The LX is one of the best value pens you can buy. Top quality and refinement. Purchased the limited edition (now discontinued) Gold Lx as a gift for a client, great choice to introduce someone to the world of fine writing. Highly recommend this pen. While it is personal preference, I think the Fine and Medium nibs are the best choices if used on a daily basis.... Show more

A pleasure to write with! But don't put the pen in its case upside down!
This is only my second fountain pen and my first really nice one. The pen feels solid and comfortable in my hand, and the blue cartridge ink it came with flows richly and beautifully. I haven't yet tried the converter, but I will as soon as the cartridge runs out. The only problem I had with it was pretty silly, but I think others should know about it-- I had wanted to keep it in the lovely pen case it comes in. I made the mistake of putting the pen in it upside down, and the cap got stuck inside the case and would not come out. The unsuccessful ways I attempted to extract it resulted in scratching the pen cap slightly. It took some tricks that I came up with along with a group of high school engineering students to extract it! (I cut a piece of flexible plastic, ... (I cut a piece of flexible plastic, rolled it into a tube and inserted it around the stuck cap to hold back the foam "wings" in the case that cradle the pen, but it didn't fall out til one of the students thought of sticking his finger hard into to the case to create a vacuum. The plastic tube cleared the way for the cap to fall out once the vacuum was created! Love these kids!)So, as long as you don't mistakenly put the pen the wrong way in the pen case, this is in every way a great, satisfying purchase.... Show more

Dipping my toes in the LAMY waters
I normally like heavy and huge pens like Emperors and Ranga Model 5s. I tried a friend's Vista, a demonstrator pen in LAMY's Safari series, which includes AL-Stars and LXs. I found it to write nicely but too lightweight for my general liking. However, the Marron and the Rose Gold LXs are so very pretty. Given that LAMY nibs are easily interchangeable, and that the steel ones are quite inexpensive, I decided to give the LX's a try. Surprise! I really like them, especially for informal occasions when an Emperor is ridiculous overkill or risk of loss. The oversized clip is fun and easy to use with one hand. The snap cap is trustworthily secure so I can clip the pen to an untucked shirt without fear of losing the body of the pen out the bottom of the shirt (and that's ... The writing is great, especially for a pen at this low price point. I very much like the section grip, with easy-to-feel orientation and a lip to prevent my oversized fingers from slipping down onto the nib. The light weight is less of an issue than I thought it might be. I find LAMY inks, in general, to be a tad dry. No problem: I can fill a converter with a favored ink or syringe a favored ink into a rinsed, empty cartridge. LAMY's Safari series has won my trust with this pen, and I'll be on the lookout for more pretty LXs. I experienced the legendary Goulet customer service for the first time with this purchase. My first shipment had some inexplicable damage, probably a factory accident, and Goulet instantly shipped me a fresh one. That damage accounts for my one-star-off in the quality category. But the overall experience is fabulous all the way 'round.... Show more

Found The One
The purpose of this review extends far beyond my experience with just this pen in particular. I am relatively new to fountain pens in general, and so trying to find the right pen was difficult for me. In addition to that, finding the right place to buy it was even more difficult. I felt a little lost. I had been using a cheap pen from amazon that did what I needed it to do, but it wasn't a lot better than most of the ball point pens I had been using for years. I knew I wanted something that felt expensive, looked minimal but still had a lot of considerations in the design. Looking around the internet, I found very high satisfaction and user reviews of Lamy pens. Then that began my search into this brand. I was upset to see there were no shops near me that had them, ... Looking around the internet, I found very high satisfaction and user reviews of Lamy pens. Then that began my search into this brand. I was upset to see there were no shops near me that had them, and there certainly weren't any places that I felt comfortable buying the pen from. This let me to Goulet, where they had a great selection and good prices. I understand that ordering anything during this time had implied set backs, but it seemed that this company was being up front and transparent about shipping delays. Goulet also had such a family feel that I was incredibly comfortable placing my ordering, and waiting to receive it. To my surprise, the several week wait turned into having my Lamy inked up and writing within roughly a week. The pen has such an even amount of flow, without much or any feathering. It writes so smooth and gives me joy with each stroke. The build quality is fantastic. It feels sturdy, while remaining light enough to keep in your pocket all day. Lastly, the grip is superb. It is so comfortable to hold and I love the way it feels in the hand. I am so satisfied with Goulet and my pen so much. Both exceeded my expectations.... Show more

