A great choice for a first pair

I bought a pair of women's Mythos three years ago, and still use them occasionally. As a beginner climber I found these shoes extremely comfortable, especially when climbing outdoors on long hot days. I would highly recommend these shoes if you live in an area with slab climbing. While these shoes were great as a beginner, I found that my climbing plateaued around 10c-11a in these shoes; the lack of stiffness and support in the rubber makes small crimp foot holds and overhang challenging. I have switched over to a pair of Miuras when climbing higher grades and overhang. Overall I am happy with the fit of the shoes, the adjustable laces and leather feel like they have molded around my low volume narrow foot. My review is directed for climbers who are wondering why it would be necessary to splurge in ~$130 shoes when you can find perfectly good climbing shoes for much lower.First, comfort: they are SO comfortable because they mold to your feet and shaped very ergonomically. The leather is well conditioned and very high quality, the moment you slip them on, I felt the difference in comfort compared to synthetic material.Second, technicality: part of the comfort comes from it being flat soled shoes. However, the Mythos still wins technicality points by coating the shoes with extra-sticky rubber makes it easy for me to climb onto little chips with confidence. Also, the laces will conform and fit your feet the way you want- tight for aggressive moves; loose if climbing all day.Third, versatility: these are great for slabs, sticking them into off-width cracks without causing pain in your feet (at least bearable degree of pain), smearing off walls, all day multi pitch, or even just walking around in the crag. The only thing they are not good for: Heel hooks or toe hooks for obvious construction. Also, the price point... I am used to buying discount shoes for less than $50 -- usually great downward toe shoes like Shamans, etc. The mythos were a last minute, last resort purchase because I didn't have good all day shoes for an imminent climbing trip. After trying them out on the big wall, these give me the technicality, confidence, and comfort (usually all three do not go hand in hand with many of climbing shoes) I'm glad I made the decision. I will be resoling these a couple times and I will make room for my budget to invest in a pair every couple years. If you're a newbie, I don't think it's totally necessary to spend over 100 bucks on a pair of climbing shoes. Plenty of shoes out there that will serve as great shoes and with great value. Think of it as purchasing a really expensive bike while you're learning how to bike.Sizing: I have 6.5 street size. I purchased 36.5 but they felt way loose after one day of multipitch. I ended up switching for 36 (smallest that REI carries) so that I can climb in them without feeling like stepping on empty space of my toes. I am afraid after a couple resoles they might be too loose for me to continue wearing. We'll see.All in all: great shoes if you're looking for comfortable but sticky all day outdoor climbs.

I wanted something with a snug but not tight fit for long multipitch days and cracks (I already have the super great death tight shoes that I can only wear for a few laps before I have to cry - Fiveten Anasazi Pro's, they're awesome). The 41 (translates to a women's 9.5) is perfect; my toe and heel touch the front and back of the shoe, but nothing is crammed in too tight. What I love and what makes the so comfy is that you can completely dial in how they fit on every part of your foot. I loosened them up a bunch at the toe so there's plenty of room up there, and tightened them up over my arch and at the heel. They're basically painted onto my feet. The leather is buttery and delightful and so comfy, right out of the box. I've only worn them a few times to climb so far and I don't feel like the comfort comes at a huge sacrifice of performance at all. It's not like I'm not gonna use them to try and send V8 or anything, so I don't find myself wanting for more aggression out of them. For long moderate routes and all-day comfiness, I'm sold.

Great For Slab and Crack Climbing
18 November 2016

I love these shoes. They are marshmallows on my feet! Super comfy and made well. Material is soft and the rubber makes its way all around the sides of the shoe and not just the toe box making it great for wedging your feet into crevices and not having to worry about the grip. Also, the toe box makes it great for slab climb since you have more surface area to utilize. I love these shoes for most rock climbing and long climbs but prefer my Muiras for bouldering and overhangs. For reference I am street shoe 8 and I wear a 37.5 in both these and the Muiras. You won't regret these shoes! Just make sure you get the proper sizing.

Great shoes, run very large
31 July 2018

I previously climbed in La Sportiva Tarantulace in a size 37.5. I read that the Mythos run large, so I ordered a 37. When I received them, they were way too big-- in fact, the Mythos in a 37 was ~.25" longer than the Tarantulace in a 37.5. I thought this was odd as both shoes are pretty basic, non-aggressive, comfortable builds by the same brand.Anyway, regardless of this, once I got the right size (36), they are fantastic shoes. I've worn them on multipitch climbs without changing out of them to belay and they are still comfortable. For the most, part I'm using them for both indoor and outdoor climbing, single pitch and multi pitch, top roping and leading, and I climb a large range of difficulties and types of climbs. Really really comfy shoes

Very comfy shoes. But do recommend the downsize - even smaller than your usual la sportiva shoes. I have another 37.5 La sportiva Solution - which I feel perfectly secured, I think with Mythos I should go for 37 or even 36.5 to feel more snuggled. But it really depends if you want a comfy shoes and pick the same size as your other la sportiva.

Ruined all other shoes for me
27 February 2020

I've been climbing for a while now and these just do it for me. For big wall stuff, they're comfortable. For cracks, BEAUTIFUL. Even for overhanging stuff even though they're not the most aggressive shoe they get the job done. I wore through my first pair till my toe was poking through and tried to switch to a more aggressive pair but found myself coming back to these. The only downfall I've experienced is my laces rip from sticking them in cracks so much but that's a very easy/cheap fix. :)

The unicorn of climbing shoes
29 September 2019

So happy that I snagged these. I have narrow feet and super high arches so I'm tough to fit- but most of the time I don't even feel the need to take these off when belaying. These felt amazing right out of the box, took virtually no breaking in and are perfect for anybody looking for versatility vs. a specialist shoe. I prefer this lacing system style over the alternatives since you can loosen them all the way down to the toes when needed. Bonus points for being a badass looking shoe- I get compliments on them every single time I wear them. LOVE!

These are the Cadillac of climbing shoes!

I absolutely love my Mythos. They are super comfortable, and just what I wanted. They are certainly not aggressive shoes, and I have had occurrences where a more aggressive shoe would have been helpful (these don't smear great) - but I can wear those shoes all day long and my feet never hurt, I never have blisters and I don't have to take them off between climbs.I've had these shoes as my primary shoes for over a year, mostly gym climbing 3-5/a week, and several outdoor trips in Joshua Tree/Pinnacles and the rubber is still good. I will certainly resole when it comes time.I wear a 6.5/7 in my normal shoes and am a 38 (aka 7) in these - unlike my aggressive shoes that I had to size up to a 9.5 in just to get my foot into.Would highly recommend these, especially ... MoreI absolutely love my Mythos. I've been bouldering in these for about 9 months. I was super worried about buying too small of shoes. Street size is 7.5 and I bought these in a 6. They really did stretch and mold to my foot. I can comfortably wear them for a couple hours. These were the shoes I bought when I first started climbing and they have gotten me through the beginning learning curve. I'm climbing v5 now, indoors. I wore these climbing outside once, but there aren't many outdoor climbing spots in my state so I haven't tested them much in that realm. The rand on the right shoe peeled back where it bends pretty early on but it hasn't really gotten worse. They've flattened out a bit over time. I climb maybe 5-6 hours a week on average. If I'm still using them down the road, I'd like to get them resoled and see if they get some new life in them. I love the shoe and am more than happy that I picked it when I had no idea what I was doing.
