Leatherman Surge - Nylon Sheath
The Leatherman Surge is one of our two largest multi-tools; a real powerhouse, built with our largest pliers, longest multi-tool blades and easy-to-use locks. A unique blade exchanger, replaceable 154CM wire cutters and four outside-opening blades give you quick access to the tools you use most. The Surge was built for tough jobs and the hands that do them. Made of 420HC stainless. An improved, high-carbon (HC) form of 420 stainless steel that works well with high production tooling. 420HC's strength is optimized in Leatherman multi-tools by heat treatment. Black oxide is a powder-based metal coating. Ideal for situations where giving away a position would be costly, it is widely used by the military for its effectiveness in reducing glare and reflection.

I really don’t have anything negative to say about this tool.Sure, I could complain about the weight, but the implicit message would be to recommend a smaller, lesser tool. No.I have used this tool in many situations: property maintenance (all kinds of stuff, fencing, irrigation, etc.), local paddling events and international competitions, hiking, cycling and camping trips. There have been many times when I and others were glad it was available.I bought the driver extension, the driver bit kit, an extra saw blade and file, and the holster that carries it all. It has all been useful on occasion, but if I want to reduce weight for a particular event I’ll leave the bit kit and extension behind. For maintenance I find soap and water, compressed air, and dry ... Nothing else has required change.

I’ve had a Surge for around 15yrs now. It was on my belt every day for the first 7-8 years and used hard daily. Then I took an office job and began to carry a smaller, lighter pocket knife and the Surge was semi-retired. It is still carried in my ditch-kit on nearly every sea kayaking trip, in my pack on days in the woods, and the rest of the time it’s in a small tool kit under the seat of my truck. I also own a Wave and Skeletool CX(I highly recommend for a pocket carry multi tool)but when you need a multi tool that can be used as a REAL tool, it’s tough to beat the Surge. The other full sized Leatherman tools like the Rebar and Supertool 300 don’t allow you to access the blades without opening the pliers as the Surge does which I like as sometimes you just want a ... The other full sized Leatherman tools like the Rebar and Supertool 300 don’t allow you to access the blades without opening the pliers as the Surge does which I like as sometimes you just want a knife, quickly and opened with just one hand. The larger and longer handles give better leverage when gripping or cutting than smaller multi tools, and helps the tool function as a hammer pretty well too in a pinch, although I wouldn’t recommend making it a habit. Mine was made before they were using replaceable cutters on the pliers, but are still working fine having mostly only ever cut copper wire and plastic ties. The blades are long and robust enough to use for almost anything, and the blunt tip on the serrated blade is a nice alternative to the clip point on the fine edge blade for some tasks. There are lighter and smaller options out there that are great multi tools, but if you’re a tradesperson or someone else who uses quality tools daily and want the same feeling and durability in your multi tool, the Surge is the best option.

Ill leave this review to people who know a lot more than I do. All I can tell you is that I love this tool. It is a mixture of a supertool and a wave. The very best of both. Real construction workers would like one of these on their belts so they dont have to climb down a ladder, or crawl out from some hole to go to their toolbox. Whatever positive things have been written about this multitool, please believe them. The knives are not as good as Benchmade or Buck, but they are great knives nevertheless, and Leatherman will replace damaged or dull blades for free. The company just told me dont even bother to send $10 anymore. (On this tool Leatherman did not write its brand on its main knife. It is the only slight con, as the rest of the tool has been designed expertly.)

