Lagavulin The Distillers Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ml

(8 reviews)

The roots of Lagavulin probably go back to the 18th century, because whisky was already produced in 1742 at the present location of the distillery. However, at that time there were about ten illegal distilleries on the south coast of Islay, so that the age of the Lagavulin distillery cannot be determined exactly. Only from 1816 onwards the history can be clearly reconstructed. Today Lagavulin belongs to the Diageo group and produces with two wash- and spirits stills each about 2.2 million litres of whisky per year. The Distillers Edition of Lagavulin is distinguished by its six-month finish in a Pedro Ximenez sherry cask. The whisky spent the basic maturation in Bourbon casks - and this for 16 years, although an official age statement is not made. Instead, the year of distillation and the year of bottling are mentioned, as this is an annually bottled vintage edition. This means that the contents of each bottle can be slightly different. Basically the whisky is strongly influenced by smoky peat and iodine, but it also reveals notes of vanilla, sweet raisins, malt, coffee, fruit and oak. It goes very well with seafood and cheese, and should be drunk with a drop of water.

This is like 16yo Lagavulin with poise. Smoke and wood nuances play well with the salinity. Hint of honey and vanilla.

Great balance of smoke and sweetness - Lagavulin 16 meets GlenDronach Revival

Rich and peaty.

Tasting a great Islay Malt lifted my mood so much during lockdown. The peaty taste and smooth aftertaste took me right back to holidays in the Scottish islands.

Fantastic beverage. Smokey but not overpowering. Great smoothness to be ***** neat or with drops of water. Prefer it chilled.

Sooo sooo good....

Nosing - Bold, peaty, smell of the sea...Hints of chocolate, slightly sweet from the PX Cask. Peatiness more balanced unlike the 8 or 16 year old.

Just when you thought Lagavulin couldn't get better. We're picky connoisseurs with our whisky. This one will hit a new spot if you're a fan of Lagavulin.
