This shears, is the reason those tiny little scissors in multitools are useless as of now. I used to carry a pair of cutters that paramedics usually have on the job. Until I became aware of the Raptor. The problem was it wasn't available where leatherman products are usually found, with the exception of the rei store (which was a hassle to get to as Muni San Francisco, doesn't go by - unless you're able to walk a few blocks). The only detractor of the Raptor is its plastic holster. The retaining screw got loose and I almost lost the tool, when it fell off of my belt less than 24 hours after purchasing the thing.Fortunately I purchased a Surge multitool to temporarily replace my Super Tool 200 which is on its way to Oregon for repairs a second time, for the same ... So it fits neatly into the old Super Tool leather belt holster.Lucky for me, that the Raptor's belt holster is a piece of garbage. But the Raptor fits perfectly albeit a bit snug in the Surge's standard large nylon holster. Which is why the Raptor should be sold with the nylon holster instead of the hard plastic holster with its cheap defective flawed design relying on a 2 cent screw and nut.

If you an Athletic Trainer (ATC) Do Not buy these scissors!!!! I just bought them yesterday. Tried them out by cutting off an ankle taping on each ankle. Luckily I tried it on a buddy at work. Here are the results.Ankle 1 - ScissorsThe base of the scissors are too high and rake into the body causing pain. So we then had to deal with a laceration and get that properly tended to. As we were doing this I realized I too was bleeding. Remember when I poked my finger? Well I also cut myself, but not as bad as I cut my buddy.Afterwards we examed the cutter a lot closer and realized the cutting edge goes litterally to the very tip of the cutter. Much like a knife or razor blade. How I didn't cut him all the way down the side of his leg is a shock. We are lucky he was only cut as bad as he was.

I am an Athletic Trainer and thought these might work in Sports Med. Well not really. I tested them out on a buddy at work. I taped both his ankles so I could try out the scissors and cutting tool to cut off tape.1.The scissors do cut very well. However, to cut off tape with them is painful to the person. The base of the scissors is too high to get into tight spaces without dig into the person and hurting them.2. The cutting tool is sharp too and SHOULD NEVER BE USED ON A PERSON. While cutting off the tape I cut my buddy at the heel. In 17years of being an ATC I have never cut anyone removing tape. The cut was about 1" long and 1/8" deep. I also cut my own finger as I started to cut the tape. Now, I own 2 tape cutting tools by Benchmade and use them all the ... MoreI am an Athletic Trainer and thought these might work in Sports Med. The reason they work is the tip is rounded and the blade stops short of the tip. On this Leatherman the tip is not rounded and the blade goes to the tip. Something we both realized after I cut him and myself.Still giving it 2 Stars because...This tool is sharp, does cut very well, and has multiple tools in 1 for EMT, Paramedics, Firefighters, etc. But in Sports Med for Athletic Trainers, these are not what I would consider to be a good opition and will never use them again in that setting.

Quick Background: I am an EMT in the busiest 911 system in my home state. I've carried these shears for about 9 months now. Overall I regret buying them and find myself carrying them less and less. First off, I carry them clipped in my front right pocket and that causes the seatbelt magnet in the ambulance (Fords, several models all the same issue) to malfunction falsely indicating I am not buckled. A possible solution would be to use the included sheath but the clip on the sheath is not wide enough to fit over a standard operator's/riggers belt (5.11 for example). Secondly, they are SHARP. A colleague gave a patient a suturable laceration while cutting off his clothes with these. His story causes me to always move slower with these than I would normal shears. ... A colleague gave a patient a suturable laceration while cutting off his clothes with these. His story causes me to always move slower with these than I would normal shears. Third, they are challenging to clean when soaked with blood. Lots of tiny moving parts and blood seeps into everything. Fourth, the price point. It's hard enough not to lose my stethoscope at work. This is just one more item I have to worry about "growing legs" or losing on scene. After 9 months the cool factor has faded and I'm ready to go back to regular disposable shears.
First of all: Fast delivery, even though I got some parts personalised, was a very good experience.I bought this tool primarily for the rescue scissors and it delivers. A small wave-cut(?) on one side guarantees a very good cutting experience, should it be biker clothing or a t-shirt, the scissors can take it and will ensure a clean cut through even the thickest materials. Just watch out for blood, dried up it acts like glue inside your scissors. The desinfection and cleaning work flawlessly, you can pour anything on it and the multitool will not care in the slightest. Just make sure to dry it after every cleaning and oil it regularily to prevent rust from building up.Watch out before buying: The tool is quite big, with my large hands there was no problem using ... Smaller hands will definitely struggle to utilise it as easily as me and should try to get a "hands-on experience" before buying, maybe by asking a colleague or in a shop if they could try the scissors. The belt cutter and the other functions like the ring splitter are nice additions that I didn't use yet but it will surely be a "nice-to-have" if the circumstances require their use.All in all I am very satisfied with the Raptor and would wholly recommend it.
Great shears, almost everyone in my department had them, decided to get a pair. I like all the tools that it has built in, unfortunately only 2 months in they are already starting to show signs of rust and I live over 100 miles from the coast. I also hate how loose they get and feel like I always have to tighten them. Wish it came with a tool to tighten them rather than pay another $15 at Home Depot. Otherwise great shears.
Definitely worth a consideration if you need something to perform in the most crucial moments. Trusted brand with a great warranty along with very well thought out tools like the carbide tip, seatbelt cutter, and even the oxygen tank wrench. This shear is a great one for all the preppers and healthcare workers alike!
The shears are somewhat clever because they do fold and offer several functions. All I have used is the shears, which cut well. But the tool does not fit in the case completely and the weight seems unbalanced. Don’t know that I’d trust the tool on a belt. It is quite heavy for its size, and I can see how keeping the tool clean/uncontaminated could be a problem. The Raptor seems more gimmick than useful multi-tool. It has mainly basic instruments that most EMS personnel would carry, but I think individual specific tools work better. Clever but not worth the money, even on sale.
This is my second pair of these. My first pair finally wore out. I’ve been working for the same Fire Department for 27 years in South Florida and I have 5 more before I retire. I also work part time doing Crash Fire Rescue at the local racetrack. These things have been flawless for me. Besides cutting regular clothes, they cut the leather riding suits the racers wear when racing motorcycles. As much as I hate cutting those suits, because they are expensive, these shears have cut the leather with ease. Trust me if I have to cut the leather suit off you, the least of your worries should be the leather suit. You can get these sharpened and I would recommend a quality sharpening company. I never thought about sending them back to Leatherman because I didn’t want to go ... MoreThis is my second pair of these. My first pair finally wore out. My last pair was at least 7 to 10 years old before I replaced them. The cheap shears my employer buys do their job but my crew knows that I carry these. In those instances where shears are needed, they look to me because they know these things work. Don’t be cheap. Buy them.
taken by surprise on how much bigger these emergency shears are compared to ordinary pair of shears. but that goes with its function--it's a multitool, with more features built into it. haven't tried breaking glass with the carbine tool but looking at videos on how it is used, looks to me it's handy to keep around when travelling for those 'emergency' situations (needing to break a glass or windshield for that matter). the ring cutter is a tool most likely not to be used often but at least it's there if needed. the seat-belt cutter is also a 'bonus' to have built into the tool; useful when travelling too. i like that it has some sort of 'ruler'; it's useful for me for measuring wound dimensions which i use it for work. it's made of sturdy steel and with the holster, ...
