I have owned a lot of speakers over the years. Home theater has been a passion of mine for a long time. For me, I usually find that, unless you spend big big money, floor standing or tower speakers come with a trade off. They either sound great for home theater but only ok for music or great for music but only ok for home theater. That is NOT the case by any means with these speakers. I am so impressed with how well and effortlessly they handle both music and effects. I love all kinds of music, from country and rap to opera and rock. These speakers handle all of those genres very well. The detail and depth is there and, to me, 100% accurate. The highs and mid range are crystal clear and the vocals as well. Every bullet, train passing, explosion and whatever else you can think of sounds so realistic and really makes my jaw drop every time. The look and style is the same is the other speakers in this series, black on black with magnetic grilles and the horn tweeter and copper woofers. Another thing I absolutely love is the ATMOS connectivity. It allows me to connect the ATMOS modules without have to run a separate cable to them. Instead the input is at the bottom and there is an input at the top for the ATMOS modules. This is so nice and makes it easy on the eyes. Overall, very happy with these bad boys!

When paired with a good receiver this set up is sure to open the eyes of those who are on the hunt for a great pair of floorstanding speakers!

For the last two weeks I've been test-driving a pair of Klipsch Reference series 800F floor standing speakers. These are brand new for 2022 and at the time of this writing there is no information online about them. However, I believe these are a revised version of the 820F model that incorporates design cues from the 8000 model. For my testing I used two similar 1100 watt receivers from different brands and a set of 16-gauge cables with banana jacks. With either receiver the towers sounded great. However, one receiver did sound better than the other and required less power to drive the speakers. So your mileage may vary.Out of the box these speakers needed minimal assembly. There's a two-piece plastic stand that attaches to the bottom of the towers with screws. ... MoreFor the last two weeks I've been test-driving a pair of Klipsch Reference series 800F floor standing speakers. There's a two-piece plastic stand that attaches to the bottom of the towers with screws. All I needed was a Phillips head screwdriver and a helper to assist in flipping and moving the speakers. After installing the stand, the speakers are 43 inches tall and 16 inches deep. Which is larger and deeper than I expected. But luckily, I had enough space to accommodate them.As for overall looks and feel I think the speakers are fantastic. I love the unique design of the large tractrix horn, copper-colored woofers and completely hidden fasteners. I also liked that the exterior convincingly feels like real wood grain and the speaker grills are magnetic. On top of that, the cabinet construction is top notch and the rubber feet do an excellent job keeping the speakers planted. As for performance, the speakers can get really loud, and provide crystal-clear vocals as well as plenty of bass. Even without a subwoofer the towers easily provided enough bass to make my picture frames rattle. When paired with a center channel, surround speakers, Atmos speakers and a subwoofer they provided an excellent and immersive surround sound experience.Another nice feature of these speakers is that it includes a second banana jack input on the bottom of the cabinet and a banana jack output closer to the top which acts as a pass through for top mounted Atmos speakers. So if you intend on using these for a home theater this will make cable management a little easier.Overall, I love these speakers and highly recommend them as both standalone speakers and as part of an Atmos home theater system.

When placed correctly and after a few hours of normal use, these speakers sound absolutely fantastic. The level and the tight Bass it produces is totally unexpected. Highs are very clear, noticebaly better than Def Tech BP-9060s that I tested right next to them. Connected one of these R-800s to the right channel and a BP-9060 to the left, then used a left and right speaker test on youtube to hear the difference. Bass without any additinal subs is obviously better on BP-9060 but mids and highs are definitely better on the R-800f. Returned BP-9060 after reading reviews about Amps failing on these and kept the Klipsch R-800f. That was over a month ago and the Klipsch have only gotten better. I am going to start of with how beautiful these floor speakers are. The ebony wood casing with the copper speaker diaphragm just look elegant yet graceful. The speakers do come with a magnetic mesh cover, but I have not put them on because they just cover up these beautiful speakers. Beauty means nothing if these speakers can’t produce. Let me tell you these speakers by Klipsch sound amazing.I had always been a soundbar guy just because of they are more convenient and don’t take up as much space but once you try out these speakers it will change your mind. The music and the movies, everything sounds so much better, everything is just so much crisper and clearer and clean to give you a better immersive experience. I did find myself being lost in the music just because how amazing the sound quality was. You can distinctly hear the different instruments, the ranges, the pitches, the highs and the lows. Some speakers start to distort at higher levels but that was not the case with these speakers. Everything was on point regardless of what you throw at them. When used as a complete set for a home theater system, the speakers combined with the center channel and the surround speakers and the sub, it will give your movie experience a new meaning. The dialogues are cleaner and clear and can be heard easily, while simultaneously allowing you to hear more of the background sounds in the movie. The sub is easily able to handle the hard-hitting notes but is not overwhelming. One cool feature about these floor speakers is that they can be paired with the Klipsch surround sound speakers with the provided input jacks in the back of the speaker for the Dolby Atmos elevation channel. You will see a rubber cover on the back of the speaker with the words “Dolby Atmos”. Simply remove the rubber cover to reveal the height elevation input jacks. The manual provided with the speaker can guide you on proper placement for your setup.
