Almost....but good

So we have here a tasty whisky, almost as good as last year's Offerman in Guinness casks. Almost. I was hoping for more smoke, but that's on me, not Lagavulin. I think the recent extreme levels in Scotch have messed with my pallette. Still a tasty dram, do t get me wrong.

One of the best Scotches of the year. Smokey and spicy without being overly earthy or vegetal. Semi-sweet citrus and light stone fruit runs beautifully under the smoke. Wonderfully balanced and dare I say, way better than the 2021 Guiness cask version which I enjoyed very much.

This has campfire on the beach, dark fruits, and a very slight hint of vanilla and lemon. Please be prepared, this IS an Islay. If you don’t know about peat, then don’t let this be your first experience. One reviewer on here didn’t seem to realize this and had a bad experience, which isn’t Lagavulin’s fault. This could possibly be the best Offerman yet. I really loved the Guinness cask, but the dark fruits (think dark cherry) in this one make it more fun and complex. When they suggest pairing this with a medium rare steak, they aren’t wrong. It’s WONDERFUL.

Campfire Feelings
2 January 2023

This is the closest thing to a campfire in liquid form as I think you're going to find. Anything heavy on smoke will always have my attention. While not the most smoke heavy dram I've had, it just gave a sense of serene contentment while enjoying it. Thus the campfire reference. It just reminded me of camping outside sitting by a fire and just enjoying those moments. I don't usually go into what I taste. I think everyone should just close their eyes and ears and make their own calls in that dept. I may already be contemplating acquiring another bottle just to have a bit of a reserve on this one.

Fabulous

Best one yet of the Offerman series. There's a red wine tone to the nose and palate that's delicious and makes it stand apart. Smoky, peaty, yet fruity belly warmer. It's recommended to drink this with a steak and I agree. Love it.

MUCH better than expected
1 March 2023

I had read some less than favorable reviews on this edition. I have no clue why this scotch got rough reviews. It’s absolutely great. It’s not like a Lag 16 in that it’s sweet, fruity, salty, and the smoke is not as intense. I think Lagavulin did a really effective job of casking. The flavors change as you work down the bottle. I really don’t care about the celebrity connection. I buy scotch for what is in the bottle, not who is on the bottle. This is a pricey scotch (IMO). If I could find it at $80, I would buy a few bottles. Still, I highly recommend this Charred Oak 11 year.

Not what I expected :(
18 December 2022

I bought this a week ago, after seeing the add. We were super excited. We really enjoy single malt whiskey and couldn’t wait to try the Offerman edition after all the years of watching the show. :( super disappointed on the flavor and taste. Maybe it is supposed to taste and smell like paint thinner. I’ll stick to Glenlivet 12 Year Old

Perfect winter dram

The palate comes with smoke, vanilla and oak, all very well balanced. The finish is a lovely and warm. Perfect for winter. Not quite up to the standard of their previous release, but still very good and very worth the price.

Slightly Disappointed
27 October 2022

I bought this as a gift for a friend and was disappointed that it did not come with the box, as I have received from other retailers, but also that the label was torn when delivered. Needs less to say I’m not going to give this to him in that condition. I’ll probably go with my normally trusted retailer in the future.

The Best Scotch If You Like Them Peaty
12 December 2022

My wife bought me this a a couple of years ago and I just got my second bottle. Very peaty and smokey. Probably the best scotch I have ever had. Made me a big fan of Lagavulin. A must have for your collection. Your scotch loving friends will thank you for sharing.
