2024 Linea Mini

I love my new machine. This is the second machine I have bought from Chris’s coffee and there. sales and service are outstanding. I will never buy a machine anywhere else. Upgraded from a Vehicle Rocket 58 V2. The La Marzocco certainly makes pulling a perfect shot easy. I am using the integrated scale and find that it makes my morning routine simple. I strongly recommend both the machine and Chris coffee… they are willing to spend as much time as you need to help you use the machine correctly and diagnose and fix any problems that come up on your own.

I had a 10-year-old Profitec Pro 700 for home use that was starting to fail me (major to semi-major repair 1-2 times a year), so I was looking for a new machine. I have been dreaming of a La Marzocco at home for years, so I finally decided to pull the trigger when this new, 2024 version of the LĆnea Mini came out. It took about 2 months to receive it (I ordered the black version), and I set it up a few weeks back.It only took only a day to dial in a wonderful espresso that is extremely consistent from day to day. I use Redbird Mountain High espresso when trying to dial in a new grinder or machine, and the consistency, appearance and flavors this machine brings out of this coffee is simply amazing. I taste new flavors that I didn’t even know were there, and I have been using this coffee for years. The shots have a beautiful tiger stripe swirl to them, and the consistency (ā€˜mouth feelā€ if you are a hipsterā€) is wonderful. I haven’t even changed any of the factory settings, and it’s just about perfect for my taste. I am excited to try other coffees once I am satisfied that I know the machine. The milk frothing wand was a lot to get used to with the small, 120z pitcher I use at home, but I love it now. Basically, the La Marzocco steaming power compared to the Profitec is like a fire hose versus a garden hose. With my old machine, I would probably spend around 10-20 seconds steaming a 12oz milk pitcher of milk, depending on how hot the steam boiler was set. The first few times I steamed with the La Marzocco, I sprayed milk everywhere and my ā€œheat sensingā€ hand on the bottom of the pitcher got scalded a few times. I tried turning down the steam power in the app (discussed below) and only opening the knob a bit, but this produced poor quality microfilm. I finally figured out that the entire steaming process with this machine takes about 4-5 seconds for a 12oz pitcher and is achieved mainly through the churning of the milk in a vortex, as opposed to stretching the milk with air with the wand just at the surface, as with most home machines. I start with the wand tip right in the middle of the pitcher, submerged just to the line where the tip attaches to the wand proper, open up the knob, let it hiss for about a second, then angle the pitcher and submerge the tip further for a few seconds as the milk churns in a vortex. The result is incredibly smooth and sweet microfoam that has really taken my milk drinks to a new level. The LĆnea Mini has a lot of great features, and I especially like the app that connects to the machine. It’s is very easy to set an on/off schedule, change boiler temp, steam power, etc. I have found it to work pretty much without fault, and am happy to have many aspects of ā€œcoffee lifeā€ made easier. In all, I am very happy with this machine. Of course, it is early days, and we shall see how it holds up, but so far so great. Finally, a word about the wonderful customer service at Chris Coffee. I worked with Mark, and he was extremely helpful and responsive throughout the ordering and waiting processes. I highly recommend buying through these guys. They are smart, friendly and really know their coffee.

Great machine, amazing support
23 December 2022

This is an amazing machine that is so consistent that it has helped me learn how to get the most out of my coffee. I bought the machine from Chris Coffee because they are known for providing excellent technical service. After two years of continuous use, I finally had a reason to call, and I was really impressed with the service that I received. Sam, one of the technicians, researched the issue I was having and spent the time needed to help me verify and fix the problem. I’ve had espresso machines for more than 20 years, and you have to expect some maintenance from time to time. The LM is no different in that regard. Just make sure you buy from a reputable dealer that will provide great support. Absolutely no regrets here. I’m looking forward to many more years.

I like the machine, but it’s expensive to maintain
22 July 2023

I still love, but the longer I own it, and the more I deal with LaMarazocca, the more I realize both the machine and the company have issues. As for the machine, I’m still replacing one of the valves every 8-12 months as part of what the company claims is ā€œannual maintenanceā€ (about $200 if you have it professionally). More recently, I did their recommended software upgrade and the machined failed to restart. I contacted the company rep and they claimed the failure was related to some switches on the motherboard that were incorrectly configured in a small number of machines they sent out. They sent instructions on how to fix it; cost me over $300 and took the company I use for the ā€œannual maintenanceā€ more than 2 hours to figure out. I upgraded from an already
10 September 2021

I upgraded from an already top-notch machine I'd had for 7 years - the La Spaziale Mini Vivaldi. But the differences are obvious. The Linea is built so solidly, with no fussy electronics, it's really a joy to use and the overall experience in making espresso is important. The shots are far more consistent and better extracted given the rotary pump and I suspect more even temperature control. Texture more than flavor I think is the bigger difference since the La Spaziale is a fine machine. The only problem I'm having is that the steam wand is so powerful, it is very hard to get properly steamed silky milk in low volumes, ie for one latte. Clive Videos aren't helping much despite following instructions carefully. It is just very tricky not to inject too much air and have foam instead of not just stretched milk, though by varying the power of the steam I'm gettting some improvements. You don't need 'latte art' to have a great latte or macchatio or cappucino though, the Italians did without it for decades! And the lattes and macchiatos with the Linea have been outstandingly good.

La Marzocco Linea Mini Espresso Machine Black
20 January 2021

This machine is producing excellent espresso and cappuccino. The WiFi control was easy to install and use (while app functionality is unfortunately limited so some basics, I will prefer if I can set and read brewing water temperature instead of rotating wheel). The Line Mini is heavy duty, and has nice design. It is little large for small kitchen (but it fits under cabinet). The controls are a little crazy: temperature adjustment wheel has 80 steps, no reference point (only option is to count forty steps to be for example in the middle of the range), they are are number like 188.6 F, 192.2 (if you are wondering why 192.2 F = 89 Celsius; 188.6 F = 87 Celsius; La Marzocco engineers thought that this is good enough for american folks). These details puts smile on your face, you know it is not designed by Apple...

The Linea Mini is a work horse, sharp looking, quiet, and more than capable of pulling shot after shot at a stable temperature. I think that is one of the reasons this machine really shines - very precise temperature adjustment and stability due to the integrated group. Fine tuning the flavor profile with temperature is something you can do with this machine. The application works great and I can control the LMLM at home or remotely but it does require a 2.4 GHz WiFi to connect. Mark was very polite and answered all my questions and helped me find the right machine to replace my 8 year old machine previously purchased from Chris' Coffee. The machine came on a pallet and all wood accents were already installed. I plumbed my machine so if you do this make sure to adjust the pressure down when you hook up the water supply. It comes set up to take water from the reservoir but if you use your water supply there is some line pressure that requires turning the pump pressure down. Initially I was at "11"!
