The strawberry color is attractive. My only semi-negative experience is one that's shared with one or two other pens, and thus is likely more to do with the lousy paper I'm using for now. Over the course of a long session, the pen will write progressively drier until I have to take a short break to let the feed recover. I think the paper is probably just ******* the feed dry, because only my wettest pens avoid this issue entirely on this paper.... Show more

Lamy nib / feed performance

It is a Safari, so not something that breaks the bank... but... Lamy is normally a nice writer out of the box. This one, no blame on Pen Boutique, was ****. The broad nib surprised me at how thin the line was, but that would be fine if it didn't arrive WAY out of alignment and barely wrote. After many frustrating hours of tinkering, as we do, it became tolerable. Still sucks, actually, for what I would expect for a Lamy nib. However... fountain pens, am I right So, I got a stub nib to switch to a thicker line and get a better writing experience... Lamy **** the bed again on me! I got the broad 'massaged' to where it writes, but it may as well be a Preppy Fine nib... and still writes poorly. The stub nib may meet the blunt end of a hammer if I can't salvage it. Lamy Safari (Cream)

My first two fountain pens were the pilot metro and kaweco sport both of which I still really like and occasionally use. The metro writes wonderfully smooth though if I were to nitpick it’s tad heavy and posting isn’t ideal the sport writes great too and is much lighter (posts better) only negative is it’s a bit of a operation to eye drop it. Not a deal breaker but you’ll probably get your fingers inky. So I went and added the Safari to my collection… I was apprehensive because of the triangular grip section but once I got it it was much ado about nothing. Naturally works with my normal writing position so really worked out terrific. Prefer the converter in the Lamy over the Pilot. Anyways there’s my rambling review. Any of the three pens mentioned btw are worth picking up but right now the Lamy is my favourite:... Show more

LAMYsafari fountain pen
4 December 2022
This is my first fountain pen and I really enjoy writing with the pen. I love the vibrant color of the blue ink too. I watched so many Goulet videos on the webiste. The videos helped me learn about fountain pens and about the size of the tips. After seeing the examples of the extra fine tips, I knew I wanted an extra fine tip. I also wanted a soft grip but I did not see a soft grip pen available in my price range. I found a soft grip for the pen elsewhere and I am looking forward to adding that to my pen.Inserting the ink required a big push. Listen for the click and thats the clue that the ink cartridge is installed.... Show more

Lamy, the pens for all ages.
13 September 2022
I recently bought both the "Strawberry" and "Cream" Lamy Safari pens from Goulet Pen Company. Both are a welcome addition to the other Lamy pens in my possession. They are of very high quality for the price and will last forever with a little maintenance and TLC. The colors are well-named and the pens write extremely well (maybe more so than some more expensive pens I own). One of the most important design elements of the pens is the ability to easily replace the nibs. In general, the nibs on a pen are the most vulnerable part and are easily damaged. Spare nibs are readily available and easily replaced within a few minutes, if necessary. They also make great gifts for students and professionals alike.Feel free to buy from Goulet Pen Company. New to Fountain Pens - Just buy it.
27 August 2022
I was super excited to try this since it would be my first actual fountain pen and it did not disappoint. I've been using this consistently at the office and it hasn't let me down. The previous pens that I have been using would always skip and dry out but this one would write so well as soon as it was uncapped. The lines are pretty smooth and a little scratchy. (I prefer the feeling of the extra fine nib.) The ink that came with the pen wrote well on post its and computer paper with minimal to no bleeding/feathering. (I ended up buying two more lamy inks bc of this.) I do have sweaty hands and the ink does transfer and smudge so it's not bulletproof. You can't go wrong with this pen for the price and anything cheaper just isn't worth it for me.... Show more

To Write Again

I am 80 years of age. I grew up with that fat pencil beginning to print and then practice the now almost lost art of cursive writing. While I did not excel at cursive, I did not do poorly either.Somewhere it fell by the wayside so I won't place the blame with anything or anyone one but myself. But you never know when it might come in handy. LAMY provides a great entranceway back into writing if you so wish. I am pleased with their basic pen and am about to find out about different nibs just to see what develops. I must add their (LAMY) packaging is unique and well done. Assembly is literally a snap and then you are free to return to the lost world of cursive. Best wishes to you on your journey.... Show more

Wow! Even better than I expected!
13 June 2023
I had read enough about the LAMY Safari to know it was a very nice pen, but the first stroke of pen on paper almost brought tears to my eyes. It was like writing on air. Now, for reference, I own a very high end Mont Blanc and mid-range Sheaffer Targa and a couple of Parker 75s, all of which are beautiful writers. But, as delightful as they all are, I do not recall any of them giving me such a warm and fuzzy feeling on the very first contact with paper. Writing with the Safari is like writing with butter! The feed is great, too. I bought this one with M nib because I have never cared for any fine nibs I have tried, but I find the M so smooth I had to buy a fine just to see how it feels on the Safari. The diameter is a little larger than I expected, about normal for ... MoreI had read enough about the LAMY Safari to know it was a very nice pen, but the first stroke of pen on paper almost brought tears to my eyes. Do not get me wrong, I prefer a pretty standard mid-size girth and love the feel of the Safari. This was just an observation.I especially love the clip design. I am retired and long-sleeve t-shirts are pretty much my daily "uniform". With no pocket, I have to clip my pen in the neck of my t-shirt. Some clips are difficult to get clipped on and some, especially Parker's "arrow" clips can be a hassle to get off because the "barbs" on the arrowheads get caught. The nice wide, rounded Safari clip slips right on and off while still maintaining a snug, secure grip.I like the first Safari so much I ordered one of the special addition (from a few years ago) violets plus a few nibs for my daughter who likes fountain pens also and wants to play around with calligraphy. Then I was jealous so I ordered a one of the Mangos from that special edition class so we can swap caps and bodies now and then to have LSU purple and gold pens!... Show more
