I own several headlights and use them for both work and play. The Ledlenser H7R Core has several key features. First, it is rechargeable and uses a standard 18650 lithium ion battery that is swappable, so I can carry a charged spare. Second, the light output is continuously variable from 1000 lumens down to 15 lumens, which is just bright enough to change settings on equipment like binoculars or to light a camp stove. Third, with the light output turned down, the headlight will run all night on a single charge.

We have a few Led Lenser lights and decided to try new model. Love the ability to adjust light output with the dial, instead of the old 3 light output settings. The new headlamp tilts up further, making very handy for cabinet making; working under kitchen benches for example. The battery lasts longer than expected since using on a daily / nightly basis. Nice and lite, after a few hrs work, you forget it’s on your head. The three protrusions on the focus lens now makes focusing beam much easier. Working in cabinets, the H5R Core has a nice even light output with no hot or cold spots and perfect amount of light, easy on the eyes at night. For some people that may prefer the light to be on the warmer side, (slightly toward the orange side) the work version would be ... MoreWe have a few Led Lenser lights and decided to try new model. This is the third Led Lenser head torch I have owned. I think this product is by far the best in this price range. For those giving it bad reviews- read the manual! It’s so easy. There is a few complaints about the magnetic charging cord to replace the generic micro USB - all I can say to that is that the micro USB charging ports are notorious for dying over time- it’s cheaper to by a replacement cord from led lenser rather than the whole unit! Charge time is reasonably quick and battery life is excellent. Build quality is excellent. Lightweight. Water resistant. I would 100% by this product again if I lost this.

I have been comparing this new headlamp against the H14R.2 headlamp and the Xeo H19R both of which I have owned for a number of years. The Xeo I use exclusively for my mountain bike on trails and around the local lake. I absolutely love it. The H14 I use for walks at night around the lake and I also use it in my business for building desktop systems for customers. Both these lights have always been 10/10, fantastic products.I bought this H15R as the rechargeable battery on the H14R died. Unfortunately, this is the second one that had died, the first was under warranty and Ledlenser sent out an entirely new H14 which was great and much appreciated. The H15R I purchased from BCF here in Joondalup. Unfortunately, this is the second one that had died, the first was under warranty and Ledlenser sent out an entirely new H14 which was great and much appreciated. The H15R I purchased from BCF here in Joondalup. I have now done two walks at night with the lights carrying the H14 and H15 together tonight on my 4km walk. The H15 is clearly brighter than the H14, no doubt about that. I also like the intensity control system on the H15 over the H14. It is very simple and effective. The zoom system is not so impressive and feels mushy and imprecise and I prefer a push/pull action to the 30º twist on the H15. The H15 also does not zoom in as close as the H14 and the difference is very noticeable. It is a shame too as if it zoomed in as the H14 does, it would have given it much more beam range. As it is, the beam range when zoomed is similar on both lights, even though the H15 puts out double the lumens when at maximum power (but not using boost). The zoom just feels inferior on the H15 and is frankly disappointing. Ledlenser spent years perfecting the push/pull zoom and then put it on the shelf and came out with a new zoom system that is not as good. Twisting the light rotates it on the head also which is not as good as push/pull.I think I prefer the battery pack design on the H15 and the battery indicator is really a great idea. It does remind me though that the run times on the packaging are misleading. I can tell you, you will not get 6 hours if you leave this on maximum…their run time may well be accurate though given that the last 25% is turned automatically down to a low lumen setting. The fact is though if you want maximum power the run time is likely about 3 hours before it hits this 25% and goes, effectively, into power saving mode. I have run it about two hours and it is down to 2 lights already. As usual, quoting maximum boost of 2500 Lumens that lasts for a whole 10 seconds is OK, Ledlenser need to state on the packaging and in the manuals what the sustained maximum power rating is in Lumens.I don’t mind losing the red light on the back as it does make the light more bulky and I tend not to use it. The H14 was also unnecessarily complex when it came to the various functions available and I didn’t like the way the intensity controls worked.Overall I think that this H15R headlamp is functionally great overall. If I didn’t have other lights to compare it to, possibly I might have given it five stars but given what I do know about lights, it is a reluctant four stars. I just keep thinking just how crappy the zoom feels, it is something that grates with me. I wish it didn’t, but it does.
I have the continuous series of LEDLenser Headlamps - always looking ahead to the ultimate design. Battery capacity, design, ergonomics, controls, lumens all excel in the H15R. The only drawback is the 'lack of spot beam' in adjustment. Previous LEDLenser headlamp lens designs go down to a sub 10 degree spot beam but the H15R only goes down to a 'narrow flood' beam of +20 degrees, a very diffused wide beam for a 'spot'. It will be great for certain applications.