Great Look - But Hard to Use
I really wanted to love this pen; my first ever fountain pen was a LAMY gifted to me by a german friend, and it was fantastic, so I had high hopes for this one. The pen itself is well designed; it's sleek and tidy, but not so precious that I feel uncomfortable chucking it in my purse. A good everyday pen. Also the color is unusual and the metallic finish is very pretty. The problem though is that I can't seem to get a consistent flow out of it. I mistakenly first ordered it with a fine nib and it was awful. It kept clogging up, ink wouldn't flow consistently. I swapped out for a medium nib which definitely helped (also making sure to thoroughly soak and clean the tip, as I know that LAMY tests out their pens before shipping), but now it's wildly inconsistent between ... So I'm a little perplexed.Anyway, it works ok, as long as I use the right inks in it. I'm still disappointed though, as I have much cheaper pens that are a lot less fussy and are much easier to use.... Show more

It's ok, I guess
Lamy LX, Marron, medium nib. This is handsome pen with a clean tech look. It might be very good for a pen at this price point, I don't know because I cannot compare it directly to other pens in the $55 to $70 range. I think the utilitarian design and affordability make it a good everyday carry with you pen if you like to use a fountain pen at work. The writing experience is average. If you are looking for a pen for personal writing, journal, letters, creative writing, etc, and the beauty and writing experience of a good pen is important to you then try to step up a little bit in price point. I have tried different inks in this pen, and while it writes ok, there is a bit more feedback than I like. I do not find the writing experience to be smooth as others have ... I have tried different inks in this pen, and while it writes ok, there is a bit more feedback than I like. I do not find the writing experience to be smooth as others have stated, but I admit that is subjective and contextual; what are you comparing it to? If you are comparing it to a $29 fountain open it might feel like a dream. The Lamy LX was my first fountain pen as I was trying to determine preferences and to see if all the rave about fountains pens was for real. It served its purpose, but I felt there must be something more. If you step up to the $125 to $170 price point you will be very pleasantly surprised and see what people are talking about when they mention writing experience. From that point on your addiction is your own problem. ;-)... Show more

Lamy LX is fantastic
I've use TWSBI pens for several years, so this is my first Lamy. Writes fantastic and looks just as fantastic. It is lighter than I anticipated also. My only caution is to be careful when unboxing. While it comes in a really nice matching metal tube, that time comes in a rectangle cardboard package with no ends. A soon as I picked it up, it slid out of the cardboard and hit the floor with a depressing thud. The pen was fine, but the metal tube has a big dent in it. So, hold on tight when you unbox! As always, Goulet Pens is the best at packaging their shipments. Top notch.... Show more

Lovely pen!
Honestly, I was planning on buying other pens afterwards. Now I'm too worried to, because I can't imagine using another pen. The weight and grip are perfect, beyond anything else. It looks great. I get tiny skips sometimes when I move very quickly, but I might be able to minimalise this (it may be a matter of technique) but it's not severe. Overall incredible.... Show more

Pleasantly Surprised
I wasn't expecting to actually like this pen. I had heard that the nibs were too stiff and that the pens were overrated. I was very happy to see that this wasn't the case for me at all. I ordered the extra fine nib by accident and did not think I was going to like it, however, it is probably one of the best writers in my collection so far. Coupled with the customer service of the great folks at Goulet, my experience was top notch.... Show more

Satisfying, slick
This is a satisfying nice pen that isn't "expensive" (it's not a $250 Sailor). I fortunately find the tripod grip quite comfortable to hold. And I like this brown metal color and black nib. I think it looks slick. And it's quite a bit larger than my run of the mill gel pens (e.g. Uni One) or rollerballs (e.g. Uni Vision Elite) or Parker Jotters. But it's not so large that it's unwieldy on the go. And not so fancy that I don't mind sticking it in a 12-pen case (Lihit Lab Smart Act) not something I'd stick a vintage gold-nib Parker 61 into and then throw into a backpack to sit around for a few days. It's written every time. I like the feel of the Medium nib. It's satisfying to hold and handle. Just no complaints. Is it as smooth as other pens I have that have gold ... No. Is it necessarily much better to write with than a much cheaper Fine-tip Pilot Metropolitan? No I mean I find that it's really hard to top Pilot in anything. But I wanted a brown pen with some panache but without being ostentatious and this was just looking sharp and without breaking the bank. Happy camper over here.... Show more
