So I just got back from hiking the Pawnee Buchanan Loop in CO wearing these boots and I'm in love. No blisters or even hot spots to mention! They are fully waterproof up to the cuff and even when I did go all the way into the water up to my knee, they stayed comfortable and dried surprisingly quickly. The lacing system is simple and effective and stayed tied all day once double knotted securely. The outsole performed well on a variety of surfaces too! They gripped on granite slabs, scree, wet logs and rocks, snow crossing and so much more. I know you might not believe that my pack was actually 50lbs, but my wife (she wore the Saber GTX Wmn) and I did this loop with our baby, so I had to carry all her gear as well as mine for two nights/three days. Fit my fat foot too (I'm EE width), but I think the way the tongue is gusseted that it would fit a variety of foot volumes.

I’ve had these boots for about 4 months and worn them on wet, muddy hikes and multiple days hiking through snow and ice around Quebec City. My feet have stayed dry and warm in any conditions so far, paired with some merino socks of course. The vibram sole grip is excellent and I feel sure footed in these on almost any terrain, only solid patches of ice were a little slippery. They’re quick to lace up and the laces cinch tight, although they did seem thin and fragile at first they’ve held up. They did start to fray just slightly in one area but it has not torn. Not significant enough of an issue for me to lower the rating. The footbed does feel a bit elevated in the heel compared to some other boots I’ve tried on and had in the past but it’s comfortable for all day ... MoreI’ve had these boots for about 4 months and worn them on wet, muddy hikes and multiple days hiking through snow and ice around Quebec City. Definitely recommended, esp was a GTX non leather hiking boot option.

My first impression - extremely comfortable, excellent grip and overall fantastic. But unfortunately these shoes have their kryptonite - wet snow. And not even a deep one - as soon as it reaches the vamp, cold water seeps into the shoe (i was wearing gore-tex gaiters, but did not expect to get wet in such shallow areas). And after that - any puddle can add more chilly water to mix into the sock. At first I thought one shoe is just defective, but when the second one got just as wet, the odds for a defect became slim.I cannot say how well the moisture is wicked out of the shoes by the surround system, as my shoes were soaked all the time. They dry just as long as regular gore-tex shoes though. If these shoes are not meant to carry through wet areas, then there is no ... MoreMy first impression - extremely comfortable, excellent grip and overall fantastic. My guess would be that the seams where gore-tex is sewn are not sealed, especially in the throat area.5 stars for comfort when dry5 stars for an excellent grip-2 stars for water-tightness

