Nice looking unit, attractivly packaged. I took it out, thought I could handle the installation no problem, and started to bend it around the bar. It required so much flex to fit that I backed off and thought, hmm, better read the instructions. I watched the video, and the tech just pushes it right over the bar...so I went ahead and tried to do the same. Snap! The inside plastic broke immediately. Frustrating as i like the profile and the sound. So anyway, be careful on the mounting. (REI did take it back, no problem)

I fell in love with these the moment I saw them. Low profile, very stylish. I bought the small but it was too small. So I cut my losses and bought the large and it was too big. I used the additional spacer supplied with the large bell, but then it was so tight that the plastic frame prevented the chrome band from chiming. The actual striking mechanism is entirely plastic, and the spring used to fire it is so wobbly that it's a bit hit and miss. My verdict and experience after buying two, is honestly – don't bother. They're both sitting on my desk as I type this review. A classic case of form over function.

I wanted this to be the perfect bicycle bell. It's a cool design, takes up little space in the "cockpit", should be very aerodynamic, and fits a variety of handlebar sizes. I followed this product during its Kickstarter phase, although I didn't contribute, instead preferring to wait and see how it turned out before investing. I'm glad I waited.Although I'm sure there are bikes and handlebars where this bell will be very satisfactory, it doesn't allow for any customization of the striker position, which makes it more difficult to reach on my primary bicycle. I have a "hybrid" bike, with "trigger" shifters, which sit just inside the hand grips. That means there is a significant reach for the thumb to engage the striker. I have a "hybrid" bike, with "trigger" shifters, which sit just inside the hand grips. That means there is a significant reach for the thumb to engage the striker. I have another bell, a round one, that allows the striker to be rotated to a position nearly parallel with the handlebar, which puts it within much easier reach of my thumb. So, I decided to move this bell to another bike (with drop bars) where it will be easier to reach. Pretty disappointing that I won't even see this bell on most of my rides, but I have other bikes, and hoped the new bell would inspire me to make better use of them.In addition to the mounting issue, this bell is really not very loud, especially in comparison to other bells on the market. If you ride MUPs, or rail trails, there will be times when you'll wish you could easily make a little more noise than this bell can be convinced to make. It's just not loud enough to notify some walkers, or other cyclists, that you're nearby. I tried striking it harder, but that didn't seem to make any difference. The metal part of the bell appears to be attached with some sort of rubber with little springs, and the striker appears to use a plastic "hinge", features that do not inspire confidence that this rather pricey bell will survive any crash, or even regular use over several years. On top of all that, the mounting system is a little clunky, and seems to require more hands than I have available to get all the pieces in place to fit smaller handlebars, and the screw is not easily started in the threads when the bell is wrapped around the handlebar. It just doesn't want to line up. From what I could tell, the screw threads into a thick section of the plastic mount, with no metal nut to allow for thorough tightening, which makes the security of the positioning a little "iffy". There was a label in the package warning against overtightening the screw. I suppose that means they've had some returns with stripped out threads. Also, the actual metal part of the bell, the part that makes the sound, wraps around the mount so that it prevents spreading the section that can be opened far enough to slip over thicker handlebars, forcing you to find a thinner section to get the bell around the bar, and perhaps even requiring the removal of brake levers or shifters to permit the bell to be mounted on the bar, then slid into position. All in all, it doesn't live up to the hype, in my humble opinion.