I have been a longtime fan and owner of pretty much anything Klipsch for over twenty years. I have regretfully strayed from my Klipsch dedication a handful of times with other speaker manufacturers and ended up right back here. The first Klipsch floor standing speakers I purchased lasted me over twenty years with no issues and sounded just as good today as when I bought them from an electronics store that is unfortunately no longer in business. I decided it was time for a well-deserved upgrade to the latest technology after upgrading my receiver and landed on the Reference R-800F speakers for my main front speakers. The main stand out feature Klipsch uses compared to other makers that any audiophile would agree with is their exclusive Tractrix horn technology with their Linear Travel Suspension (LTS) aluminum tweeters they pair with their main drivers. The horn style tweeters sound extremely crisp and loud while allowing sound to travel throughout the area their facing. Another stand out feature you can see that distinguishes Klipsch’s Reference series and their mid and/or lower end speakers is their Copper IMG woofers. Using the built-in crossovers to ensure you are providing the right frequency range to the right speakers, the Copper drivers sound amazing and are very responsive to sound. The combination of these speakers and the technology Klipsch uses make them sound amazing for movies, games, music and anything else you throw at them.At approximately 43” tall, the 800F speakers are quite large so I would ensure you measure your space accordingly before committing to these monsters. The cabinets are MDF surrounded by black scratch resistant, textured wood grain vinyl. There are four speaker connections on the back of the floor stands, two for the main speakers and the other one labeled “Height” are for connecting Atmos speakers (not included) through the floor stands. I love that they combined this feature with the new model, especially considering most new technology is using Dolby Atmos now.You won’t be disappointed with the sound of these but make sure you pair a powerful enough amplifier or receiver with them and have the space for them. Combine these monsters with the rest of Klipsch’s Reference line of speakers and you’ll have an amazing sounding surround sound stereo system which should last you decades like they have for me. These are now the main speakers in our movie/game room and blow everyone away with the incredible sound they provide.
I have a small listening room, it's a 12x16 living room in a small 1 bedroom apartment so these speakers alone are more than enough to fill the area with awesome sound. I have them as my fronts on an Onkyo TX-NR6050, replacing a pair of R-620Fs which got bumped to surrounds, which in turn bumped my R-610Fs to the rear. I also have an R-52C center and a pair of R-12SW subs. These R-800Fs are definitely more than I needed sound wise as far as filling the room but they do fill a gap that was present between the 6.5" woofers and the 12" subs and I don't have to push my amp hard to get plenty of awesome sound filling the space. This keeps the heat generated by pushing amps down and will therefore prolong the life of them because heat is an amps worst enemy, only second ... MoreI have a small listening room, it's a 12x16 living room in a small 1 bedroom apartment so these speakers alone are more than enough to fill the area with awesome sound. This keeps the heat generated by pushing amps down and will therefore prolong the life of them because heat is an amps worst enemy, only second to user error. I have never melted an amp either in my home setups nor my car audio systems because I always make sure there of enough power to be able to run the amps at moderate levels to accomplish big sound. It's not really any more expensive, especially if you take into account the cost of replacing a fried amp, you just have to know or be willing to learn how to pick your components and when and where to shop for them. I got these at half the MSRP retail price. I grabbed them because I could and I'm very glad I did. The previous reviewer who did the overview article mentioned a few times that they are lacking somewhat in the mid range and I would have to agree but unless you're a snobby audiophile who wouldn't own Klipsch Reference series speakers anyway its not very noticeable and it fills in some as they break in. When I first turned the system on after connecting them I was far from impressed but I turned up the volume a bit and ran some albums from a few different genres that are standards recommend by experienced speaker testers and then a few select tracks that I have picked out myself for a final break in session that I have put together myself based on my listening preferences because I don't generally listen to commercially produced music. I have amassed a substantial collection of music from genres, artists, and labels that I guess would be considered "underground" to those who don't understand that there is a vast universe of great music out there that is not exposed via the major record labels and radio exposure that is repetitively served up for the masses. That is where my listening preferences reside. The basic genre structure is the same, it's just better music by better artists and lots and lots of it and thanks to modern technology it is now available to anyone who desires to step off the beaten path. Although not surprisingly, few seem to have the willingness to do. Very few people recognize any of the music I listen to although they do claim to enjoy it however step right back into their fabricated comfort zones as soon as they leave my presence. Sadly for them and most people it seems they are limited in scope and not ready to step out of the box. It's a shame but not much I can do to change besides just keep exposing it as much as possible in hopes that some of it at least will catch their attention enough at some point in order for them to start seeking on their own. But after my own personal break in and the standard and a couple of movies that I also use as reference to the same tune as my musical interests, the mid range has stepped up a notch at least as far as I hear it. I am super happy with these and any mid range that may be left lacking in these is quickly filled in when I set the system to utilize all of the channels with the other speakers I have. So this condition is not even a factor for my system because the Onkyo handles the surround processing for any video that I feed it and I usually listen to music in "all channel stereo" mode and if I do want just 2 channel stereo for music I am able to set either the fronts or either of the surround positions to play it that way so if these are missing any of the full range of sound, I can simply set it to play on the R-620Fs or the R-610Fs. These are definitely the right ones to completely fill in my sound requirements and I do recommend them to anyone looking for a similar outcome. If you mainly listen to commercially available music in 2 channel stereo, these will still sound decent to most people but if you are a serious audiophile, there are probably more suitable options on the market. Hope this helps in your quest for the ultimate speakers for your preferences.
