They are the least sweaty of the GTX shoes I have owned.I'm walking, not running, and looking for a shoe that let's me do more and keep going. Hoping LaSportiva keeps making this shoe. These are the best I've found.

I am not sure what took me so long to write this review, but I must say that I absolutely love these shoes! I bought them in early 2019 for a hiking trip to Spain (the Camino de Santiago) and have since used them extensively for hiking through the mountains and hills of California. Even though the tread on the soles is a little worn at this point, they're still as comfortable as they were on the first hike I took in them. I use orthotics for my flat feet and bought them a half-size bigger and they've been great! No blisters or hot spots ever! This is especially important due to the fact that my wife bought another brand for our Spain trip and had blisters after day two. I am in the market to get a new pair of boots/shoes and will definitely get another pair since I ... MoreI am not sure what took me so long to write this review, but I must say that I absolutely love these shoes! I purchased this shoe for a trip my wife and I recently took to hike the Jungfrau region of the Swiss Alps. It was amazingly comfortable straight out of the box, with no break in needed. We did a number of hikes with more than 2,700 vertical ft of climbing with no foot fatigue or hot spots. These truly are all day shoes!Side note, I accidentally bought two pairs when I ordered and was going to return the extra pair, but have decided to keep them for when the first pair eventually wears out. I always loved my various La Sportiva climbing shoes and these hiking shoes carry on that excellence. They do however run slightly small so I sized up a half size as others have suggested.

I am not the most experienced outdoorsman, but I have put a few different brands through the ringer, from marathon training in trail running shoes to climbing the Grand Teton, for whatever that's worth. I have always liked La Sportiva, so I was thrilled to find these shoes on sale a few days before a trip I was planning to Mt Blanca.I only had time to put about 12-15 miles into the shoes, mostly on flat ground, before heading to southern Colorado. 10-15 miles doesn't seem like an adequate break in period to me personally, so naturally I was worried I'd end up with tape all over my feet by the end of the weekend, but I had to give them a shot. Again, I've had good experience with the brand.I have a relatively average size 11 foot, as far as I can tell. I would have liked the arch to be a little higher in the shoe, but then again no other competitive brand suits my weirdly high arches. I tried putting a high arch insole into the shoe, ended up putting the factory one back in. The only other La Sportiva shoes I've owned were climbing shoes and approach shoes, which both had somewhat cramped toe boxes, and I assume that's by design--for the intended purpose. I noticed my toes were snug in the toe box, not cramped, but far more snug than other brands of trail running/hiking shoes I'd tried. This, I noticed later in the steeper parts of the easy class 2 parts of Blanca, made me feel even more secure in my footwork, as if I were wearing climbing shoes that some how hadn't felt like climbing or approach shoes during the miles of hiking to get near the peak. An exquisite balance of comfort and performance in rocky, steep terrain. Also I should mention they lace up very well. There's probably some industry terms to describe the engineering of grommets or whatever that reduce the backslide of laces while attempting to tighten up your boot strings but I lack the jargon. Suffice to say, it's good. The only negative things I can mention, I can just as easily rationalize away, but here they are. Obviously the "Spire GTX" are constructed using Gore-Tex. Gore-Tex may be breathable, but you're feet do get warm. This was noticeable in the late Texas summer, but not much of a problem at 11,000-14,000 feet in the Southern Rockies. Also the narrow toe box made down hiking a little uncomfortable, despite these shoes being sized appropriately to my feet. That being said, I didn't have a single blister by the time all was said an done. Just some slightly tender pinky toes that I had the sense to tape up when they started feeling hot.All in all, I consider these to be excellent shoes. Again, I got them on sale, but knowing what I know now, if these shoes got carried away tomorrow by a pack of wild dogs (which did happen to me and a different pair of shoes three years ago in Taos) I would absolutely buy them again at full MSRP.Pictures show shoes covered in dust from 20 miles of stomping around the Blanca Massif, minor wear expected.
I recently bought these as a lighter shoe to accompany the Mid GTX I bought last year. This shoe is fantastic and checks off many boxes for me. I appreciate how light they are, the sturdiness is very noticeable, and the traction is fantastic. The heel construction allows for a very easy & natural gait, which I appreciate. Great shoe and recommended!
