Lamy - Studio - Fountain Pen - Medium - Piano Black

Gorgeous pen. Writes well, like that the nibs can be switched out easily. Remember to get a converter alongside it, if you wish to use bottled ink instead of the cartridge it comes with.Pen is light, posts nicely, and the grip is not slick. Be aware it will scratch fairly easily, so don't try and keep it pristine.

A pen that could last a lifetime

I bought this pen with the 14k nib after using the regular steel-nibbed Studio for a year or two. This is a quite heavy pen, but weighted really good. It both feels and looks nice with the cap posted as well. The grip on this model is not the same as some of the others Studio models, as this has a more textured feel, making your hands not slip as easy. I don't know how I feel about the nib. Maybe it's just not exactly what I'm looking for, or maybe it's a defect with mine, but the feedback sometimes makes a squeaking noise, close to the sound of a nib that is singing. The quality is (as always with Lamy pens) great. The look and finish is as beautiful as it can get. Almost perfect, tapered grip is uncomfortable (for me)

I received a matte black Lamy Studio with a medium nib as a gift from my wife. I like a solid pen with some weight to it and this is just about perfect. The construction is very precise, everything fits flawlessly. It posts well and weight and balance are right on. The medium nib is fantastically smooth. I've since swapped it to a 1.1 stub which is just as nice. My main criticism for this pen - and the reason I deducted a star - is the grip section, and not for what you think. I happen to like the chrome finish. I don't think it is any more slippery than a very smooth resin or polycarbonate grip on other pens. What bothers me is the tapered shape. This is certainly built like a 'workhorse' pen but I find that I get a cramped hand very quickly and cannot use for anything other than short notes. I understand the design here, it was to eliminate the 'step' from the grip section & barrel as well as to have a smooth design while capped. I am an architect and have spent decades drawing & writing with drafting instruments that have thinner barrels and tend to grip a bit higher up, so for me this fatter tapered section isn't my favorite. I do currently have it inked and use it with hopes of finding a comfort zone, but I usually give up and rinse it out and grab another FP instead. Sadly I don't think the 2000 would work for me either since they seem similarly shaped. If you have calibrated your grip to drafting and technical instruments and are sensitive to grip size & shape this may not work for you and you may want to avoid it. However if the fatter tapered grip doesn't bother you, then this is absolutely a 5-star pen just get one!!!

Balanced Quality

Admittedly this is only my 2nd fountain pen however I absolutely love it. It's been the ONLY pen I've used - and I carry it everywhere. I don't write novels. My writing day to day is to make scratch notes and illustrations / sketches of my customer's gears, tools, drill bits, aerospace parts, etc - (i.e., little technical drawings with engineering lettering & dimensions... not exactly the Mono Lisa, but nice little sketches.) You can feel the exceptionally well built quality. The pen has nice weight and balance (whether posted or not posted). There's a sophisticated elegance. Nice matte finish with chrome accents. The gold tip "fine nib" has nice feedback with very slight (subtle) line variation. Everyone notices this pen when I pull out - lots of compliments.

The shape has the best ergonomics of any pen I own, and the palladium model has an excellent tactile feel. I prefer the weight of metal pens, and this pen feels balanced posted or unposted. The famous propeller clip looks as good as expected. While many complain the grip section of the Studio is slippery, the Palladium model has an excellent grip with just enough texture. This is my marathon journaling pen, and I have no problem writing with it for hours and have never had any slipping. Almost every part of the pen, the materials, aesthetic, grip, weight, ergonomics, are all exactly what I want in an everyday workhorse pen. I have two issues with this pen. First, the posted cap does not sit perfectly - it has a slight bit of movement. That was shocking on an expensive pen, but it is unnoticeable during normal writing and is more of a personal annoyance. Second, I do not love the nib the way everyone else seems to. There is no question that the nib is absolutely great, it is buttery smooth, provides the perfect amount of feedback, has an excellent feed, and worked fantastic right out of the box. It writes better than any steel nib I own and is superior to almost every gold nib I own. I cannot underline enough how much the vast majority of writers would love the way this nib writes. However, my favorite pens have some bounce to them without adding any pressure, which creates a dynamic script with natural variation in width. This nib feels too stiff for me. It feels immovable during normal use but provides a slight flex with a tiny amount of pressure.Overall, this pen is so, so close to perfect. I would not change a single piece of this pen - except to add a little bounce to the nib.

A screw-on cap doesn't work well for that style of writing. So I wanted a pen with a snap on cap. I was thinking about a Diplomat Aero. I considered the Lamy 2000. But I choose the Palladium Finish version of the Studio, and I'm glad I did. I particularly like the clever way the cap clicks on to post. It posts securely without scraping the finish of the pen barrel. One of the reasons I choose the Palladium finish version, is that the grip section is not slick at all. It's a pleasure to hold and use. The Dark Brown Special Edition may be the only other version with a textured grip. My only regret is in not ordering an extra-fine nib. If you are used to a Japanese fine nib, the Studio Fine nib will seem a bit fat. In the end, this is a pen I can live with for a lifetime. I am very happy with it and recommend it highly.

Lamy Studio Palladium

It’s a really great pen! I wish I would have got a medium nib because it’s a little scratchy. It may have been the ink. I used Winter Spice. Next time I’ll get a medium nib. Some ink gathers on the section, and none of my other Studios do that.

My new EDC fountain pen

I'm extremely happy with my Lamy Studio in brushed stainless steel; This pen has become my EDC fountain pen, and I think it'll stay in the daily rotation for quite some time. Will probably upgrade this pen eventually to the gold Lamy nib, although the stock Lamy nib functions just fine - this pen just begs to be dressed up. Very happy with this pen, certainly one of my favorites.

I picked up the Lamy Studio as my second ever Fountain pen. I wanted something sturdy that would last me a long time. The all metal body feels wonderful in the hand and really makes the pen feel like it is made of premium materials. I will explain my ratings on the side:****I only gave the Studio a 4 star for overall look and feel because of the shiny metal grip it has. This is the biggest flaw of the whole pen. if your fingers get a little sweaty it can be hard to grip the pen. if i write too much or it is just a warm day and my fingers get sweaty then i find that i change my grip often just to combat the slipping. Studio Fountain Pen Extra Fine / Imperial Blue

This is a well-crafted fountain pen with superb balance and weight. I opted for the 'converter' in barrel instead of cartridges and have found it very smooth to refill. The fountain pen nib provides an easy flow of ink across the paper. The Studio Fountain Pen is a little more expensive than the usual Lamy range however is well worth it.
