Well... It does crimp RJ-45 connectors pretty darn cleanly, but at the cost that it is, I'd reccomend you get the pass through crimper instead. The ratchet mechanism in this tool DID end up breaking on me, as the spring that holds the ratchet in place came out and I had to return it. You also will need fairly strong hands to get a proper crimp, something that the pass through crimper does not struggle with. This tool will get the job done, it cuts fine, crimps okay, and works, but due to how easy it is to accadently break, and for how much it costs, Im going to have to say either get a cheaper one, use this one carefully, or get the pass through one as it is easier to squeeze and crimp. Also do not turn the ratchet release the wrong direction, you will break it if ... MoreWell... Otherwise, it works fine, takes a bit of practice, and does not overcrimp. 7/10 for me.

I picked up my Klein Crimper since I had misplaced my old crimper. I knew in getting a Klein Tools Crimper I was going to be getting a solid product that would work and work right. Well, I wasn’t wrong! The thing about Klein Tools is they build their stuff right, out of the box it just feels good in your hand. The blades on the stripper portion were very sharp and my first strip was effortless and simple. The bottom line is that it just works! If you’ve ever used a junk crimper you know what a headache it can be. Save yourself the headache - save yourself some money. Go Klein, and go Firefold!

This is one of those tools that you need every once in a while but when you need it, its good to have the best. Purchased a new home, all the cat wires were hanging loose in the basement. Not marked in any way so away i went with this great tool. It cut the shielding around the 6 wires then cut each wire to fit into the cat connector. After doing that i crimped the fitting so the fitting became functional. This one tool allowed me to do all those steps with the level of a professional. This is a must have tool for working cat 5, 6, and more. Well with the cost to do a professional job.

I originally got it to replace my old one. This crimper did the job for the first few times. After a few uses I started noticing it was crimping down all the way. It also doesnt allow for "pass thru" ice cubes. Its not bad for a starter or a diy one time use but it doesnt work the best after we started testing it with the fluke. Had to recrimp some of them a few times. Dont get me wrong, I love Klein but not a fan of their Rj45 Crimper
I 'm using tool on Monoprice Cat 5e unshielded cable. I am new to cable making. 1. The tool drawing in the instructions does not match tool exactly (two pins have reversed orientation). Had to think about which side is which. 2. Cutting the round Cat 5e cable requires that it go in one specific direction or the two flat-cable blades cut into the outer jacket and nick the twisted pairs. Not a big deal once this is figured out, but a note in the instructions would be nice. 3. For the cable I'm using it is very difficult not to nick a twisted pair when stripping the jacket. I am trying to not close handles all the way, but it is difficult to repeat. I must inspect carefully before proceeding. I am trying to not close handles all the way, but it is difficult to repeat. I must inspect carefully before proceeding. Closing handles all the way cuts completely through jacket and almost always nicks a twisted pair. There is no need to "crack" the jacket since the jacket is cut completely through. This is a big problem and makes this feature risky to use. 4. The crimper seems to do a good job. So, from my prescriptive this is a cutting and crimping tool. I will need to find a stripping tool that is less aggressive.Perhaps it is my armature status that is the issue. If so, then a comment on how to avoid the stripping/nicking issue would be appreciated.
I bought this RJ45 crimper to replace a crimper that came in an inexpensive kit that I used for ten years. Unfortunately, the new Klein Tools crimper does not work well. I followed th einstructions carefully. The mechanism that is supposed to lock the crimper in a closed position is not working and i need to use a rubber band. Worse, the crimp quality is uneven and I had to redo the crimps several times. My other Klein tools are top quality and I use them regularly. This one was disappointing. I'll be looking for a different brand.
This tool does not do everything it states to do. Yes it strips outer jacket of ethernet cable, and crimps ends. However it does not cut off the excess wire coming out of the pass through connectors. I did some research after I was having this issue, and it appears that the tool does in fact trim some excess wires but believe it or not it does not do that for the actual Klein pass thru ends that they sell in home depot stores. Yes you read that right the Klein tool doesn't work with the klein ends. I'm usually and advocate for Klein tools and love every other Klein tool I ever have had, but this item miss the target by a mile. Wish I would've went with a different option because without the trim function on this tool it basically makes it worthless to me.
This tool always strips the wire back ~ 7/16" from the cut. There is no way to adjust the distance between the cutting blade and the stripping blade in order to get the correct strip length for the modular connector that you are using. The tool requires that you manually trim the stripped wires to the correct length before you can crimp them in the connector.
The crimper/stripper is made in Taiwan (I thought all Kleins Tools are made in USA). The quality of the build is good.I crimped RJ45 for CAT 5 & 6. The CAT5 jacks were NOT pass-thru types and the tool crimped a perfect RJ45 jack. When I crimped a RJ45 CAT6 pass-thru jack, the crimp was fine. The issue is when I use the cutter to cut the excess wire off the pass-thru, the wire was cut and excess wire remained on the jack. I has to use a utility knife to cut the excess "hang nail" off. The excess wire cause the jack to not make a good connection when plugged into a Ethernet receptacle. The work around after a few trials is to cut the wire in the pass-thru jack first, then pull back the wire until flush with end of the jack, then crimp. If he Klein cutter/crimper ... MoreThe crimper/stripper is made in Taiwan (I thought all Kleins Tools are made in USA). When we moved into our home, we had the builder include data and power in certain locations so we could wall mount a TV and not have any wires showing. Unfortunately the way they went about installing the data outlets was a head scratcher. Originally (see first picture) we had to connect a CAT 5e cable from the blue jack to the brown jack which was roughly 18" above the floor. Then we had to connect another CAT 5e cable from the brown jack that is up high so it could be plugged into the TV.I went to Home Depot and purchased the tool and a CAT 5e in-line coupling. Then I took the lower blue jack and brown jack out of the wall, used this tool to put an RJ45 on each of them then connected them with the in-line coupling. Now the upper jack behind the TV was live and no wires are sticking out anywhere. This was my first time doing anything with data wire but watching YouTube videos and the instructions that comes with the tool made it very straight forward.
