No thanks Seagate!! Even my old Drobo drives still work and will still show up on the desktop when I connect them. Even to the M2 Mac Studio!! So now the old 5Big is a boat anchor (of course backed up to other drives) and the new 2Big was DOA. The only silver lining is this happened before I began using it to store data!! Avoid avoid avoid!!

This drive is terrible and it crashed within days of ownership, setting it up, and transferred over 10k files which at the moment are not recoverable. Has it set up on my Mac in Raid 1. Both drives are down and I've spend hours working with Seagate...yes you read that correct! Lacie is a company now under Seagate. They sent me the recovery software to walked me through the steps, but now I have to send the drive in which will take 30 days or more with no other option. I'm 43 yrs old and this is the worst experience with an external drive I've ever had... not to mention I can't return it for a refund because I'll be past my 30 days due to this drive malfunction!!!! Stupid.

Since I don’t have Rosetta running on my Mac, I used my 2015 Intel MacBook Pro to set it up to RAID 1. It now works perfectly without any Seagate (LaCie) drivers or software on my M1 Mac and has never given me an unexpected disconnect warning so it seems it is the Seagate software not the hardware that can be a problem. The speed of the drive in RAID 1 mode is about the same as a single stand alone drive as expected. It’s been ... But if the replacement for the replacement dies (assuming it ever gets here) I'm not going to subject myself to Seagate's bizarre interpretation of customer service again - it's going in the bin and I'm getting a couple new Sandisk units.

I moved my Lightroom catalogue & all images from the iMac (2Tb) to the LaCie, set up as a two drive RAID, (10TB + 10TB). One drive mirrors the other. I had no previous experience of RAID, but the supplied software made this a relatively easy procedure. Surprisingly (to me), the Mac only sees the LaCie as a single 10Tb drive, but the led lights on the drive indicate both are working well. It is a little slower than the Macs built in SSDs and there is some noise of the audible type, but overall I think this should solve my storage problems for many years to come.