I can't fault the service from Hollands Country Clothing, the delivery and customer service was flawless. However, the Leatherman had a bit left to be desired. The workmanship was acceptable, however the tool was in a filthy state. The black oxide was covered in grime which needed dismantling and cleaning before being greased again properly. As soon as I picked it up I my hands were covered in black grease - which was disappointing considering the premium price range of the tool.An additional minor point, opening the tool to make use of the pilers was a difficult task (and impossible with one hand) - but I'm hoping it'll loosen with use.
5 out of 5 for the Leatherman Surge. Great tool with well thought out features. Doesn’t replace full size tools but very handy to have on the belt. Regarding Snowys, still shop around. Whilst they advertise having a ‘best price guarantee’, the fine print says from time to time they can’t match a price but will still give the best possible price they can. I rang up Snowys on their Charge plus TTI advertised at $325.90. A hardware in Brisbane has the exact same product at $299.95. I rang Snowys and they invoked the, ‘we can’t match that price, you should buy it from them.’ Snowys didn’t entertain matching the price. Out of curiosity I asked what Snowys best possible price is, considering a hardware has it $26 cheaper. I was advised to look for another cheaper price a ... More5 out of 5 for the Leatherman Surge. Out of curiosity I asked what Snowys best possible price is, considering a hardware has it $26 cheaper. I was advised to look for another cheaper price a bit closer to the Snowys before they would change their price. I think the ‘best price guarantee’ is just a hook for the unsuspecting or lazy customer and the ‘best price possible’ (if better elsewhere) is misleading. I still give Snowys 3 out of 5 stars because I have had decent experiences with their service and generally they are competitive in most of their pricing. Perhaps change your ‘best price guarantee’. It is plastered over all your web site and just not true.
I own a Leatherman Wave and love it. However I needed something a little bigger. The Leatherman Surge is perfect. I use it everyday for work and at home. The Surge is a beast and can take anything I can throw at it. I have used other multitools and they broke after a few use's. Leatherman makes a solid and reliable tool that you can depend on. The Surge is not for everyone. It is a large tool and does have some heft to it. If you have small hands I would recommend the Leatherman Wave. The large scissors are sharp and solid. The interchangeable saw / file allows for many different blades to be used. The Nylon Sheath carries everything here, but it's tight. It may loosen up over time and use. Side note: My daughter claimed my Leatherman Wave when I got my Surge...LOL
Very durable product as to be welcomed and expected from Leatherman. I enjoy all the components included with this tool and strongly recommend the addition of the bits kit that includes 21 double sided bits that essentially gives you 42 more possibilities for using your leatherman. There is on thing that is somewhat annoying. The case is nice, but when loaded down with the tool and bit set, it is very difficult to snap shut. Also, it pops open easily when fully loaded. I do however like that on either side of the tool pouch there are elastic slots for other tools to be stowed. It is not a bad case, just a tad too small. The three main reasons I selected this model are the bit exchanger, the tang shank blade exchanger, and the replaceable wire cutter jaws. Overall ... It in no way feels delicate as it is more formidable than any other similar tool on the market. Literally a tool box in your pocket.
This is the biggest (and best in my opinion) Leatherman. It is mighty & outstanding. With a few small additions it is perfection. Be fore-warned that the heft and size is not for everyone but if you live to DIY, or work with your hands, then I would gravitate to the Surge. It feels like you are holding the acme of tool production and lends itself to so many tasks. If possible, get yourself the Leatherman ratchet driver to make this even sweeter, and consider swapping the replaceable cutters with the EOD set. They are sharper and have a larger cutting area (minus the hard-wire section). Overall this toolset (esp the full size scissors) knocks it out of the park and is worth the high price.
All the quality and ruggedness you’ve come to know from Leatherman. Brought to you from your favorite moose themed retailer. The surge is definitely one of the largest in the Leatherman line up. But it’s for good reason. The surge feels like a near indestructible pair of pliers that can handle any task. As well as easy open blades/tools from the closed position. Open it up and you have access to the remaining equipment for all your multi tool needs. Overall this gets my two thumbs up. But Phil who had an accident in the dock can only give it one and a half thumbs.
Totally Satisfied with this Leatherman Surge as it is the strongest of the Leatherman tools and it has 21 tools that allow me sufficient choices to choose from to get my projects done. If I was to go on the TV show Alone or Naked & Afraid, this tool would be a good choice! I'd take a Machete, Ferro Rod, Paracord, Snare wire and Leatherman Surge of course, along with fishing string, sleeping bag or woobie, survival shovel, bowsaw, and old fashioned outdoorsman cooking pot! (This is a secret) But the Leatherman Surge would be on the list to be able to make my snares and make mini swivels, triggering devices for my trapline, and a billion other survival items and survival ideas I have used in the past on both camping trips and my traplines. It's a no brainer! It's ...