The only other pair of Sportiva I own are rock climbing shoes, and briefly the heavier upper version of this the Pyramids, but I would say for my medium wide short feet, finding a good fit was difficult, typical profile of skinnier LS shoes. I bought these specifically for large elevation gain day hikes. As advertised, these shoes start to do work on the descent. With a semi-proper fit, I haven't had any other boots that gave me as much stability and control descending. The mid sole cushioning is decent, but lacks arch support. Definitely helped by an aftermarket insole. In various conditions both on and off trail, I've been impressed by the platform and grip that these shoes provide. I've dared to take a couple off-path shortcuts that I knew I wouldn't had the gall ... MoreThe only other pair of Sportiva I own are rock climbing shoes, and briefly the heavier upper version of this the Pyramids, but I would say for my medium wide short feet, finding a good fit was difficult, typical profile of skinnier LS shoes. Definitely helped by an aftermarket insole. In various conditions both on and off trail, I've been impressed by the platform and grip that these shoes provide. I've dared to take a couple off-path shortcuts that I knew I wouldn't had the gall to do if I didn't trust in the capabilities of this shoe. The treads wear decently, after moderate use and light abuse, only very light irreparable damage was sustained, mostly chipped from the straighter edges of the outer lugs. The cons of this shoe mostly surround issues of my fit with the front toe box. I spent a lot of time trying on different sizes, but with no wide option I ended up going for the 8.5s. The narrower profile impacted me in more ways than one. First, I couldn't use medium socks with thick insoles in these shoes. Even with lacing as loosely as possible, it was too tight and gave me blisters. I had to use thinner socks with medium thick insoles. Secondly for as much support the rest of the shoe has, the front toe box doesn't seem optimally structurally supported. Even when I lace it up tight it doesn't feel like it is snug, my big toe slides on horizontal descents. Maybe the rest of the shoe is just too well supported. Lastly it does not breathe very well. This is probably due to both the waterproof coating and such, but after long day hikes in these I definitely notice other shoes I have being more ventilated. Can't comment on the waterproofness of this shoe, have not really been tested except with light moisture.
Great all round boot. For winter the grip handles the snow and slush great. A little cool below -10c. However, this boot performed expertly though the changing terrain of snow, ice, gravel, mud and grass through a hike through Italy's Parco Regonal del Matese last week. Its lightweight but surefooted by always finding its grip and greatly reducing lateral slide/movement which inspired great confidence even over frozen leaves. Only criticism is the laces which should be of a higher quality and thicker - they are too narrow. If they put a little insulation in theses boots they could have a perfect winter boot to stand at the bottom of -20c slopes to cher on alpine racing!
These things are amazing. I am 100% on board with the gore tex surround. I otherwise refuse to by gore tex lined shoes because they take so long to dry, make my feet sweat, and dont stretch. I read a number of good reviews and decided to give these a go for the west coast trail since I expected my feet to be wet all the time anyway. Well my feet got wet, but not from sweat! Totally impressed. Somehow gore tex fixed all of those problems with the gore tex surround. My feet did not sweat at all, when they did get wet from stream crossings they actually dried very fast, within the same day, if they were a little damp at camp from late afternoon water crossing, i was able to pop out the liner and dry them by the fire no problem, next morning, comfy dry shoes. If there were no stream crossings that day, my feet stayed 100% dry, no sweat, no hot spots. Couldn't believe it. My other hiking shoe is the Salomon speed cross which i'll keep using for general backpacking, but honestly these give them a run for their money. Very light weight, comfortable, waterproof, higher ankle. I love my speed cross so i'll keep using them but if theres going to be significant mud, water, rain, im taking these instead!
This is my 6th pair of hiking shoes from LaSportiva in 1,5 years, and by far the worst. Previous models I have owned have always provided me with comfort and good hiking, although the quality have been terrible, none have lasted me more than 6-7 months. These shoes however are a dissaster, its like you didnt even test them before you put them on market. I broke them in on several 10-15 mile trips in the SoCal mountains, then took them on a 5 and an 8 day trip in the Washington wilderness. My feet have never ever before been in so much trouble and pain, I used all my emergency pain killers for the last 50 miles of my 8 day trip, and I could nearly not step on either of my feet. I have used the Nucleo high Gtx over the last 8 months on similar trips with no issues, (except from them breaking apart), but these shoes are an absolute dissaster. A real shame of a product. On top of this the shoe laces brooke on both shoes, from being wet!?!? And they are not even close to waterproof, but I didnt really expect that either. The bottom line is they ruined my feet and my trip, and that is a first for me with any shoes. I recommend you do NOT buy this product, and LaSportiva, you should discontinue this terrible shoe.
Writing a reveiw about hiking boots diffcult as each persons experience will be different. So Here is what I been impressed with. 1. light weight with support and a solid foot bed. I am not a fan of ulta light. I have owned ulta lights to find they cause impact issues with the ball of my foot. These boots are light with proper footbed support. 2. Good mid and side support. The sides are tight on my feet with good support. My feet are average in dimensions. This is important for me, as this is where most boots fail over time. 3. Traction, I walk on plastic membrane roofs where a little mositure makes the roof surface slippery. These boots have provided the best traction so far of any other boots previously owned. I found the same type if not a bit better with the La Sportiva Stream.
I purchased these boots for an upcoming trip because of their impressive light weight. My old boots are about 3.75 lbs (per boot!) so you can imagine my excitement to try something new. However, I ended up returning them due to the boots being comically narrow at the base of the toe box. To be specific, my actual toes were fine, but the area before the toes were in vice grips.I'm pretty sure I have "normal" feet and my feet are fine in every other pair of "normal width" shoes I've ever had. I probably needed another centimeter in width to be comfortable. La Sportiva got the length to width ratio wrong, at least for size 45. I guessed, from only looking at the soles, that they stretched out a smaller sized shoe to make the 45 but didn't bother to make it any wider. ... MoreI purchased these boots for an upcoming trip because of their impressive light weight. I guessed, from only looking at the soles, that they stretched out a smaller sized shoe to make the 45 but didn't bother to make it any wider. I imagine that a much smaller size would have better proportions.Fit aside, the boots seemed solidly constructed with a nice sticky grip and good breath-ability. The material for the breathable parts seemed a bit fragile but I suppose that's the balance you choose when getting these boots. They felt like comfortable running shoes along the footbed and had good support. Again, the weight of these shoes leaves nothing to be desired. I wish I could have tested its waterproof-ness and put the boot through real world conditions but alas, I couldn't get past the narrow fit.
The look of this boot is great, the features (i was looking for waterproof for carolina mountains in late summer and early spring) needed breathable. Ankle support isn't high but for me that is not an issue, the soles are very grippy. What was a challenge for me is this. I'm 6ft1in 160 lbs my arch measures 11.5 my foot width is C so not wide but not narrow. What i found (with any weight sock even running socks) was that the shoe was tight across my pinky toe which would deffinitely cause issues hiking. I may try to return and get a half size up (usually i am 11-11.5 so maybe with la sportiva a 12 will work). I'm not sure i want to do this however because there is no issue with the length i have 1.5 thumb width in length.. this could just be an issue with the braind ... MoreThe look of this boot is great, the features (i was looking for waterproof for carolina mountains in late summer and early spring) needed breathable. Its possible that it could "stretch" however my concern is that until it does even just walking around the house it is not comfortable.
