In my line of work I needed a tool that checked a couple boxes, this does that and then some. Never knew this style existed until a roomie pointed out his Knipex. It's now the most used tool in my kit... Ease of use, ability to fit in tight areas, jaws that don't need to be opened wide to use thus no large handle span, and of course quality. By far the best!

Knipex make great pliers but they are expensive, so I thought about this purchase for a while before I finally bought them. I already have 250mm and 300mm water pump pliers and I wanted something a bit smaller to get into tight spaces. I was very surprised just how compact these pliers are, and initially thought they wouldn't be up to the job. In use however they are brilliant, small enough to get in where other water pump pliers or grips can't, but with a decent capacity - the 180mm model I bought fits a 40mm nut. Their strong grip allowed me to undo nuts I didn't expect such a compact tool to manage. The size adjustment gives a range of about 6mm before you have to move to the next notch. Their construction means the harder you push on the handle, the tighter they grip the nut, and there's no danger of their slipping. The parallel jaws are smooth and flat and don't mar brass or chrome fittings, so much nicer than pipe grips. Adjusting the pliers to the required size is a little fiddly, but no more so than regular pipe grips or adjustable spanners. They don't slip, keeping their size setting until you want to change. This is a real advantage over adjustable spanners that seem to need to be tightened constantly. You can also ease off on the handles and let them slip as you undo or tighten the nut, a bit like a ratchet spanner. This really speeds up working, especially if you can't see what your doing. Although these are called 'Pliers Wrench' they are most useful as a truly useable adjustable spanner, that happens to be a good pair of pliers too. These have replaced a set of spanners in my tool box. The good Compact Good capacity Smooth parallel action jaws The bad Size markings hard to see Adjustment range is a bit small Overall I'm really impressed with these pliers. They aren't the cheapest around, but offer good value when you consider the cost and space savings you can make by not needing a full set of spanners. They are much better than water pump pliers and don't cut up the work piece. Definitely recommended.

I have a growing number of knipex tools, and i can safely say that none have disappointed. I wish they were less money, but i have to say buying huge lots of average tools is gets old. I am one of those people who has bought several 200, 300, and even 400 piece tools sets over the last 20 to 30 years. As a result my tool bag would be called a mutt because i have so many breads??. Over that same period i have strategically added more and more high end tools - and i find that i go to them - the tool kits are great for making sure you have all the possible sizes you need, but the great tools are the ones i reach for first.
Tell your trusty thumb-detecting-nut-rounder to visit your grandpa in hell, and drop a chunk of your rent on these in a 10" and a 7". You'll be the envy of your job site. Your ex girlfriend from high school will call you and tell you she messed up. Your mother might finally quit her drinking. Well, probably not, but she'll be mighty impressed with how quickly you fixed that plumbing under her sink. Anyway, this is a beautiful and excessively useful wrench that has launched me into a lifelong relationship with Knipex. If I ever lost this tool, I'd replace it quicker than my tears would dry. It's that perfect.

The Knipex Pliers Wrench are very much better than a conventional adjustable wrench in that they grip the fastener tighter as more torque is applied to the handle in one direction, exhibit a ratcheting action in the other, have a larger jaw capacity than a conventional adjustable wrench of the same length, and are lighter than similarly sized adjustable wrenches. The Knipex pliers wrench are also a decent pair of pliers. The smooth jaws grip surprisingly well thanks to the 10:1 compound leverage although this does make adjustments a bit fussy. This year I received them as a birthday gift. The Knipex Pliers Wrench are very much better than a conventional adjustable wrench in that they grip the fastener tighter as more torque is applied to the handle in one direction, exhibit a ratcheting action in the other, have a larger jaw capacity than a conventional adjustable wrench of the same length, and are lighter than similarly sized adjustable wrenches. They WILL engrave aggressive teeth marks in whatever they're used on, although they can be used and adjusted so that this is minimised by making sure the toothed sections of the Cobra plier's jaws are close to parallel and engage opposite flats of a fastener. I still think the use of an adjustable wrench, pliers, or pliers wrench on a fastener is only acceptable due to the necessity of a task combined with the lack of a better option. I see the Knipex Pliers Wrench as a small incremental improvement of the Knipex Cobra Pliers. I would've bought them myself long ago had they only been a small increment more expensive. If you NEED a lightweight adjustable wrench that doesn't slip or mar fasteners then I'd say they're worth it. If not, the Cobra Pliers are less expensive and more versatile.

The jaws on this set have been ground down much narrower than all the other pliers wrenches, which makes them extremely handy for grabbing small things in tight spaces. These also still open up to nearly an inch wide, so even though they're tiny and can easily fit in your pocket, they can still be used to take some big things apart. I cannot recommend the Knipex pliers wrench series of pliers enough. You really can't have too many of them! Once your'e done with them, you might as well get the cobras while you're at it. This has become an integral part of my work bag in a short time. The adjustability of the jaws is huge for a tool of this size and can replace several adjustable wrenches. The open and close action of the handle makes a quick release and bites down on the nut like a pipe wrench when torqueing. The pliers are thin to access tighter areas. It just feels good when using and doesn't fight. I might have to splurge and get the 10" as well. This is a great tool from Knipex. Knipex is a little expensive but worth every penny. Tool for life.
