeded every one of my expectations. I even love the mixing cup that comes with the device. It has a small rubber ring in the base that barely protrudes from the bottom, but does a spectacular job at ensuring the bottom of the cup doesn't slip while it is in use. I absolutely recommend this hand mixer! It is absolutely excellent for shakes, smoothies, sauces, and soups!

The cup is not microwaive safe
26 March 2023

the blender itself is great, I really enjoy using it. The problem is the cup. Most of the recepies with chocolate require you to heat the chocolate first to make it liquid and I thought to microwave it directly in the plastic cup instrad of microwaving chocolate in a separate bowl and then transfering it to the cup. But turns out the cup is not microwave safe, it melted and almost started a fire. I know tgat I was supposed to read the description first to make sure it's not microwave safe, but nowadays almost all plastic dishes, containers, cups, etc are microwave safe so it was a big surprise to me.

Use this immersion blender for everything.
16 December 2022

This is a great quality product. So much easier to put this right into a pan on stove compared to all the bowls and utensils needed to transfer to blender, put in new bowl, back in pot etc. also, brilliant little plastic attachment that protects the bottom of pans! Helps you avoid that stainless on stainless scratching sound. And also means you can use this tool on a non stick pan. Love it. Can’t believe I haven’t owned one before now.

Very handy tool!
22 September 2020

This KitchenAid hand blender is a handy little tool to have at the ready! When opening this hand blender I noticed the same characteristic I have seen every other KitchenAid product that I have used have and that is heavy duty quality. This did not feel cheap like they skipped out on materials or build quality at all. It feels solid in your hand despite being a small kitchen appliance. Latching the blending arm to the motor feels like a very secure connection and there is no play at all. The button also feels precise and smooth, again not cheap feeling at all. I also love the convenient sized blending cup the blender came with, it was the perfect size for the family to make milkshakes in. I also love the convenient sized blending cup the blender came with, it was the perfect size for the family to make milkshakes in. I also appreciated the plastic bumper to put around the base of the blending arm to not scratch or damage what you are blending in. It's the little things like that that a manufacturer like KitchenAid thinks of. I used this in my big pot of pasta sauce and regularly touched the bottom and sides and not a single scratch to be found. Our milkshakes came out very good, but a different texture than what I was expecting. I do not fault the machine because I think I just didn't know what I was doing yet. I was very satisfied though when it came to mixing the pasta sauce with the meat and other added ingredients. It mixed it up with ease and the texture afterward was great. I think this item can be great for making smoothies or other drinks, baby foods, and definitely for cooking purposes! I can see myself using this more so for cooking because it is such a small but handy tool to use, and cleanup is a breeze. Its not like I have to dig out a big appliance and clean up a bunch of pieces later. Overall I highly recommend this hand blender, this may not be a kitchen appliance that everyone will use regularly, but it is one that everyone should have because when the job arises for it, it will handle it with ease and make the task easier for you!

Very well designed, powerful and easy to use!
21 January 2023

Love it! I had a cheap one for many years with a plastic base and didn't scratch pots and pans. It did a great job but eventually wore out so I replaced it with another big brand but I hated it because of an unlock feature on the button to operate. As soon as I had the opportunity (on sale and BB points) I was thrilled to order this one. Also love the tip from another review of how to wrap the cord around the handle for neat and tidy storage which works perfectly with the design of the handle. I love this hand blender!

hand mixer vs. hand blender
22 July 2023

Read every review of this item before purchasing. There were pros and cons to go around, but I settled on this hand blender and the KitchenAid name due to the quality of my mixer so I took a chance. And I am glad I did. I have yet to experience any cons. Before I was using a hand held mixer over my pot filled with cooking dates to blend them into a creamy filling for my maple date nut bars and even on the lowest speed it splattered. NOT SO this great device. I could easily handle this blending dates in the same pot without splatter. Also, it is lighter and easier to handle which is better for my arthritis. Easy clean up, too.

want an upgraded version
8 March 2023

I had one of these basic versions that worked fine for the occasional task which was broken in a move. We have an offbrand that needs to be replaced as now that i have a baby, i use it all the time…. For everything. I really want and cant believe there’s not one that sits in a countertop charger and looks nice (i have no idea why classic white- not the cheap plastic utilitarian white is not available in a lot of the retro appliances) AND has a frother attachment as well as a high quality blade-all the other stuff it normally comes with. I would pay good money for that. I dont understand how thats not a thing yet. What gives?!
