Kwikset Tylo Entry Knob and Single Cylinder Deadbolt Satin Nickel

I'm 100% pleased with this product. However, I am enormously unhappy that the instructions were in such tiny print (and on a gray shaded background) that I could barely read them. I installed the lock by myself but it was difficult to do so alone. I believe the installation would best be done with two people: with one person to read the instructions to the one doing the installation.

Had purchased other similar Kwiksets before and always liked how easy they were to install. Handles can be a little tricky at times but once you get them lined up properly they are a breeze.This was to replace an old handle from the 70s that finally gave out. So far the other ones have been on my house for 10+ years with no issues.

We purchased 2 separate sets. One was used on an outside door. The 2nd on an inside apartment door in an 3 family home. All 4 keys opened all 4 locks. If we gave keys to the outside door to all the tenants, they would all have access to the first floor apartment. We found it strange that if 2 unconnected people bought these locks they could enter each others homes. We hired a handy man to install this then had to ask him to come back to install a new lock. Where is the quality control?

I am the building super. I change the lock sets every tenant change. I have used Kwikset locks before and No Problemo!This time the second screw holding the deadbolt lock together wouldn't go all the way in. I tried using the other screw which was fine in the other hole of the lock,No good! Even tried older screws.No good! With the lock In My Hand the screw still didn't engage properly. The thread inside the deadbolt lock was defective so I returned the set.

Bad quality

We purchased this item recently, and were deeply disappointed about its poor quality. While its polished brass appearance looks OK, its inner mechanism definitely indicates poor material and poor craftsmanship. Specifically, its central pole is made of plastic instead of metal, which renders itself vulnerable. Its bolts lack a refined surface with no chrome or brass coating. Rather, their dull and rough appearance makes them look like used parts. Also, the bolts sit loosely in their frame, which affects the way the door is closed. The worst thing happened when we tightened up the two long screws to fasten the upper lock and found that the bolt got stuck and was unable to turn. It took us more than an hour trying to install the lock and then having to take it apart for store return. The quality of this door lock by Kwikset is so poor that even our original lock installed about twenty years ago functioned better than it did. Where is Kwikset's quality guarantee and quality control, we may ask? This being the case, we strong recommend against the purchase of this item.

Completely Happy

I’m completely happy with this set. They look great and installation was reasonably easy. In the final steps there are two screws that have to be threaded “blindly.” Practice makes perfect. Took three or four tries but finally worked. Not the fault of the product; just the way locks are designed.

God awful

Installing it was impossible. Getting the screws to line up while installing the bottom lock was impossible. When I finally got them to (mostly) line up I then couldn’t even get them open with the key or move the latch.Home Depot allowed me to return it and when buying a replacement from the brand Deviant everything lined up perfectly and I spent far less time installing that one than just trying to get one screw to line up with this one.

Hard to use.

I only bought this knob because I was in mill work buying a door. I was on aisle 42, the knobs are on aisle 2 and being handicapped I didn’t won’t to walk all the way to hardware. I bought this because it was on an end cap right next to me. The guy who installed by door put in the knob that I bought, my fault, but I will change it out soon. The knob is polished metal that defies a grasp. It hangs up often on the striker plate. It is a cheap, and poor knob that works poorly and I wish I had not bought.

They are very easy to install by your self, the handle you actually don't have to line up the screw to meet the outside handle, it is actually one of the easiest sets I have installed. To door closes very smooth, I got these to replace a brinks brand, which never closed easily. This are preconfigured to be mounted on a left hung in-swing door, if you are mounting on a right hung in-swing door you will either have the key slot on the handle upside down or just have to pop the cylinder out and rotate it and it will look correct, there are plenty of videos on how to do this. Rekeying the locks is very simple, honestly if you are capable of unlocking a door with a key you are capable at rekeying these locks. The kit comes keyed alike but if you are replacing more then one you will want to rekey at least one set. Each kit comes with a pair of keys for each lock, so a total of 4 keys. And finally the color in the picture is not exact, it is not as dark as the picture, honestly the picture of the deadbolt is very accurate but the handle is too dark in the picture, but if you already have this style and color in your house it is going to be a perfect match.

Knob quality is sketchy, don’t buy

The quality of the knobs and locks on the knobs is horrible. Had significant difficulty rekeying 2 out of 3. When locking/unlocking the lock mechanism is very hard to turn, grinds. No issue with the deadbolts. All 3 I installed without difficulty and operate smoothly. These were $20 less per set that the similar set available in store, imagine the $20 goes into the quality of the knobs. Not that it matters but came jammed in the smallest cardboard box. I don’t suspect they will last long on my rental property which is why I bought them; to re key between tenants rather than continuing to swapping out new hardware. Don’t by these. Try something else.
