The Laowa 15mm Shift Lens is capable of making great images. It is fully manual with no automation.You need to set the aperture manually, it does not communicate with the camera body at all. Focus is manual, there are no focus contacts on the lens. The focus scale printed on the lens is off so don't plan on using that. With all that said at F8 & F11 the picture quality is excellent. My copy has no color fringing and is sharp.To set the focus I used Liveview on a Nikon DSLR and with some trial & error determined the hyper-focus settings and then marked them on the lens barrel with a pen. With hyper-focus set at F11 the lens will produce photos with sharp focus from about 3' to infinity.The parallel and horizontal lines stay straight, great for architectural ... It is an ultra wide lens like no other. It pairs with the Fujifilm GFX cameras perfectly; I use it on a GFX 50R (with a Kipon EF-GFX adapter). Distortion is very well controlled with only some mild barrel distortion. Chromatic aberration is average but acceptable for ultra wide lenses and can be fixed easily in software. I do like the wideness of the 11mm ar full-frame, it it is truly incredible, but the corners are soft, of course, could be cropped to 12mm or even more, there is some AI software to improve the sharpness also. Very nice for video since softness is not noticeable that much and wideness is still incredible :)

I do like the wideness of the 11mm ar full-frame, it it is truly incredible, but the corners are soft, of course, could be cropped to 12mm or even more, there is some AI software to improve the sharpness also. Got a nice used copy from B&H (Thanks!). Small, compact, well-built. Fits nicely in my pocket or corner of my photo bag. Takes common 62mm filters (get a good one). The distance/DOF scale is badly mismarked and completely useless. After some crude testing, I set the red index to halfway between the 1- and 2-meter mark, and then set f/8 or f/11 for infinity focus, and fire away. This lens is no Canon L quality, but the images are actually pretty close to my Canon RF 14-35L. Needs a bit of post-processing if the edge falloff bothers you. Barrel distortion is present but not that hard to fix with normal tools. All-in-all a pretty good all-around performer. Before you get one, make sure the UWA is for you. I shot the sample images with a nikon z7 with ftz adaptor. in DTLA late winters afternoon with low contrasty sun. They are all straight out of the camera with no editing. I can see an immediate reduction in sharpness compared to my Nikon lenses, this maybe a result of only 5 aperture blades. At full shift, there is an extreme amount of distortion. When on an overpass at full shift down, normal cars looked like stretch limos. This limits the usefulness. Looking at the Wells Fargo Bank image which was shot close and at f11, it is very difficult to read the logo. Imagine if this was a client who needed their logo to be prominent?So... I may return this lens as I dont feel confidence with it. I dont feel it is particularly sharp and also the amount of distortion at full shift maybe too much at the edge of the image.
Purchased a used copy of this lens and it is extremely soft from my first day of using. I spent two hours trying to get a photo that is relatively sharp but even at F11 the lens just doesn't seem capable. I'm taking it out one more time tomorrow to make sure, but it appears I have a soft copy. Will likely return and bite the bullet for canon t/s in the future. Build quality feels good, the results are just disappointing.

I have the Nikon 19mm Tilt/Shift and with the adapter the thing is bulky and heavy. I know others who use this lens and like it so I decided to try it. I was really disappointed to say the least. The lens flair was a killer and the color rendering was too far off for my needs. Every sky just looked wonky. Color and saturation was way off. I found myself spending too much time in Lightroom fixing every exterior shot I took with this lens. First row: Sony 10-15 center/corner; Laowa 9 center/corner; second row: Laowa 15 shift center/corner; Laowa 15 shift, perspective corrected, center/corner; all shot at F8/125/ISO 400. Appears to me, despite the FE resolution advantage, the Laowa 15's does not look better than the other 2 lens. The center does show a bit more details, but overall it appears a bit softer, especially at the corner. So don't expect very sharp images across the frame. But for me, the shift get the job done, and I can use it as a regular UW, with comparable result from my existing APSC UW lens. For the money I think it is a reasonable deal.
For all architecture photographers, the power of a shift lens is incomparable to conventional lenses. With this tool, this wide, you can get angles to get any job done and exceed client expectations. Tilt option si missing, but on this focal lenght is not really necessary, you easily get in focus everything at f11.Mind thst this lens is soft AT ANY APERTURE. Even softer on highlights due to extreme abberations and no proper lens data to correct that. The common sliders in Capture One will not help much. I think that I got the worst copy out there anyway, so maybe you should not be discouraged. All in all, I'm working with it commercially and everything is decent.
I've owned- or shot with- hundreds of lenses over a 45-year period. Optically, this Laowa 11mm is THE worst lens optically I've ever used. ... Trying to be fair, I get that producing an 11mm rectilinear FF lens is a challenge. Still, if you can't make an even reasonably-sharp lens, don't make and sell the lens. This 11mm is a dog.