This will be the 3rd Lenser head torch I've had over the years and they are without doubt excellent robust bits of kit. As a brand, they are certainly not cheap but you really do get what you pay for. 'Cheap no-good, good no cheap' as the saying goes!I decided to bite the bullet and upgrade to the H15R due to its longer battery life and higher light output. Both of these it does brilliantly compared to my old Lenser H8R. I really like the ability to fully adjust the brilliance from super bright to quite dim. I have horses and you really don't want to be walking up to them in the field on dark nights looking like some sort of mega bright cyclops monster so the lower light output is great. But then when doing other jobs you need as much light as possible - this ... MoreThis will be the 3rd Lenser head torch I've had over the years and they are without doubt excellent robust bits of kit. I have horses and you really don't want to be walking up to them in the field on dark nights looking like some sort of mega bright cyclops monster so the lower light output is great. But then when doing other jobs you need as much light as possible - this ticks both boxes. Also, the 'travel lock' function is great as it stops it from turning on in your pocket accidentally. My only slight criticisms are that I find myself accidentally turning it off while adjusting the light output. It has a single control knob that adjusts both the brilliance and push to turn on & off. For me, the turn on / off could do with a higher force to operate it. I find it a bit soft hence inadvertently turning it off when changing the output, especially if wearing gloves. My only other point is that the description of 2500 lumens is slightly misleading as this output is only available as a 10-second boost function. Most of the time the max O/P is 'only' 1000 lumens. However, trust me this is still plenty bright enough for most jobs!Apart from these two minor points I highly recommend it as a head torch!
The light intensity, beam focus, power controls, battery capacity, weight, recharging, water resistance, purchase price, colour temperature (not too warm), battery fuel gauge, and 7 year warranty are all terrific! Unfortunately (for me) the lamp does NOT tilt down anywhere near enough for close work, especially when not set to wide beam (I wear bifocals). My trusty old H14 headlamp simply clicks up and down through several notches as required and is great, but the H7R Core instead has a tight pivot and the light won't point down enough which is a real bummer. Having to reposition the headband way down at the front just above my glasses is so stupid. Maybe this headlamp is more for runners or the great outdoors? Having to reposition the headband way down at the front just above my glasses is so stupid. Maybe this headlamp is more for runners or the great outdoors? The first time I needed to use it while wearing earmuffs was also an unexpected fail, as the wire coil annoyingly fouls the LHS ear cup. The old H14 was no problem there either. To be fair, this new 'H7R Core' has a HEAPS better power supply than my old light which has run through countless sets of AA alkaline batteries over the years, and run flat without warning way too many times. For those lucky enough to not require earmuffs or the lamp to tilt down moderately low... everything else is tops. The battery can also be swapped out if needed which is a good thing, and the light quality is very pleasing.
Awesome light. Good price range. No need to pay more for functions you may never use. Easy operation, seriously takes 5 minutes to work out all functions. The dimmer is a breath of fresh air, no more cycling through 5 modes and it remembers last setting too. Battery life will be great for bush camping. Quality LED that is not too white like cheaper ones. If the light is too white it makes it hard to see detail, esp rainy night on dark ground. No nonsense light well worth the money.
After using cheapo headtorches for a while, it's been so good to finally get a quality one. Absolutely blown away at the difference in light production and quality. Very comfortable, easy to use, and I feel excellent value for money. Like the ability to modulate the power/output via rotating switch, rather than being stuck with set levels. No reason to doubt the distance claims in spot mode and flood gives a very wide and usable light output. Have found with cheaper LED headtorches that the light produced gives off a strange haze and makes it harder to see than you think it should, but not the case with this one.Only downside so far is the proprietary magnetic charger, which I can understand probably helps with waterproofing, but a USB-C would've been nice so you ... MoreAfter using cheapo headtorches for a while, it's been so good to finally get a quality one. Still not enough of a downside to drop a star.
Love it! You can melt the night away with this if you so choose. I love the ability to quickly switch between flood and spot easily, The red option is great if you want to be discreet or keep your night vision intact. I use mainly around the house at night to keep myself from pouring through disposable batteries like with my other headlamps but I love it so much I might be bringing this on future camping trips as well. The controls take a little getting used to with all the functionality but it all makes sense with a little practice and instruction review. Hold on to the instructions for reference. The top one produces the red light but its sister led on the bottom doesnt light up at all. I figured that it would produce red as well but doesnt and seems to only be there to make the headlamp look symetrical. I wish this lit up red as well but in the grand scheme of things is pretty minor and does not effect it enough to me to make it four stars but still wish it lit red along with the other one. Minor but the only improvement i could possibly think of.
