I used to think that rice was just rice, Well, obviously basmati is different to long grain, but beyond that I thought they all tasted the same. It wasn't until I couldn't get any "own brand" one day and I had to try a premium branded basmati that I realised how wrong I was. It really is worth paying a little more for better rice and this is definitely better rice. If you want your curry to taste more like it does at the local restaurant this will help get you there. Well worth it! Delicious!

Had pretty decent results with this, but ignore the instructions on the bag! Way I do it is to rinse rice thoroughly, and by thoroughly I mean at least 4 water changes or a good minute under the tap. and drain using a sieve. Then lightly fry the rice in a little oil before then adding twice the amount of water by volume of rice. So if you have 1 cup of rice, it?s two cups of water. Bring to boil, turn down heat to the lowest that it will go, and leave it to sit for about 8-10 mins with the lid off. Give it a stir after 8 or so mins to see if all the water has been absorbed; if not, let it sit a bit longer. If you?re not using a non stick pan you might need to check it a little earlier to make sure it?s not sticking. That?s it. Simple.

I have been buying bags of this rice in different months and in both occasions I have found tiny black insects on it, as soon as I open the bag of rice I storage it in very well sealed containers so there is no way anything could have come inside. This has been my favourate rice for many years. However, it has been becoming more popular and they have been increasing their prices but that real problem is that the rice quality has decresed.

Ver poor quality, opened the pack today, there were two types of rice most of them were broken, I soaked for a while but they were all mushy and broken aftercooking.Far from the quantity of basmati rice, selling broken low quality rice at the price of basmati, extremely disappointed. Money wasted.
Laila rice is exactly same as Himalya basmati rice, it just different packaging. As I have been using Himalya for long time, so I like trying using different brand too.. so I found that they both same. Just £2 differences in price and packaging wise. You will get same taste use either. Thanks
I?m reviewing this product because I got a free sample from Ocado. Laila Basmati Rice. I didn?t follow the instructions on the pack, I thoroughly rinsed the rice under running cold water. Then I transferred it into a non-stick pan, added enough cold water to boil the rice for 25 minutes ? stirring after 10mins. Then I drain the cooked rice ready for serving. The results were satisfactory.
This is some of the best rice I have ever eaten. When you open the bag you can smell the nutty fragrance of he raw rice. Cooked it's perfection and the wonderful aroma fills the kitchen. Highly recommended.
I was annoyed by online shopping substituting the 2Kg bag ordered with a 1Kg bag and charging me the same price but I was given a refund for this. Anyway, to cook, Weigh out your required amount, I use 100g for just me but I do like a fair amount of rice with a main dish. Rinse with cold water in colander, then boil (rolling) in large pan of slightly salted water, I’ve found boil for around 6-8 mins for my liking (slightly firm), drain in colander, return into pan and cover (off the stove), leave to stand for a few mins, folk up and rice is perfect, best home cooked rice I’ve ever found.Nice flavour too, better than other top brands I’ve tried, will continue to use this rice.
I can't understand how there are such conflicting reviews! Maybe the people like myself who feel it is stodgy are cooking it wrong but i have to say I've tried boiling until cooked and also used method of waiting until almost cooked then leaving with heat off and lid on which is what I've always done with own brand rice and neither work. I get a stodgy consistency no matter what I do. I just wish Ocado would sort out their stock levels! All of the reasonably priced items seem to be pretty much permanently out of stock across a wide range of items and my shopping bill is always astronomical these days!
A fascinating afternoon reading angry reviews for Basmati rice. I never knew life could be quite so over-complicated! Recipe for English Boiled Rice: (1) never rinse the rice before - you can do that after; (2) use a big pan and a huge quantity of boiling water, far more than you really need; (3) simmer for 12 minutes; (4) rinse in cold water in a collander until close to room temperature; (5) fluff with a fork and keep in the fridge until you want to eat; (6) microwave on full power. Simples!
