The Good:After 10 days camping I normally am sore and tired simply from sleeping on anything less than my bed at home. Enter in the Klymaloft XL. Loads of comfort for side and back sleeping. Very comfortable mattress, not noisy. I recently took this mattress on a 10-day canoe camping trip into the northern Quetico (Ontario). I slept better on this mattress than on some beds. However, the amount of effort it took to fill the mattress with air from the included bag often left me debating if the effort was worth it. At the end of a long day of paddling and portaging, I’d end up blowing up the bag, then squeezing my exhaled air into the mattress. Also, the foam pad would often shift during packing, although that didn’t affect the overall comfort. It packed down really well for the inflated size, and I’d definitely recommend it. The mattress is tough enough to withstand surfaces that would cause other mattresses to leak. With a couple small tweaks to the ... MoreVery comfortable mattress, not noisy. This is not the compact and light pad you want in your pack, but it is a great pad. The 75D polyester shell actually feels tougher than I expected, and I would trust it to much rougher terrain than most of my previous inflatable pads. Inflation only took a couple of minutes, but the valve is huge, allowing for easier inflation. There is an interesting reversible valve setup that I appreciate for inflating and deflating the pad, making breakdown a pretty easy affair. I had a little trouble seating the valve cover the first time, and lost some air before I realized it needed to actually snap closed, meaning you feel and hear the "snap" of the cover engage when it is completely sealed. That might have been the problem for a previous reviewer who felt like it didn't ... MoreThis is not the compact and light pad you want in your pack, but it is a great pad. That might have been the problem for a previous reviewer who felt like it didn't hold air....I don't know. Adding some pictures to better show what I mean. Back to the pad itself, it is advertised at 5in thick, and I could believe it. I forgot to measure, but I actually ended up deflating it a little to get it more comfortable. If you like a rigid pad, this can handle the pressure. If you like softer, you can bleed out a fair amount of air to even get it to a pseudo hammock with how thick this thing is. It does not have the side bumper feature some other pads do, and it's wide enough that I don't feel it's necessary for this particular pad. I'm 6'3", 220lbs, wear XL tops, and never felt like I was going to slide off the side, or the ends. My arms could rest at my sides and stay on the pad, but only if I was perfectly centered on it. It wasn't a problem inside the sleeping bag. As others have said, this pad is fantastic for side sleepers, and I'm not even exaggerating when I say it might have been more comfortable than my home mattress for side sleeping. The foam topper is a nice touch, but I wonder if it's really necessary. The pad would probably gain another pound or two if that ever got wet. Speaking about that, the mattress comes in a nifty stuff sack that has a nicely reinforced weep hole at the bottom (also pictured) to help some with drying on the run. I didn't get around to checking to see if the stuff sack was water resistant, sorry. I only have three consecutive nights on the pad so far, but my initial impressions are: 1. This pad is totally worth it for side sleepers, or anybody who wants a thicker pad for whatever reason. 2. It is 1-1.5lbs more than most of the popular lite pack pads, and takes up twice(ish) the space. 3. It is tough. 4. I'm a little worried in the long term about the rigid cap getting damaged so it can't seat properly, mostly because I could see me falling or accidentally stepping on it while it is open. 5. The seams, stitching, and adhesive around the valve all feel solid. The cover for the foam pad feels like it could tear or snag pretty easily. 6. I might give it 5 stars for what it is later, but few things get 5 stars until it has had a chance to prove itself over time. For now it will be my go-to when I have room in the space and weight budget for 3-5 day trips, road trips, and when I need to avoid sleeping on the floor at my friends sketchy place before we hit the trail. The stock pictures are good enough for how it looks inflated, so I just added pics for things I thought they should have, like a relative size reference with the water bottle.
