This is my second helping of LaCie 1TB Portable USB 3.1 External SSD; my first purchase was for my photo files. These are fast, very lightweight, dependable, noiseless, and inexpensive - what's not to like? My second is for on-the-go back ups, and anything else that comes to mind. Plug it into your Thunderbolt and you are on your way.

My mac is always giving me errors for having a full hard drive/no memory. This portable external drive makes it super easy to clear up space and store all my files. If I need to switch computers, or take any files somewhere, i don't have to lug my laptop around, just unplug the hard drive and take it with you.

Yes its true this harddrive is amazing but you dont need to take my word for it. Everywhere you look this is consistently one of the top rated external SSDs out there. Theres a reason lacie drives are an industry standard in TV production(atleast where i live with 8 years professional experience). This drive is no exception. Its about as thick as my phone case, shorter than a credit card, and super lightweight. I feel comfortable taking this drive anywhere especially since its an SSD and i dont have to worry about any moving parts(ive definitely dropped a HDD or 2 on set in my day). Not to mention its fast af. USB naming conventions have gotten crazy but its 3.2 gen 2 which means it can theoretically reach 2000mbps. I tested this on am 18gb folder on a fairly new laptop(XPS13) and was able to get upwards of 580mbps with another 3.2 gen 2 ssd. But theres only one USB 3.2 gen 2 port on this laptop but even then it didnt go up much faster than 600(though it did peak around 1000 but it didnt hold it there for more than a second or 2 so i dont count that). I think it may be capable of faster speeds with larger files but YMMV. All in all its a great harddrive that i would definitely reccomend to someone that wants a hard drive but is to nervous to carry around an HDD like i am. This will definitely cut down on my transfer times which is what i wanted it for anyway
Having a portable external hard drive, especially with a big storage capacity, is a game changer. My computer was so full and moving so slow and when I backed up all my stuff to the hard drive and was able to clear some things out , it now runs so much more smoothly and I love it! It’s also great security to know I have all my files backed up in case my computer crashes. And it’s so compact.
I loved this product. It is really great to have a portable external drive. It is great to have to back up pictures and products. Having this I was able to clear my other devices so they ran more smoothly. It was easy to use and set up. I was able to hook it up and move my files to it. I love knowing that my files are backed up safely.
I got this to store photos and videos from my PC computer and my wife’s Mac. I’ve also downloaded photos and videos from my phone to my computer through iCloud to save on this hard drive to free up space on my phone. This hard drive has more than enough space for both my wife and my stuff. Easy to use and very small and compact compared to other hard drives I’ve seen.
I have 3 Lacie Rugged drives. I bout this is as a back-up drive for work files. It is small and light, it would be good for traveling, but I keep it in the office (I use the Rugged drives for travel and inevitable falls).
I love how portable this hard drive is! Fits in the palm of your hand and is ridiculously light. I use this to back up my older PC. It takes a fraction of the amount of time that a non-SSD drive would take to backup. Overall very pleased with this product.
Unfortunately this product wasn't compatible with the cord provided to attach to my MacBook Air and I couldn't find a cord that would work. Fortunately it was compatible with additional computers in our home. Loved how small and light the product is. Great for traveling to backup pictures. Love that it is 1TB also so don't need to have multiple devices.