Just ordered my third pair of these shoes. The first two I put through the wringer and only replaced after wearing them out. This is an excellent 3-season hiking shoe, but living in Southern California it effectively works as a 4 season pair for me. Burlier than a trail runner, but way more comfortable and lighter than a standard hiking boot. These are my go to for everything from backpacking trips and day hikes. Comfortable enough to wear around camp too. I only wear La Sportiva and found that sizing translates well between all their shoe styles.
Purchased these after poring through reviews for technical low hikers/approach shoes. I wore them for a week and immediately purchased a second pair I liked them so much. I rarely do that before gauging a shoes durability but was convinced within a week that I would be replacing them with the same shoe. They do run very large so I had to send a few back to get the right fit. They're very roomy as a technical hiker/approach should be for carrying loads so that caused me to size down a full size. One of the most breathable if not the THE most breathable goretex shoe I've owned.Fantastic low boot.
I bought my pair on a trip to Iceland recently in the only clothing store I could find open on a Sunday in Reykjavik, and they saved my feet for sure. The next day I climbed a steep, rocky path to visit an extinct volcano, the day after that hiked up a glacier to drink direct from the source, and over the next several days climbed up and down many hills to visit waterfalls. I was expecting blisters; I had none. I knew nothing about this brand prior to buying these boots (I don’t do much hiking and don’t know much at all about hiking boots), and my choices frankly were limited to what brands this small store carried and what sizes were available. I can’t believe my luck finding something that fit so well, required zero break in, and was comfortable from the moment I ... MoreI bought my pair on a trip to Iceland recently in the only clothing store I could find open on a Sunday in Reykjavik, and they saved my feet for sure. I can’t believe my luck finding something that fit so well, required zero break in, and was comfortable from the moment I put them on. They are lightweight, kept my busy feet from drowning in sweat and, as they’re a low-slung model, avoided any ankle-bone chafing that has irritated me in the past with brief encounters with standard hiking boots. I admit that I went to Iceland unprepared for just how rigorous it would be (Hoka sneakers are fine for all the walking I do in the hospital, but Iceland demands proper boots). These boots saved me for sure. I hate to think of how my much-anticipated trip would have turned out without them, and I know what’ll go in my bag first for my next adventure.
I bought these shoes to replace my Trail Ridge Low 10.5. I love the narrow width of La Sportiva Shoes, and was looking forward to this pair. I ordered the same size as my TL-Low (10.5) and these Spire GTX were WAY to big. I returned them for a 10.0, which were the right length, but the width is very wide for my feet. I've hiked in them for 2 days and they are very uncomfortable with a lot of heal slip. I also have to cinch them all the way such that my feet hurt in order to have a decent fit. I think they would be fine for the right foot, but I'm disappointed that La Sportiva has such variability in their sizing. And unfortunately they no longer make the Trail Ridge Low.
I bought these shoes several weeks ago ahead of a big backpacking trip on the AT. I just got back from the trip and enjoyed these shoes so much I felt compelled to give a review.I am a college student who does a decent amount of outdoor activities and wanted something versatile that could handle everything from day hikes to big backpacking trips. The waterproof material keeps all water out as long as it stays below the top of the shoe.I was really impressed with the grip of these shoes. There were some times on the trail where I wish I had the extra ankle support of a taller boot but the vibram grip on these still kept up really well. Just make sure you're very conscious with your foot placement and you'll be good.I personally really like the design of these shoes. I know the bright green isn't for everyone but it's used in moderation here and I like the green accent. The the outside of the shoe has held up really well so far and they are super breathable even while being waterproof. The mid-grade nature of these shoes means that they're not super heavy or bulky but they're still pretty tough, waterproof and provide all the necessary means for hiking on tough trails.Yes, these shoes are a bit pricey but I think its a worthy investment when it comes to an activity like hiking/backpacking where you don't want any doubts about your gear.In the future I will continue to use these for day hikes, backpacking trips and even walking to class on rainy days. They're great, versatile shoes and I highly recommend them.