OVERVIEWThe Klipsch R800F floor standing behemoths are solid speakers that feature a great design aesthetic and pretty good sound that tends to lack a bit in the mid-range. Their bulk isn't a con in my opinion, as my theater is setup in such a way that their size doesn't matter, but if you're strapped for space, you may need to consider whether these are a good fit. The finish is a jet black wood-grained vinyl that's a semi-gloss, classy looking finish. From the front, you see nothing but a Klipsch logo adorned on the giant speaker grille, which is attached by hidden magnets to the speaker. This coincidentally was how my Paradigm speakers handled affixing the speaker grille as well, and I personally think this is a fantastic solution because it leaves you with a completely clean look with the grille off. On the back, you have two pairs of speaker terminals on the bottom and a pair of banana plugs on the top. The second set of inputs allows you to pass-thru your connection to a set of Atmos enabled speakers at the top, which is an incredibly elegant feature that significantly cleans up the speaker wire situation in the front. You can run two sets at the bottom and have a short run set at the top and not have wires dangling all over the place. Great implementation.SOUND QUALITYI'll preface this again by saying that these replaced a set of very good Paradigm floor standers, so my comments here are in the context of that situation. Overall, I've found the R800F speakers to be pretty good, giving a substantial amount of high end and low end presence. To my ears, they lack definition in the mid-range, however, which is not entirely surprising given that they're a two-way driver design. The Paradigms were a three-way driver design, meaning they had a dedicated mid-range speaker cone, and in my experience, this helps the Paradigms achieve a slightly fuller sound. That being said, that's the result of my ears being accustomed to the Paradigms, and in general, the R800Fs have a decently full sound stage that projects a loud, forward amount of sound. They generally sound great with both music and movies. Testing these with a number of different genres of music, they never seemed to struggle regardless of how challenging the content was (anything from metal to progressive to red dirt); the R800Fs filled my listening space with an abundance of great sound, always projecting a relatively uncolored and mostly full blanket of noise (perhaps lacking something in the mids as previously discussed). The highs were incredibly well put together, not piercing as some speakers do it, but very forward and present. The new tweeter design is probably the star of the show here, as it handles a pretty wide range of frequencies, ranging from the seemiingly ultrasonic into the vast realm of mid-range. They do an admirable job of trying to cover the mid crossover into the larger drivers, but again, I feel there's some punch missing that means these could've benefitted with a third driver type in my opinion. In terms of cinema and TV watching, these speakers excel. The lack of mid-range punch noted previously is not much of a consideration here, as they handle everything from loud explosions to delicate dialog with ease. With the R800Fs, I've never found myself struggling to interpret or understand dialog, which is often the case for my previous systems, and they handle the loudest of explosions in style, filling my theater with a blanket of sound that can rattle the walls if given enough volume. While these are very good for music, it feels to me like they were made for movies.CONCLUSIONThe R800Fs are very good, behemoths that sound pretty good with music and sound incredible with movies. They feature a design aesthetic that's likely to fit in with a majority of setups, and are well served to form the foundation of your new home theater. These should be a strong consideration for you, especially if you're primarily concerned with cinema watching.
