Knipex Electronic Super Knips burnished, With multi-component Grips 125 mm 78 71 125

I've had diagonal cutters forever but never really knew that flush-cutters were a thing. These little guys are super precise, and sharp like you can't even imagine. The jaws on mine are perfectly aligned. They have a great feel in your hand and do exactly what you'd expect- cut perfectly flush with the bottom surface of the jaws. All these years I've been cutting zip ties with side cutters and because of the blade bevel on those you always get 1/16" or 1/8" of the tie sticking up, razor sharp and bound to scratch or cut you or someone else at some point. Or at the very least be annoying. Not anymore! I don' do a lot of small electronics work but I can also see how these will be useful for control wire work and soldering jobs on really small components. Paid $25 which seems high but you get what you pay for. As long as you don't abuse these cutting thing they aren't designed for I think they'd last a lifetime. I have yet to buy anything Knipex that wasn't first class. I have to admit I was a little skeptical, like "flush cut, ok, it'll be close." Nope. If you cut a zip tie you end up with a perfectly smooth surface, you could rub your finger on it all day long and not only is the end not sharp, you can't even detect it. The difference between using these and side-cutters is just night and day.

I've owned a few pair of flush cuts over my career as an electrician. I really love these knipex ones and they stay true to the quality that we all know and love. But you have to ask yourself are you willing to pay this much for a brand? They're more than double the price of any other mini flush cutters that do just as good a job and my crescent ones have lasted me going on 8 years. These flush cuts are pretty much the same standard flush cuts you'll find anywhere else unlike their channel locks or side cutters that are clearly superior to their competitors. In all honesty I much prefer my coworker's vise grip flush cuts to these ones. But hey if you're a big knipex fan and all of your tools are knipex, you won't be disappointed!

My 3rd set of small shear cutters, I was disappointed with the Wiha and Xuron equivalents (both prior Home Essentials Direct purchases) because they didnt last. The spring mechanism in these designs is often just stuck behind the vinyl cover on the handles, with time it invariably comes freemaking one handed operation impossible. The Knipex design uses the same technique, though I decided to try the brand after friends recommended it for quality. The shears are ground well and have a good fit in my hand, there is a bit more tension in the spring than the other brands I have tried, though its not uncomfortable. Purchased last winter, still functional. These are top end in terms of cost, hopefully they will last & justify the purchase.
