Lamy Studio Extra Fine Nib Fountain Pen - Imperial Blue

The build quality of the pen is excellent, the construction of the cap moves the snap section all the way down to the nib so the transition from the body to the holding area is a very small jump. Additionally the cap posts with this deeply satisfying click as it latches into place and then stays perfectly in place. It's a little touch, but it matters. I'm still learning to work with the nib design from a more generous medium, but it flows well and writes cleanly. Overall exactly what I hoped for and I'm hoping for a long and useful lifespan.

If you would have told me 2 years ago I'd spend $80 on a pen; I'd have told you that you were crazy.I purchased this pen a couple of weeks ago and am hooked on this pen. I find excuses to write with it, and though it might sound crazy, I firmly believe that this pen was worth every penny. This is my 4th fountain pen and by far the most expensive. And, yet, the writing experience is superb.I love everything about this pen, from the satisfying click of the cap to the solid (but not heavy) construction of the pen to the writing experience.This is an absolutely extraordinary pen.

I am just recently getting back into fountain pens so read this in the context of a relative newbie. I have two issues with my new Lamy Studio Extra-Fine nib in Imperial Blue:1. Using the stock Lamy blue ink cartridge that came with the pen, and I get reasonably frequent dry starts / dry lines. Not sure if that is me or the pen, though I have seen other people report the same issue.By way of contrast, my cheapo Pilot Metropolitan MR Fine nib occasionally gives a partially dry line, but never a completely dry line like the Lamy Studio. The Pilot remains completely functional where the Lamy has me retracing entire lines somewhat frequently. The Lamy Studio's grip is a super smooth chromed finish that gets very slippery if your fingers are not bone dry.It is a good looking pen, and obviously built to high standards of fit & finish, but the above issues make it unreliable and difficult to use.