Of the full set of Klipsch gear I received for review, the K-800F are by far the pick of the litter, and I guess that should be expected as the flagship speaker in the updated Reference series.First off, I love the new tweeter/horn design. On this larger speaker, the horn design just looks amazing and symmetrical in a way that no other speaker I've seen can match. Especially for the floorstanding R-800F, the magnetic grilles are meant to be off! The new "spun copper thermoformed crystal polymer" woofers add to the bold look. Adding the grilles back, and adding the optional Atmos height speakers (the R-40SA), the speakers become a black tower of power that can nearly steal the show from even the largest TV setups.Putting on a few demo tracks in stereo only mode, ... MoreOf the full set of Klipsch gear I received for review, the K-800F are by far the pick of the litter, and I guess that should be expected as the flagship speaker in the updated Reference series.First off, I love the new tweeter/horn design. Adding the grilles back, and adding the optional Atmos height speakers (the R-40SA), the speakers become a black tower of power that can nearly steal the show from even the largest TV setups.Putting on a few demo tracks in stereo only mode, I was really impressed right out of the gate with the R-800F. My listening notes from the first demo (Bon Iver - Holocene): "efficient - clear and loud even at lower volumes - wide soundstage - low crossover for tweeter but no distortion". Coming back to that track again tonight after a few weeks of movies and music to break them in, and the notes hold true. Yes, these tower speakers can get loud and do so with great clarity when given the power they deserve - but they also are shockingly detailed and clear even at lower volume levels. It's been awhile since I've properly been in the home audio game, but these speakers are hands-down the best speakers I've ever heard at low and moderate volumes. I attribute that to the horn tweeter design and the (seemingly) lower crossover frequency than I'm used to. The tweeter handles that upper midrange very well and does a great job spreading it out so the sound seems to flow from a continuous wall in front of you, rather than two points on right and left. Once you add the matching center, it only gets better.I put the speakers through their paces with Metallica - Wherever I May Roam and Foo Fighters - Everlong on DVD-Audio, as well as the SACD for Kind of Blue, even a full re-listen of Kendrick Lamar's "To Pimp a Butterfly" and finally my favorite benchmark track, The Avett Brothers' "Shame". Seriously, if you haven't used this track to demo a set of speakers, you will be blown away. The R-800Fs handled it perfectly - bright, clear vocals, warm, crisp banjo and guitar, and finally the upright bass just blowing your socks off out of nowhere. The 8 inch drivers on the K-800F pull all of this off capably on their own, as well as having a smooth transition to the subwoofer if you have one.For movie and TV viewing, the same qualities show their virtue, with the efficient clarity at low volume again proving a highlight. The dynamic range afforded by this setup is just astounding - whether watching Wheel of Time, Downtown Abbey, or the Matrix Resurrections, these speakers do not disappoint.Setting up the Atmos height speakers was really easy thanks to the integrated atmos terminals on the R-800F towers, and the rubber feet on the R-40SA speakers keep them firmly in place on the top of the towers. My only complaint with the R-800F speakers is the cheap screws they send for attaching the feet for the towers. The head of the first screw I tightened broke off with about an 8th of an inch of thread left until it was fully tightened down. Fortunately it left enough thread for me to get a set of pliers on the remains and get it out, but be on the alert. This was hand tightening the screw, too, no power tools involved! Definitely be on the alert. I ended up deciding to risk it with the remaining 7 screws and just go very slowly, and did not break any of the others. If I hadn't been completely blown away by that first listen with these speakers, that might have knocked off a star for me.Otherwise, if you have the space and are looking to upgrade your home theater or listening room, I think these R-800s will hold up well even against some speakers in higher price brackets.
I've always wanted floor tower speakers instead of using bookshelf for my main left/right in my older setup. Enter the Klipsch 800F and wow. Just blown away, literally and figuratively. In the box comes the one tower, paperwork, screws to install the feet, front and rear feet. Installation is easier with 2 people, but I did it myself on a cushion on the floor to avoid damaging the beautiful finish. It's simpler to open the top, take out the package with the screws and feet then turn it upside down on a cushion (not really needed as it has a large/thick styrofoam piece to protect it. Make sure the feet are orientated the correct way then screw in the screws but not too tight as it can damage the tower.I used 14 AWG to connect both towers to my Onkyo receiver's ... MoreI've always wanted floor tower speakers instead of using bookshelf for my main left/right in my older setup. Love how this makes adding Atmos later so easy.Sound is clearly amazing. Highs, lows and mids were on point. In my 7.1 setup you can hear everything and feel the punch from them. If you just want towers, at least pair them with a great sub like the Klipsch 121SW and you'll be golden. The grille is magnetic so if you want to show off the beautiful copper cones, it's a great option. The black cabinet is nice to look at and would fit in any room. Would recommend these in a heartbeat to people looking for great towers.
