Best hiking boots ever!

Since I am coming from leather Merrell's from the past, I was very hesitant on the synthetic materials on these; however, these were amazing in terms of support and
comfort. They are super lightweight, water resistant and has tons of grip for rocky/wet terrain, which is perfect for California terrain. My friend and I just hiked the west side of
Trans Catalina Trail, which is 25+ miles and her feet were hurting from wearing Merrell Moab 3 Mid Waterproof ones. We wear the same size, so I offered to switch with her
and my feet were really hurting going downhill from Black Jack to Avalon (11miles) with the Moab's. Moab's are a lot heavier so the top part of my feet were sore... Show more

I bought these boots for a multi-day backpacking trip in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. They were perfect for all the very rocky terrain. This is my first pair of
higher-top boots and the ankle support was exactly what I was hoping for. At times we had to scale rocks and the grip on the soles was GREAT even in mild rain. I would give
the waterproofing 9/10. We traversed many puddles and water crossings. The inside was a little wet. I guess that could also be from foot sweat? I am also thankful for such a
solid boot that’s also vegan. Sizing was strange though and even though I’m a narrow in Birkenstocks I ended up with the Wide in this boot. They definitely run n... Show more

The La Sportiva's were super grippy on the sand and rocks while going downhill, but Moab's were not. I highly recommend to try them out if you do fit them. They do run small. I am usually a 35EU but ended up keeping the 37EU. They also clean super easily. I just sprayed it with my hose and all the dirt and mud came right off.... Show more

Do not buy this boot
1 July 2023
Bought these to replace a pair of Oboz that I loved (I had tried replacing the Oboz with another pair of the same shoe, but after 9 pairs falling apart within a week of wear around the house, I decided that I had given Oboz the benefit of the doubt and they had failed too many times) and thought they were comfortable in the store, where even though I tried to get help from one of the hiking boots people at the Lynnwood store, I was completely ignored and not given any help when there was only one other person looking at shoes. The two employees were only willing to get me shoes (and I tried on EVERY hiking boot in the store) but refused to help size me or find a boot. I had hoped that since this boot had been ranked one of the top hiking boots by the members (and I have been a member there since I was a young girl, and have always trusted member reviews there) that this boot would be comfortable and BOY WAS I WRONG! Within 5 minutes of leaving the house to walk the dog, my feet were KILLING ME! I noticed I was even walking funny just to keep my feet from hurting. I had to turn around and go home and find a different pair of shoes. I would definitely say if it wasn't for REI's great return policy, I would never shop there again, but after these last times trying to shop there, I probably won't anyways (at least not at their Lynnwood store).... Heartbreaking: perfect, but the uppers fall apart
30 August 2022
Pros: most comfortable hiking boots I've ever owned. Great traction, lightweight but supportive, reasonably water resistant. They require no break in and have never once given me a blister. I've taken them on multi-day backpacking trips, rock scrambles, and epic 20-mile peakbagging days without even a hotspot. They are the best hiking boots I've ever owned, bar none.Except for one thing... I've gone through 2 pairs of these, and even returned and exchanged the first one after just a few months. The issue is that the uppers / ankle area absolutely fall apart. Others have taken pictures of the same issues I have: if you brush your feet together, big holes happen quickly, and the back of the upper also starts to detach from the boot. After only a few months of ... MorePros: most comfortable hiking boots I've ever owned. I just had to throw out my second pair after just under one year with them since the uppers were destroyed and almost completely detached.... And even so, I might still keep buying them. They're that comfortable. If LS improves the material used in the uppers, I'd be a lifelong customer.... Show more

lots of love, but some things to conside

I have a lot of love for these hiking boots - i bought them when starting to work in adventure therapy and outdoor ed. Two years later, they are pretty toasted - the fabric covering on the side is all ripped up and exposing the inside of the boot, the traction on the boot is worn flat, and the sole is coming off. This boot is super light and breathable, and perhaps for that you pay in a lack of longevity. I'm so grateful that I didn't have to lug a heavy boots through my expeditions!! I used this boot through backpacking trips, disaster relief work, and day program work and they served me well. The cons are that they were never really waterproof. I had to step in a stream during a wilderness first responder scenario a week after I bought them and immediately got my socks wet. The traction wears fast and i felt unsteady on my backpacking trips where I had to go up rock slopes. The synthetic upper is prone to ripping and tearing. These shoes are amazing for day hiking and I think anyone who doesn't have rougher aspirations for them than some overnight backpacking will be really happy with them. Just don't count on them to last for years and years as you put miles on them.... Show more

