Klara and The Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro

Very unusual cocept.The main character is a robot but one who has been given the ability to reason and think to aquite a high level. The book is really about different ways of loving. I found it thought provoking and enjoyed reading it.

A modern wonder

A fascinating and unique narrative centred on a AI robot named Klara. This book was different and very immersive. Klara navigates the complexities of human interaction and emotions.

A well baked book

Ishiguro claims to write the same story over and over and with Klara and the Sun, he doesn't disappoint. The story is simple but the message complex - kneeded dough becoming a simple loaf. Pushing the baking metaphor, if ever we forget how to be human, we'll always have Ishiguro's work to remind us how to be well-risen loaves.

AI friendly book

Interesting to look at what is human. I found that not many of the characters were very likeable Lots of talk about AI technology at the moment its probably not far off in fact I seem to remember watching a documentary whereby grown ups were buying life size dolls as companions

Beautiful and tragic

As usual with this author, the subject matter is compelling and thought provoking. It makes you question the ability of the human race to truly be trusted with the responsibilities we generate by our own inventions and supposed needs

Beautiful handling of an interesting topic

I loved this story, beautiful take on the complexity of relationships and how they can't be recreated or forced without the human soul ingredient. Perfectly written and emotional in all the right parts.

Hard to let go novel

The story unfolds through the narrative of Klara, an artificial friend for a girl genetically modified, or 'lifted', to gain academic advantage. Like 'Never Let Me Go', this is an achingly poignant commentary on human nature as revealed through the straightforward and innocent commentary of Klara. Klara's final destination at the end of the novel left me unable to put the book down for several minutes.

Interesting take on the future of A.I.

In a world where A.I. companions can be purchased as playmates for children, we get to experience how a mother and daughter adjust to this new being in their lives. This book confronts strained family relationships, a robot learning how to be human, and humans learning how robots might be of use in the grieving process.This whole book really intrigued me. The premise was great and it was obviously well written especially considering the narrator is a child and a machine.The only reason it wasn’t five stars for me was because some of the metaphors used weren’t completely clear and I had to look up what they were referring to

Ishiguro does it again!

Artificial Friend Klara and Josie's relationship has wide-ranging effects on Josie's family, the neighbours and the wider community. This futuristic tale sheds light on both the good and bad of our own times. A joyous yet haunting story with an inevitable ending that will stay with the reader for a long time.

Solid

This is another dystopian future novel most similar to Never Let Me Go. I liked reading it, was a little bit confused at points until I heard the author interviewed and say it was about the nature of love. Yes! It makes more sense now.A women buys an artificial friend for her seriously ill daughter. The book explores what exactly it is to be human, and how we love others.