I frequently ride my road bike on multiuse paths. I've been shouting "on your left!" for a few years, and it tends to 1) scare most people, 2) anger some people, and 3) make folks move to the left, instead of making space on the left.I realized that I needed a bell. I wanted something small, basic, and with a sound that would let people know I was coming without making them jump out of their shoes. This bell does that almost perfectly. The things I like are:+ Pleasant tone. Has a nice, friendly "ding" that doesn't scare people.+ Control. I can control the volume (to some degree) and the number of dings by how hard / frequently I flick the hammer.+ Cable channels. Fits on the limited real estate on my bars.+ Small and discreet. I can control the volume (to some degree) and the number of dings by how hard / frequently I flick the hammer.+ Cable channels. Fits on the limited real estate on my bars.+ Small and discreet. Blends in with my black handlebars.Things I don't like:- Too quiet. This bell isn't loud enough at a distance (e.g. approaching fast from a distance, or around a blind corner), when there is environmental noise (e.g. wind, traffic), or when runners are wearing headphones. When I flick the hammer as hard as I can, it's still pretty quiet.- Have to move my hands. I really wish there was a way to mount the bell so I could use it when my hands are on the hoods. The only practical place to put it is near the stem, though, so I usually have to change my hand position to use the bell. Sometimes this doesn't feel safe.My experience has been great overall, and I definitely recommend this bell, but it still needs a little improvement. If they made a louder version (especially with a brass bell instead of aluminum) I'd buy it to replace this one.
I was drawn to this bell because of it innovative and sleek design but was bitterly disappointed by its effectiveness. Using a decibel meter on my phone, with the phone placed a centimetre from the bell it recorded a maximum of 76db. This reduced to 65db 1 metre from the bell - with background traffic noise, which was limited to a couple of passing cars and a bus idling at a bus stop 50 metres away, recorded at 60db the bell is going to very quickly be drowned out by background noise and be totally ineffective.I've also found that the hammer doesn't always go in the direction you want and misses the bell completely, or only makes light contact. reducing the output considerably or making it totally silent.Sadly, not what I was expecting at all.
It's not loud enough to alert anyone with headphones or earbuds in - but that's true for most bells. The main problem you'll likely run into is that it is simply too wide in diameter for a fair amount of handlebars by the grips. If you commute in a loud environment, I'd look for a louder solution. It's a little overpriced considering these shortcomings.
I bought this for my drop-bar, higher-end gravel bike that often meanders onto urban multipurpose trails. The low-profile design is lightweight and the black bell color blends in with the GoPro, Garmin and headlamp mounts. I like the spacing below the bell that allows for routing brake/shift cables. I bought the large size. Someone gave me the small-sized Knog Oi bell as a gift and I'm still trying to find a handlebar that it fits. This bell is appropriate for most roads and paths with low ambient noise--the sort of remote trails and paved routes that don't run parallel to busy roads or freeways--where pedestrians and cyclists never hear the bell until you're too close to react. My first reaction to the limited bell noise was to pull back the bell lever further to add striking impact and improved volume, but the plastic trigger and spring popped out of the assembly under the additional tension. I was able to reassemble the trigger and housing without losing a pedal stroke, but as cool as this space-saving bell looks, it fails its intended (and most important) purpose in busy urban and industrial settings around rail trails and well-used commuter lanes.
Really disappointing. The hammer spring is so weak that half the time you try to flick it, it doesn't swign forward hard enough to hit the bell at all. My £5 Amazon one on my other bike is much better in that regard, but unfortunately they don't make those to fit 31.8mm dropped bars. Also the design is such that the normal cable routing out form underneath bar tape fouls the bell metal unless you tip it all the way back so the hammer is pointing downwards, making it practically useless. Only gets two stars because the noise is actually quite nice and sounds high quality, if you can actually get it to make the noise when you want it to. Wouldn't recommend, wouldn't buy again.
I read a lot of negative reviews of this bell which nearly put me off buying it, but fortunately they didn't. after several rides I'm glad I got it. It looks great. The black version on black handlebars looks very slick. I really don't like the look of a regular bell on a premium bike, but this is something you want people to notice rather than try to hide.I've seen comments that it doesn't make a sound once attached. I found the trick is to tighten it only as much as needed to stop it moving on the handlebar. Any tighter and the sound is killed. There's a sweet spot of about a 1/4 turn between when it moves around and when the sound goes flat. Properly attached the sound is fine, although there are louder bells out there.Lastly, build quality. If you're rough with it, it might break, but if you handle it normally it should be fine.Cons: on a road bike the cable routing gaps are mostly useless as they're at the bottom of the bell rather than the front, which limits the mounting options.Overall, good bell, I'm very happy with it.
Creative design and minimal space required. In the store, it had a nice ring tone. I bought the large for my Specialized Hard Rock on the recommendation of the REI bike tech. It was WAY too large and I never saw any spacer in the box to make it fit. I took it back and got a small. It was WAY too small and the ringer was pathetic. I wish I had read the reviews on line prior to purchase.