Love these!
6 July 2023
I own a pair of La Sportiva trail runners but still read a lot of reviews for which hiking boot I'd want. Most of my hiking is done in Alaska on rocky, wet trails. These have held up to my wettest hikes, whether it was muddy or snow wetness. I also love how these stick to the trail.I find these boots true to size despite the reviews they are very narrow. I usually wear an 8 or 8.5 but get 8.5 in boots i'll probably wear warmer socks. These, like my shoes, really cup to the arch area of the foot but offer plenty of toe room. I can see if you don't like that fit you'd find it "narrow". I find them comfortable, my feet don't slide around and I only needed a couple of simpler hikes to break them in. I feel like I'm wearing a boot not the boot wearing me.... Show more

Not durable, no cushioning whatsoever
7 April 2023
I wore these for summer field work and only got 1 season out of them because the materials are not made for durability. While the fabric/synthetics construction makes them lighter weight and more breathable for summer than a leather boot, the fabric developed large holes all around after a couple of months. For their higher-end price tag, you could easily find a true hiking boot that will last you more than 1 season, so I don't consider this money well spent. The materials are basically those of a running shoe so you can expect to get the same amount of wear from these as you would a running shoe. Plus, I had soreness on the soles of my feet after wearing these for just a couple hours at a time, and my feet and knees were always killing me after a long day of work ... MoreI wore these for summer field work and only got 1 season out of them because the materials are not made for durability. I felt that the sole is hard and minimal with no cushioning. So stay away from these if you have knee or foot problems like plantar fascitis.2 stars for the benefits these boots do offer, which in my opinion are: good waterproofing and quick-drying when they did get wet, lightweight, ankle-hugging support and flexibility when on rocky terrain, and good tread on all types of surfaces. Also, they were a good fit on my narrow feet.... Show more

So far so perfect

I finally feel like I have the hiking under my belt to give a fairly accurate review of these boots. While life has gotten in the way, and I haven’t gotten to hike my max miles or backpack, I’ve tested them out on multiple hikes with a max 8 miles rocky and hilly hike. These boots offer the best traction I’ve ever had in a boot. I even spent today playing lava land and rock hopping on wet rocks and roots, up and down hills, following a rain. I’m usually a bit ginger but these boots really help me be secure.I ended up with the same size as my previous hiking boots and didn’t need to go up a size at all or go with the side version (I tried the others for comparison and they weren’t right). They seem super durable and went with the leather material over synthetic ... MoreI finally feel like I have the hiking under my belt to give a fairly accurate review of these boots. Took these to sub-arctic Labrador on a 36 day canoe trip.. absolute BEASTS!
20 August 2022
I went into MEC 2 months ago looking for a pair of boots that were going to get sopping wet and destroyed in sub-arctic Labrador wilderness. Days on trip consisted of portaging boggy burns without any trail, lining boats through high-water rocky, uneven, slippery rapids, and the occasional melted-boot by the campfire. These blew me away, they went way beyond my expectations.1. Design + FeelThe design of these boots are for narrower feet; they have good ankle support, but still provide adequate movement and feel graceful, not clunky. They only started blistering my feet on day 25, compared to day 3-10 of the rest of the group's boots. That was a win in my books. They also provided ample knee support and cushioning. There's a "hood" on the heel to help get the shoes on, which I really appreciated. Also, having to wade upstream for ~35km, the tough rubber/plastic surrounding the top of the toe helped to not get my foot stuck underneath boulders in strong current. There was enough traction to keep me gripping on very slippery, uneven, unstable river rocks while handling a boat (see 3rd image--I'm in the stern). Overall, great light boot, if I had to add anything, it would be just a bit better traction on smooth surfaces. I will say, they had very little insulation for cold days, but that's the expected tradeoff for a light boot.2. Durability.I was looking for the least waterproof shoes in the store so that they would dry faster after getting soaked from wading all day in our canoes. Nowadays everything is GoreTex. Unfortunately for me--but fortunately for most people--these shoes were surprisingly waterproof up to the heel, despite the thin fabric. They also held up extremely well, after 36 days of daily, 12hr+ use, there was *no significant damage*. The graphic on the side of the boot wore off, but that really didn't matter too much, they remained extremely functional; no holes, no pieces falling off, very little fraying. Out of our entire group, these boots held up the best--Against Oboz, Solomon, Keen, and some other big name brands.I was fully expecting to have to buy a new pair of boots after this trip for fall hiking, but I am blown away! I even had fellow group members asking me what brand my boots were. I've recommended them to everyone, will definitely be buying from La Sportiva from now on! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!... Show more
