Recreate the architectural landmark, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum Measures over 4 (12cm) high, 7 (19cm) wide and 5 (14cm) deep Located on New York City's Fifth Avenue, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is a 20th-century architectural landmark. Often referred to simply as the Guggenheim, this building was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The building was commissioned in 1943, and Wright's masterpiece was opened to the public on October 21st 1959. It gained immediate recognition as an architectural landmark. This detailed LEGO model replicates the building's smoothed concrete facade with its distinctive curves and lines, and features its famous 'inverted-ziggurat rotunda and eight-story annex tower. The Guggenheim's iconic sign, recreated in a similar typeface, and a section of New York City's 5th Avenue Museum Mile with the city's signature yellow cabs complete the model. LEGO Architecture celebrates the world of architecture through the medium of the LEGO brick, and is developed for all with an interest in travel, architecture, history and design.

48 years after visiting the Guggenheim in New York City I built it in Lego and thoroughly enjoyed it. Unlike my last build of the Chicago skyline, I found it more difficult to find the correct parts as they wren't packaged up in a sequence to help you build but that is only a tiny gripe. The variety of brick types and the quality of the instruction booklet made this a real joy to build as well as a bit of a challenge. I see it's retiring soon. I hope it will be replaced by some other contemporary structure such as the Guggenheim in Bilbao.

Also, the back wall, although it seems pretty uniform a structure, is in fact a really complex and intriguing construction. The overall built of the model is quite challenging, especially the back wall, to get all the tiles spot-on straight. But that's good, right? Not everything has to be easy, not in life nor in LEGO. And that's why I really like both the Architecture and the Creator series. :)Happy building!

I've built several Architecture models, both big and small. This one is by far the best one! In fact it is my favorite model out of all the ones I've got whichever LEGO-series we're talking about. As a display piece - it ROCKS!Perfect size, weight & height. Love the colour scheme. Love the squared background building standing in such nice contrast to the muséums round shapes, the yellow taxis...If you can get your hands on it - buy it!

Big improvement
17 April 2017

I just got this set as a gift and was happy to unwrap it as the box photo looked great, a big improvement over the earlier kit. For my whole adult life I have been a fan of Frank Lloyd Wrigt and, much later in life, Lego. So much of the subtlety of FLW's designs seem difficult to interpret in Lego, but this kit does a very good job. It's fairly small in size but the way it captures the essence of the design is well thought out.The colours work well and the curves are achieved in a surprising way. The transitions between the arcs I thought at first were clunky but after building, they are less so, although they maybe could have benefited from white bricks behind where there are tiny fitting gaps to make the curves appear more seamless (instead of black bricks). To me there were a few odd instances of brick "engineering" that didn't seem very solid but they don't affect the overall build. One thing I don't like is the assembly of smaller base plates into a larger one. No matter what it will not sit perfectly flat--why can't Lego make one-piece bases for kits this size so that the corners don't curve upward slightly?Overall a very nice adult kit. I hope Lego can successfully translate more of FLW's buildings into kits like this one. If they do, I will most certainly buy them.

This is a superb Lego set.Building it was a bit of a challenge as there are so many small parts and unless totally concentrating, easy to make a mistake. The final result is very satisfying, a beautiful building. If I were to make any improvements, one would be the roof which in the model is a solid colour whereas the actual building has a transparent one. I imagine Lego opted for the solid colour to hide the interior. On the plus side, the museum name is on printed elements. It would have been a disappointment had they been on stickers. On mine the lettering is not parallel but that's a minor quibble. It is a bit too expensive but that seems to be the way for the Architecture series.

Museum Worthy

I was excited when I saw that The Guggenheim Museum was being released with a new LEGO Architecture set. I am a big Frank Lloyd Wright fan, and to say I was disappointed in the previous version of the Guggenheim, would be an understatement. It always seemed oddly proportioned. I realize that the designers are limited by brick shapes, and budget constraints, especially with a round building, but that set was a let down. The new set is amazing. Every element of the design is light years beyond the previous one. The build is challenging, and it is fun to see the details as they emerge. The yellow taxi's and the white grills which represent cross walks, all fit into the New York theme. When done, the design is cohesive and proportional. Though it is impossible to achieve the spiral ramp element of FLLW's architecture, the gradual step out of the curved floors suggests it in a modern way. This set is definitely in my top five fave within the Architecture series. It gets pride of place on my LEGO shelf. I call this set Museum Worthy, because it is a set worthy of the Museum it represents.

Bought this and the Capital Building at the same time and about 5h later both are done. Yes Im having a lot of fun but the sets are too quickly finished and I want another set to build... then what to do?The Guggenheim was fun and varied enough not to get tedious.Looks good but need some lights... somehow since there are few "windows". I might experiment with some LED but it would be great to have standardized LEDs built in by LEGO by default and up to the customer to just get a power source and hook one or many Architect sets to another if you put them all on a shelf.Would look much better with lights.I liked this semi large set more than I suspected, the sky line looks pretty but seems very easy to build (I say w/o trying one yet). Nice Decoration

I was so excited when I found this item. The set is absolutely beautiful to look at. I love that I can use this as a decoration piece in my apartment. It's classy and doesn't feel or look like a 'toy.' I also like that the instruction booklet comes with little facts about what I am building. I enjoyed reading it. I also had a lot of fun building this. I recommend the Lego Architecture series to all adults who want to experience the fun of Legos. I will definitely be buying more Lego Architecture pieces. I have previously bought the Arc De Triomphe architecture piece and had a lot of fun building that as well. I basically had to open all of the bags in the very beginning because you have to use all kinds of pieces from the very beginning. I think it would be nice if the bags were sorted a little different where the pieces you need early in the build are in one bag and the pieces you need later are in another bag. Also, the instructions are a little unclear in certain places. I didn't know exactly where to put some pieces. Other than that, no complaints.

Slightly Disappointed

That is a very neat set. Lots of different build techniques, and rare pieces. However, as a avid Architecture theme fan, I am slightly disappointed in the quality of this set. First off the booklet was not the typical cardstock bound booklet, it was thinner paper type. Second the build instructions even seemed different (A little more vague on certain steps) as well as print quality was lower, some places were slanted and cut off. Lastly, and most concerning, was the print of the building name on the pieces itself. The building name is actually up on the building were it is on the real building, as opposed to the typical location on the border piece on the base of the set. I like were the name is placed on this set, my problem is the portion of the name "Museum" is slanted, and part of the "M" is cut off. This is not the Lego quality I have grown to love and expect. I was halfway through the build when I noticed this, and do not plan to return, but I want to point out, that their quality control needs to be put in check, I would be highly disappointed to see more of this going forward. Lastly, and also quite aggravating, is the set was missing two pieces. I know this occasionally happens and I commend Lego for adding extra pieces in effort to prevent this as much as possible. Its rare I have a set with a missing piece, and I think this is the first time I have had 2 pieces missing, but I think this is just another example of lack of quality control on this set. Honestly, I almost thought this was a set that was intended to be sold in a different country. Anyways, all the issues a aside, this was a neat set, beautiful model, and I love the change in color theme. I think the Black,Charcoal, white, white hints of yellow make for a nice scheme. I do hope that any quality control is put into check however. If anyone from Lego reads this and wants further information on my actual set to identify manufacturing locations, please contact me I want to be as helpful as possible.

It looks sensational. Even if it was a bit repetitive, having to do the same thing several times! It's burned into my brain how to build that now it seems.I buy lego for the thrill of building, more than the joy of playing, and this item, for me is perfect!!So if you're after a set that, you can take your time with, and just get lost in building. Then this is for you!