Don't take the quotation marks as a negative, I mean that this is a great product for a SPECIFIC purpose. This was NOT meant to be a backpacking mattress. It is IMPOSSIBLE to stuff it into anything so definitely only plan to use it for camping that is close to your vehicle.Pros:- Foam mattress is AMAZING! I loved it cause it was so comfortable, felt like laying on clouds.- Design made sense and really played off each other to insulate sleepers.- Sturdy, we were laying in an open area but there were lots of rocks and rough dirt but it held up.Cons:- Loses air, maybe I'm doing it wrong but after a week there was not a single day that I did not have to blow it back up. Sometimes we'd wake up and if one person moved a certain way the mattress would sink ... MoreDon't take the quotation marks as a negative, I mean that this is a great product for a SPECIFIC purpose. I've waited a bit to do this review so that I could accurately assess the pad. I've taken it backpacking, car camping, canoe camping, and just to sleep on while traveling. I've probably spent close to a month of nights sleeping on this pad now.It isn't as light as an ultralight pad, but I prefer a little extra weight for the added comfort. It packs down into a small enough package to easily fit in my backpack, even when I'm bringing along my young son and most of his gear. For car camping or canoe camping, this should be your go-to pad. It inflates and deflates easily. I've had no issues with slow deflation overnight, even when we stayed in one spot for several nights in a row. I sleep like a baby on this pad, and you will too!
I only recently received this, and haven't had it out in the field yet. I have inflated it and taken several naps, though, and must agree it is the most comfortable pad of its type that I have tried. It is about the same size or a little smaller than my old Thermarest Basecamp, but over twice as thick. It is soft, doesn't feel bouncy like some air pads, and is quite quiet. My only reservation is that the soft foam topper seems to be open cell foam held on by relatively thin/stretchy material. I imagine it will be harder to keep clean, won't dry quickly if it gets wet, and might not be as long-lasting as more typical pads (though all this is just speculation - and hopefully I am wrong). In any case, I'm really happy about the comfort, and that seems to be this pad's ... MoreI only recently received this, and haven't had it out in the field yet. Positives: This mattress is perfect for family camping and travelling. We have used this mattress while car camping, as an extra bed in a hotel, as a bed while our furniture was taken for a move, and for kids' sleepovers. It is extremely comfortable and fits one adult and two kids or two adults. For a family of five, this is one of the best camping gear purchases we have ever made.Contextual Negatives: You'll want to get an air pump to blow it up. It has a fairly standard valve, so you don't necessarily have to buy the Klymit pump or pump sack. I've blown it up with lungs only, and had to take a few breaks to avoid passing out. Also, the foam/fabric component stains easily--we get around that by wrapping a sheet with the mattress and travelling with it, but be aware.
My husband and I bought Static V's after using old school Thermarest pads from the 80's and while they are great pads I toss and turn and even with the pad sleeve on my mummy bag I couldn't stay the Static V through the night. Not a product complaint on the static V. Hubby is a back sleeper and we both just wanted a way to be closer in the tent and before we bought the Kylmit Dog Bed, our beagle also needed to be on the sleeping pad with us. Talk about cramped! (Husband is 6' 1" and weighs 260lbs, I'm 5' 1" and weigh 130lbs, dog is a Beagle weighing about 35lbs.)This Klymaloft pad is AMAZING.NO NOISE when you move. More than enough room for my husband, me AND the DOG. If you have little kids you could plop like six of them on here laying across the width. The material on the bottom does slide on the tent floor but I put my old Navy Surplus blanket under it for more insulation/condensation barrier and it's *chef's kiss*I haven't gotten a pump for it yet as the first few months I had the pad this site was sold out and my local shop was as well... so yeah, it takes between 100 and 102 Wim Hoff breaths to blow it up, LOL. I do them 25 at a time so my nose doesn't feel like it's floating in front of my face. I found that, with my husband's weight being greater than mine the more full the pad is with air the more comfortable it is for the both of us. I underinflated it on one 2 night trip just to see how that felt and honestly... I still didn't feel him if he moved on the pad thanks to the padded top!Dog hair brushes off of the pad super easily, surprised by that. Deflating is easy but I find it deflates faster if I don't flip the valve completely over to "deflate", I just flip it in the "middle" then roll my body across the pad. LOL Works for me!Awesome product for car camping and as an extra "bed" around the house for guests. Would love to see a double bag with a sleeve to accommodate this pad! Also, love the color. It's nice to find camp gear that isn't on the loud side visually.
I've used this pad as well as it's little brother the standard for years now. The standard I used while working wildland fires, and it was so much more comfortable then my sea to summit pad I almost cried the first time I went to sleep on it. Gets nice and compact for your bags. No ultralight item but its worth the increase in weight. So far super durable no holes or cuts after those summers spiking out. Does take a little time to inflate. For the larger pad I have used it car camping and even on a 2 day back packing trip. Definitely was the largest item in my pack but that setup worked for me and my s.o. Overall these pads are amazing and I'd recommend to everyone.
