This backpack is a game changer for me becuse I have 2 little ones and traveling with this is so convenient to pack all of our stuff especially on the plane. Very easy access and the laptop holder is great if you have a laptop or iPad and even if you don’t, I love using it for puzzles and workbooks. It’s always great to have that seperate pocket. The side pockets don’t really hold my water bottle but I definitely use them for sunglasses, keys, sunscreen.. etc..Believe me they come in handy:) very impressed with this backpack!

It's a little costly but honestly, if you're getting a Kanken it's for the fashion and they do look great, every color I've seen has been pleasant to look at. Build quality is rock solid, no visible seams or stitches are apparent. The boxy shape of this bag is best for carrying books (or in my case, board games) but I've found myself gravitating to this one as my go-to city bag for the comfort and convenience of the top carry handles. A little pricey for what you get, but we’ll constructed. Roomy in the main compartment, but I prefer a couple pockets inside my bag for loose items like pens. It has one exterior pocket which has room for a couple smaller items, and then two slip pockets on the side. The side pockets for water bottles are pretty slim, especially if you have a lot in your bag or items that fit from one side to the next like a laptop. I have a couple water bottles that won’t fit at all. The laptop pocket is also very tight with the foam pad. I will need to remove the pad. I am pretty small at 5’ and not a bigger person, and the backpack is a bit smaller. I’m a teacher, so I need to carry books and folders along with my laptop, so this will be a tight squeeze this year.

I have not used my backpack yet. I bought it fir next year s trip to Europe. We are going hand luggage only to avoid losses and because mature age and last time was hard with too much luggage.This little backpack weighs very little a nd will be my handbag for flights. I can fit water bottle, umbrella, pr light shoes, puffer vest, make up and creams, other handbag stuff.I think it won t drag on my shoulders and you can make it stand. I am considering buying strap pads available on line for extra comfort. I have two other soft foldable backpacks, may take one also.

I am finding that it is a little hard to get used to the squareish shape, when I go to put binders in my bag I have to unzip the entire front because the bag is so deep. This means it holds quite a lot though! Further, it has one less pocket than my previous Sketchers backpack, so I am readjusting to putting all of my things into one primary pocket with no dedicated place to put my hard drive or assorted toiletries (the two small pockets suffice fine). I am really happy with the size of the water bottle pockets, there are two on the 17” and they hold my small Stanley. I love the way the bag feels on my back, even with my laptop and books ... Overall really nice!
I've had these backpacks in about every size and several colors. They hold a lot without making you look like an ascent of Kilimanjaro is on your afternoon agenda. And the detective Saskia Vogels carries one in that great import mystery series, Professor T. What more could you ask of a bag? Okay. It keeps the rain off your gear, you can challenge yourself to find skinny things to stash in the side pockets (I lean towards Ken dolls and Red Vines) and the straps slip off your shoulders in an alluring manner, if you don't keep hauling them up. So, not perfect for everyone, but pretty darned perfect for some.
I really do not like this backpack for school or traveling. If you use this backpack for your laptop or as a carry on for your travels, be prepared for red marks on your shoulders. I highly recommend pairing this backpack with a thick hoodie to avoid discomfort. For the price and recognition that this backpack has, I would expect some form of cushioning, however, there is no cushion on the straps. This backpack is very simplistic so yay for the minimalists out there but in terms of comfort and quality, it is a hard pass.

I was really shocked as my daughters mini has done none of this even after a year of use. I contacted Moosejaw customer service and they were amazing. She immediately sent a label for me to exchange for free and said they would honor my original discount upon reorder. I thought maybe this particular one was defective. Idk why there was no option to choose this color which is the one I bought lol but it is the Terracotta Brown. There were no reviews for this color when I purchased so I decided to show some pictures (w flash and without). I love this backpack!! I’ve had it for two months now and it still looks new. The straps are a little short for my taste so make sure to check that out if it’s a concern for you. I did compare this color to the spicy orange in store and this one is a bit darker. Just fyi because they look pretty similar on the website.
I’ve had the regular Kanken for a while, and can’t believe what I’ve been missing! The Kanken No. 2 is such a nicely made bag. The G-1000 material is way better, and love the leather detail. Such a classy look for an already timeless piece. Shoutout also to the Moosejaw team for the awesome customer service that helped me solve a hiccup I caused with my shipping address. You’re the best.
